I have a VZ SS and want to put a cam in it, but am being told by some mates that i shouldnt because it will never pass an emmisions test.
Is this true?
Is there a cam that will pass?

Even a stock car wont pass with an exhaust...
Its a risk you take when you modify your car.
Dont go overly large, wide LSA thing etc etc Turn your car off as soon as you get pulled over and hope for the best.

A 244/244 @108 with more than 600 lift will pass with ease.

i hate to disappoint :D
On a side note though, if there were a cam that would pass, i'm guessing it would be rather small, in which case the power gain : dollars spent ratio would be a little out.
If ya wanna remain emissions compliant, probably better looking at a blower kit.
Just my opinion though.

A C4B GTS cam?
Whilst apparently HSV had troubles getting it to pass emissions, it shows it can be done. I had a GTS cam in a decompressed LS2 and it made 287 rwkw. The GTS cam (or similar) is a great upgrade for a street cam where you want increased torque everywhere, and of course gives fantastic drivability.

its already got a blower kit on it........thats why im looking for a little more punch with a cam set up...........its currently throwing out 408rwkw with the standard cam.

To be frank, if it is putting 400+rwkW to the pavement, why would you want to change it???
To answer the question though, you'd probably need sub-220 duration and at least 115-117lsa and the cam would be the last of your emissions concerns anyway - with a blower fitted to the car.

Macca

220 220 112 should be fine with good ceramic cats tuned properly at all loads.

the reason i want to change is the same as most others........the more power the better!!!! as for the emissions with the blower, it passed no worries when i had it engineered.
