i bought myself a VT V6 auto wagon tail shaft... $100
took it to my local tail shaft place and had 40mm cut out of the front half and re-phased and re-ballanced... $150

problem solved :) and - having uni's at both end's eliminates the chance of those donuts failing which are pretty expensive too... so far (30 passes and 2000kms) and the little V6 shaft hasn't given a hint of trouble

this seems much easier than trying to bodge up the VY donut set up onto the VT flat flange...

you see the VT pinion is different and doesn't have the spiggot pin to locate the tail shaft, so even if you changed to a VY flange on the pinion with the 3 finger donut setup its not going to be neally as reliable without that spiggot pin...
i'll dig around for some pictures and show you what i did...

BUT - if you can find a VT V8 Auto tail shaft you might find it'll be a straight bolt in...

ok so far this is the only decent picture i have... its shitty...
but i'll be pulling the tail shaft out in a week or two so i'll be sure to take some more pictures...

here is one of the stock VY Ute tail shaft next to the stock VT V6 wagon shaft. flange type rear mounting... uni's at back, and uni at box end...

also, here is the shot of VT diff mated to VT wagon shaft... with a VT donut/uni shaft from a sedan... too short in both halves and couldn't be used... wagon is same length as ute, so try to source one of those shafts if you can...
