Great idea I reckon. It's a good way to dress up the aging VX. I've put a genuine VY Senator front end on my VX Calais. Just need to put on the VY bonnet which hopefully i'll get around to today.

The only issues I had was that you need to use the VY/VZ front bumper reo bar instead of your current VX one. If you use the VX one, you won't be able to fit the VZ front bumper on properly and you'll have alignment issues. Also, you may have to re-drill the chasis mounts for the reo bar 20mm lower or the bumper won't fit. The VY Senator front wouldn't fit on my VX until we modified the mounts. Not sure if you'll have this issue.

For the fluted guards, you may need to use the new VZ side indicator wiring looms/harnesses. There was a running change in VZ models which swapped this wiring to Opel looms. They are a short harness (you can buy them separately) and are about $55 each from Holden (see part number thread - thank Dickie for the hard work of determining what changed). It's a pain in the arse finding them second hand as most VZs used the older VY, VX, VT side indicator wiring.

VZ front guards will fit your VX with some minor modification. Get a hammer and curl the corners of the VX front guard reos which will allow the VZ guards to fit on. Try putting the new guards on and you'll see what part of the reos you'll need to bash.

The VX rears are pretty curvey so it may not suit the sharp VZ front. To combat this issue, I put on a HSV VX rear which sharpens it up quite nicely.

Chad (Cobalt) on these forums very kindly helped me with the conversion so if you get stuck, he's a great source of knowledge. Good luck.

i did that to my hite vu. looks just like a vz no, used the skirts and rear bumpers also. dunno about a vx though, because the rear is rounder and not easy to change. if you are gonna do it, make sure you get vz inner guards and a vz bumper rio.

Nothing against a VZ, but Why??

Its a VX, always will be a VX, so leave it as a VX.
Same with any model.

Just my opinion.

cheers guys,

i know what u mean vxss346, about it always goin to be a vx. i bought a clubby kit for it but i dont wanna be like every one else and turn it into something it is not. So thats how i came up with the idea of the vz front, its still goin to be a ss, if u catch my drift.

i have seen a vy and with fluted guards, and that looked dam good.

I reckon it's the worst idea ever. The VX SS front is the meanest, best looking front end of anything in the VT-VX range IMHO (in fact the VX SS overall is the best looking of the whole series, if not the best looking Commodore full stop). The problem with the VY and VZ is that they tried to graft angular front and rear ends onto a curvy centre section, which gives you a car that looks great when you're just looking at the front or rear but a bit mismatched when taken overall - so why do this deliberately?

I don't think it would match up at all, or suit for that matter. The VZ has sharper lines, the VX has soft, rounded lines front and rear, including the interior. A VX Clubsport bar would fit nicer.

There is a green vt with a vz front on it in wollongong it just doesnt look right, sharp angled front with a rounded rear it just doesnt match if it was a ute you couldnt tell, but its your car

if you wanna look at cars that have done summin like this before Dan(delco) from chipmaster performance has put vy ss front on his cv8 monaro (which is similar to vx ss shape IMO - round), round at the back sharp at the front.. not my cup of tea but you should be able to find pics some were on this site if not there website if thats what your after

...i bought a clubby kit for it but i dont wanna be like every one else and turn it into something it is not...

Good idea mate, nothing worse than a sheep in wolf's clothing, it'll never be a HSV.

Some food for thought though, how about a monaro front, or even a GTO front, a few members on here have done it and it looks the goods.

As Luke said, the VX has softer, rounder lines as opposed to the VY/Z range which are much more sharp and defined, which is why I reckon a monaro or GTO front would suit the cars shape better.

Just my 2c, it's your car mate, whatever makes you happy.

Cheers

If you want to change it but dont want to turn it into the ugly cousin that no one talks about why dont you get some fluted guards that fit the VT/VX (you can get them from a couple of places, or just get the flutes & cut them into your existing guards) & then chuck on a Monaro bonnet. This would look much better than a car with a sharp anglular front that turns into soft flowing lines half way down the side with a round bum to finish it off. It is like cars just putting a HSV front bar on without the sideskirts or rear bar to match, they just dont seem to look right if you know what I mean.

But at the end of the day it is your ride & do what you like the look of. Good luck with it all.

Cheers Bud

Thanks fellas,

All really good points, i think ill leave it.

What do u guys reckon about painting the grill the same colour as the rest of the car, eg, mine is white so instead of the black grilll, paint it white?

Painted grill would look good, Ive seen that done on a VX SS and it looked pretty good (was white like yours too)

The Monaro or GTO front is also a good idea i think. would be much easier, and i think it would suit better. Actually come to think of it, Ive only seen the early monaro bumpers put on commodores, Never seen the later series IV Monaro fronts, with the dual driving lamps on each side (though im sure someones done it), that would look pretty damn nice on a White VX.

I dont think the VZ SS thing is worth the hassle really. instead of looking like a plain VX SS, it'll look like a dodgey VZ SS. in a year or two you'll be able to buy a VZ SS for the money it'll cost you to change all the guards, buy the headlights, grill and repaint (well, almost...)

Check out this thread Australian LS1 and Holden Forums (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=86053) for a look at a VZ Monaro front on a VU/VX shape mate.

I got a VZ Monaro front on my VX and I think it's about the only one that will directly fit on a VX from the later models.. I think the sides are different on other models.

hey i see my ute.........

I'll throw some more pics up when the bumper has been painted. IMO and I see its shared by others the VX was the best shape of the series and angles with the curves dont mix. The roofline was never suited to the VY-VZ although thats just my opinion.

I've seen Alisters rig along Beams road and it does look pretty good. Still need to drop into your work mate and say g'day.

Hah champion, nice spotting. Would've been on my way home from work. Flash your lights at me like crazy so I notice you next time.
Still at Virginia all day Saturday and Sunday.

I've got the VY bonnet on now so it looks even better I reckon. I just need that HSV VY bonnet front attachment thing though.

I put a VZ R8 front on a black monaro for a customer a couple of months ago. at first wasnt to sure how it would look but the finished product looked pretty good, but it did make the nose of the car look a little longer. a big set of rims seemed to balance it out. the job itself was simple. the owner supplied a fibreglass Vy bonnet with a Xr8 hump grafted into the middle. dont agree with ford designs on a holden but in the end looked different and pretty tuff.:headbang:
