Karen & I have just returned from a ripper run in the GTO.
Left Melbourne on Friday, & travelled via Hamilton, Casterton, Apsley, Bordertown, Pinaroo, Loxton, to meet up with our friends from the HDT Owners Club S.A. for a great w/e at Berri (S.A. Riverland region).
Came back via Pinaroo, Edenhope, & spent Monday in Wycheproof (great Motel & good pub meal!) before coming home via St Arnaud, Maryborough, Goldfields etc to Melb.
Had some pretty average weather, but as we went via the back roads, & took the long way both ways, we enjoyed some great driving--with very little traffic--& it all went to show what a great vehicle the VZ GTO is.
Cheers, Pickles.
And by the way, for any of you who have an interest in firearms, we called in at the Wells Fargo Gunshop in Maryborough. What a GREAT shop--asked the owner if he could show me some handguns (pistols)--No problem he said, but you'd better tell me what type, because we've got over 900 (NINE HUNDRED) in stock!!( Plus thousands of other weapons-shotguns, rifles, air rifles, crossbows, scopes etc etc) Handled a few, including a lovely long barrelled .357 Magnum, several semi automatics, & also the latest Glock (have I spelt it right?) that is soon to be issued to the Vic Police. An AWESOME shop--if you're at all interested in firearms, you must go there!

Sounds like it was a great trip Pickles - I'm thinking of an Adelaide via Warrnambool, via Gt Ocean Rd roadtrip for later in the year.

..................... also the latest Glock (have I spelt it right?) that is soon to be issued to the Vic Police...............

Re this comment - I wasn't aware that the choice was yet confirmed, however, would be pleased if it were accurate, as the Glock is superior to the other touted brands. Does this bloke have 'inside' knowledge, or is this your information coup?

Cheers,

Macca

Cheers,

MaccaNo, No information "coup"!!-- I was simply told, whilst handling the weapon, that, "it will happen".
I reckon it will too, & also, that it would have happened a long time ago, if it hadn't been for that "Miss Piggy lookalike" Commissioner!
But hey, why wouldn't it happen?--Are our Police to be properly equipped, or not?
Cheers, Pickles.

Nice write-up Pickles, sounds like it was a nice trip.

It's been ages since I've done a long road-trip in any car let alone my GTO. Damn I'm looking forward to getting it back. :)

Nothing beats a nice long trip in a big comfy v8 :)

Hope you stretched its legs a little!

VX 3.8. Average fuel for the trip was 11.1 L/100K, over 2000ks.
Tommy VTss-Can't see anything wrong with Hamilton!!- Actually there's some great cruising country round there. We've found a great little cafe at Penshurst that opens at 6.30am, where we usually grab a bit of "brekky", on the way through from melbourne(they make lovely egg, bacon & cheese toasted sandwiches-which are always welcome after an eary start), but we were a bit early this time, so did'nt call.
We've seen the Ansett Museum on prior visits, & found that pretty interesting too.
Just gettng into the digital age, so not sure about pics, so we'll see how we go!
Cheers, Pickles.

Fair enough mate, the actual go-ahead was given by the Chief last week - with a 3-month timeframe, yet they have not (according to my understanding) indicated which particular pistol will get the nod. Hence, my query at your statement,
'also the latest Glock (have I spelt it right?) that is soon to be issued to the Vic Police'

Thus, I was questioning whether you or the gunsmith knew something that 99.9% of police members and the public did not. No disrespect was intended through my posing of the question.

Cheers,

Macca

Hit a lot of my country there mate.

Ballarat, but grew up in SW Vic near Hamilton, and nearly married an ex-pat Casterton girl. Family are all from South Aus so I have driven all through there. so far my Monaro is the nicest car I have used all through that country. some good stretches and the scenery changes, especially Casterton to SA, and then again at the wimmera. As you get toward the goldfields the bush changes again!

Absolutely right! We try to stay off the main roads & stick with the B & C roads, which usually have a good surface. This time, to get to Berri from Melb, we went via Casterton, then up to Apsley-Bordertown-Pinaroo-Loxton etc.
Coming back from Berri, we went down to Pinaroo, then along the Mallee Highway to walpeup, down to Hopeton, then across to Wycheproof.
Hardly saw a car!! We enjoyed some great driving & top scenery. There's a lot to be said for "back roads"!
And you're right about the Goldfields--there is a definite change in scenery-it's great country-all one needs to do is find a little country pub, a good steak & a local red---what could beat that?
Cheers, Pickles.
