OMG TAKE A LOOK!!!!!!!

* CTS-V, with its supercharged 6.2-litre LSA engine, has achieved SAE-certified peak output of 556 horsepower (415 kW) at 6100 rpm and 551 lb.-ft. (747 Nm) of torque at 3800 rpm.

* CTS-V accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds. CTS-V covers the quarter-mile in 12 seconds at 118 mph. These acceleration times are believed to be the fastest for any V-8-powered sedan currently in production.

I have two thoughts on this.

1. Cadillac has no place in Australia. All these cars are are smaller, more expensive GM cars with the same drivelines as we get (or will get) in the Commodore. That said, we NEED this engine.

2. Cadillac can not import this model as they (GM America) don't think ahead as much as Holden/HSV and this particular model can't be converted to RHD.

I agree on the Caddy in Australia. It is a waste of money and time bringing it out here and just another example of why the US car industry is going broke. They would be much better off improving the Commodore range with the money than trying to take a brand name with such an average reputation and try to convince us that it really is a BMW competitor.

As for the engine, as appealing as it is, I wonder how much demand there is for an engine like this in Australia given Holden is not selling to the same market as AMG Mercs. To justify the cost of engineering it, they would have to sell more than the 7 litre HSV.

Aside from the engine, its very ugly and does anyone else see a little bit of the VE GTS rims in those wheels?

It won't be coming here because (like the last CTS-V with LS6 and then LS2) it can't be made RHD with a V8. Lutz is talking up a twin-turbo HFV6 version for our market instead.

The yanks keep saying 'all future GM models will be RHD' but so far the runs aren't on the board.

You will see the CSA motor in a future HSV - they apparently have versions with the LS7 which was most ready hence W427, but also with the CSA (which is the production supercharged 6.2) and the LS9 which is designated for the next Corvette and designed to outmuscle Porsche and co. That might not make it, because it is a very expensive motor (titanium rods, higher-capacity blower, hand assembly).

My fear with the CTS in Australia is that Holden, with Calais sales and Caprice/Statesman and going up through HSV, is already the biggest in that $50,000-80,000 segment, probably 10-15K sales per annum. Whereas BMW and Merc and Audi probably sell a couple thousand V8s each a year whcih Cadillac is supposedly taking on. So Holden will lose out more than anyone if Cadillac achieves 5-10K a year. And as Caddy is GM's darling and they can't afford to lose face in our market, they'll hobble the Calais and other models in future to avoid being shown up by the locals. Maybe even tell Holden to stop making them.

Their plan is to sell Cadillac through GM premium dealers who also sell Saab, Hummer (which might be dead or sold shortly) and the Camaro. Which means a couple of dozen dealers throughout Oz, and hardly any outside capitals. Can you see a 5- or 7- series Merc or 750 BM buyer traipsing into a Holden/HSV dealer with all the hoi-polloi for sales and service? I don't think so.

And because a Holden buyer won't necessarily = Cadillac buyer, Holden might just lose that market segment, which is lucrative and probably funds the bigcar development. Then GM can say, 'well Holden is losing sales - might as well close them and import Chev Impalas or Malibus'.

Don't think the clowns don't think like that. they've never known what to do with Holden. It's almost an accident Holden has lasted this long.

And it will use the 6L90E A6 Transmission, the upgraded heavy duty/performance version of the 6L80E currently seen in the VE Commodore (etc). The 6L90 is currently seen in GM trucks that haul up to 4-5 tonnes. Strong box.

The 6L90E shares 75% of the parts with the 6L80E, has the same case profile and is a mere ~35mm longer than the 6L80.
