Hi all
Wondering if anyone else has noticed the extremely cheap tyres being advertised on Ebay.. Ive been looking at the ads for 18 inch tyres which are being sold from a place in Ingleburn, Sydney, offering packages for as little as $395! Yep thats right $395 for a set of 4 tyres. Do a quick search if you don't believe it
Has anyone heard of or even used the following brands advertised:
"Traxxion"
"Clear"
"Roadstone N7000"
"Neuton N5000"
"Accelera"
I find it hard to believe that these tyres are of decent quality if the product can sell so cheap. Having said that the listed ratings appear ok?

It almost sounds as thoe ur the one selling them, sure ur not giving us a sales pitch???
Call me cynical but "cheap" and "tyres" should never be in the same sentence. Certainly not more than once!
Tyres are one of the most important parts of the car when it comes to safety. I'd steer clear...

In the last WHEELS magazine they tested an "Accelera" tyre (I've never heard of them either) and they performed very well.

ive heard of clear, there cheap but decent,
Cheap doesnt always mean their shit, i get my nexens off ebay @$115 each, compared to $180 locally, and only costs about 10 each to fit, so its (CHEAP), but there great tyres and my mum has had hers for about 25thu and still another 20 in them i reakon (vz ss 18"),
ill be lucky to get 20 out of mine as im a little harder, but they compare to nankang ns2's, and shit all over falkens, that i have had experience with

For what it is worth, the Accelera Alpha did quite well in the
2008 wheels tyre test.

had clears on the rear for a month or so when i was a little short on $$$, cant believe how bad they are in the wet, in the dry they were ok....
Unbelievable - I can't understand people compromising on tyres! It just doesn't make sense.
I wouldn't risk my life (and the lives of others) by driving around on cheap shit!

Hold your breathe, it won't take long. I bet someone says how good there Maxxis tyres are soon.
Cheap tyres serve a purpose, but that is mainly for those of you who destroy them monthly. Otherwise spend some decent money and you will be surprised with the difference.
Don't even start on the retread or remould debate.

Exactly what I said in another thread, can't understand these guys that go for cheap tyres. They will spend huge $$ on Engine mods, exhausts, suspension, stereos etc and then turn around and spend as little as possible on tyres. Doesn't make sense to me:confused:

Hi Guys
I am new here and would like some advice on Kumho Ecsta KU-31 tyres. I am driving VE SSV with 245/40/19 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A (these are OEM) - I have a family member who imports the Kumho's and he has told me that they are awesome tyres to drive on. I have read reviews on net and most of them are very positive.
I was wondering has anyone here ever had them installed on their car, if so, how did they perform? my other option is the Falken FK-452
Advice?

You should never compromise vehicle safety. Buying cheap tyres may well be a compromise. Although I could be wrong, my wife often thinks that I am !! Remember it's your life, your family and anyone else unfortunate to be in the wrong place at the wrong time if it all goes 'pear shaped'.

i use nankang most of the time, they are cheap, and hold up pretty good with the abuse. i know there cheap, and smell like used condoms when you do a skid but i find they hold the road good enough, im not goin to spend top dollar on tyres that are goin to end up as black lines on the... track.
if i was qualifying for bathurst i would buy top dollar tyres!
worst tyres iv ever had are marshals, on in the dry, but if it looked like it was goin to rain they would turn to sh!t!
about khumos, i had a set of them, they lasted for ages! they never seemed to wear out!

So are you going to fork out $900 a corner when you need to replace the tyres on the VE? Thats only 4x900 or $2700 for a set of tyres - how long do they last you mate?
I had the best of both worlds last pair i bought off ebay were definately CHEAP TYRES but they were Bridgestone S03's and i paid just over $650 for the 4! I have had NS2's before and rate them for the money they are a good tyre. Dunno about the other brands.

Well they make good mountain bike tyres.

Simple rule of thumb ... if you have to ask "Who's ever heard of XXXXX brand tyre" ... look elsewhere.
I had the clear brand tyres on my SS. The grip level they provided was similar to that of a dog on a polished timber floor ... WET OR DRY !!! :flipoff:
If you want to go with cheaper tyres stick to known brand tyres like Nankang, Kuhmo etc .. in my experience having tried Maxxis tyres and the like on other cars is ... you get what you pay for.
I also don't think paying through the arse for "good" tyres is overly smart either. I think some people just get off on the psychological belief and being able to say "I've got pirelli or whatever other brand tyres".
Cheap (ish) doesn't have to = nasty if you shop smartly.

I think $900 a corner is a bit over the top, good well know brands can be had for less than that. Bottom line is whats more important, performance & piece of mind or the extra few $$ in the pocket. I know what I'd rather be on on a wet rainy day.

I used to pay top $$$ to put Pirelli P-Zero Asimetrico's on my 350Z.. Never regretted it once, those f**kers stuck to the road like glue in the wet... They where amazing performers in the wet weather.... Im about to change the stock rubber on my SS, and am still undecided what to get, although 4 x RE050 (?) for just over $1k on eBay is an awesome price...

Had them on the VE Calais and have them on the rears on the Clubby. Soon to be all four. IMHO way better than the $700 Bridgestone OEM tyres. Two rears for the Clubby were $700 balanced and fitted. And they're the 275's on the back! The front 245's are cheaper still.
So are you going to fork out $900 a corner when you need to replace the tyres on the VE? Thats only 4x900 or $2700 for a set of tyres - how long do they last you mate?
See above. I prefer Kumhos to the OEM Bridgestones and they happen to be a LOT cheaper. Less than $1400 for all four corners fitted and balanced. Not that it matters as cost is not a priority when it comes to tyres. I want a balance between safety and performance. Don't know how long they last yet because I didn't have the Calais long enough and I replace all four whenever I get a flat. The set I have on there now have been on for about 5,000km. I'd reckon around 30,000km should see me getting another set. I don't like leaving it until they're on the tread depth indicators.

This debate is tyring. Basically if you dont pay more than 500 a tyre or buy a well kown brand then you are risking the lives of everyone out there..simple isnt it? BTW Maxis are good tyres IMO

Yeah how silly can we be, its actually 4 x 900 = $3.50 ... damn you lochness monster.
i quite like the hankook ventus tyres, the 104's i think they are, when i had them on my old car they stuck like the brown matter to a blanket and they were a good price.
just my opinion

Mate, as long as you don't drive on it when its flat a puncture is repairable and alot cheaper than a new set of tyres

Cost isn't really a concern to me though...
