wanting to pump around 40-45psi into it on full noise with some gas as well

It would be VERY impressive to make a legitimate 1500rwhp from a RB26/30
Nice VL.

When we were running these RB series engines at 880 - 900rwhp a couple of years back they had a notorsiously short lifespan, at least in drag racing terms (around 6 - 10 full power passes between engine rebuilds). No doubt they can stuff enough air and nitrous in....but around 10hp per cubic inch is a massive ask
Even with 'only' 800rwhp this VL would be a ripper :)

Yeh few mates with 700-900rwhp GTRs here and they only last a few high HP runs on the dyno and track time and onto another motor..
Chris and his I WIN r33 gtr has just brought a OS GIKEN(spelling) stroker block for $80k or something?? would that sound right?

We have pretty much always run these OS-Giken 3 litre race engines (in fact the fastest OS-Giken 3 litre car in the world sits in our shop 8.7 @ 163 with a stick shift). If you get 10 runs at over 30psi boost and 9500rpm its a miracle......

Normally you get this instead. The trick is in knowing when to freshen the engine before catastrophic failure occurs :)
Wish them luck with the 1500rwhp from me

Exactly. It needs over 1500Nm of crankshaft torque to get even close. My money is on the T51 being a power restriction even with the funny gas.

Funny thing is its not a T51R, a T51R turbo can literally sit inside that front housing of that turbo.... Id like to find out the exact specs of that turbo thou.
Easily going to see that VL on almost every magazine front cover..

Based on what I can see, it looks like someone is finally using a GT55 (http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/catelog/Turbochargers/GT55/GT5533R_769115_1.html) with a bell mouth, based on the compressor cover and surge slots. Even so, it needs 50+psi to get to 1500Hp@crank and a big shot of gas to make it the rest of the way.
I'm with Martin on this, it sounds good but the reality is that engine is living on borrowed time with those power goals.

F1 in the turbo era used to get 1500hp from 1.5 litre motors in qualifying. So id say 1500hp is do able in that car but like others have said only for a couple of dyno runs and passes before it tears itself apart.

F1 engines that rev'ed to 19,000+rpm with massive amounts of boost and running race fuels for around 1500Hp@engine that lasted around 120 seconds of abuse?

These motors will happily run 600rwhp on a 30 bottom end all day but need 25+psi to push this. At the weekend at powercruise we had a R33 up here with RB30/26 head running 25psi and pushed 690rwhp through an auto 5k convertor, BUT in making this horsepower he has done an oil pump, bearings and a new crank shaft twice in six months. In my experience any more than this they are a time bomb.As donnin said 5 passes and drop the sump.
Good luck with it all.

Blown out the piston.
Blown out the piston.
Or maybe threw a rod and it's bits of head fragment flying out.
Either way must of hurt.

Also youve seen this car in person to vouche for the quality and know exactly what parts were used in the build???
Ive built a vl calais turbo before mate, they cost **** all!
Things for them are cheap!

When they ran 1500hp, the fuel was so hectic that you could not even go near it with exposed skin. And they really had around 900hp when they raced from memory the 1500hp was 'pushing the limits'.

Building something on the pointy edge of car modification is inversely proportional to the dollars spent of a $35,000 toy. If you could put it on a scale of greatness 0 - 100. 0 being poo and 100 being perfect, to get to 70% greatness would cost $70,000, to make it that last 30% to the majic 100 would cost 10 times the amount of the precious 70%. The cost increase markedly for custom one off bits etc etc. You would be amazed at what it costs to build some of the show cars that get around.

ahh no i wouldnt, and with 35k my engine bay was completely smoothed out...everything was chrome or polished stainless steel, RAJAB racing inlet manifold, High mount Garrett 700HP roller bearing turbo, external gate...theres so much shit on the market its cheap to build these things...
ive got mates with clean as ****, 10 second vls (every vl turbo runs 10's these days), another with a 9 second show capable monster in the build..
200k plus...ok

what about tubs, cage etc etc. as duke said, to get to the pointy end costs alot more than building a budget 10sec VL. to get a VL to run 9's i dont think your gonna get much change from 50K even if you dont touch the interior or the exterior.
anyways, that aside. it was my favorite car at autosalon and my favorite VL ever. i cant fault one thing on it in my opinion.

Yeah ok sure.... Sounds like a 12yr old ###########/StreetCommodores Argument. Yes you can no cant. It will go round in circles for months. Im sorry but here in the real world making your car fast reliably costs money. Making cars look good and fast cost lots and lots of money. If you pay someone else to do the work for you it cost lots and lots and lots of money. :teach: Was that easy enough for you to understand.

here is a run down just on the brakes,
Front brakes are 6 piston wilwoods with 390mm 2 piece rotors with custom hats and modified vt hubs
Rear brakes are 4 piston wilwoods with 330mm 2 piece rotors with custom hats to suit full floating rear end.
no brake booster or master cylinder in engine bay, all under dash wilwood tandem master cylinder assembly and wilwood pedal box, full stainless lines and rear biast switch.
wilwood hand brake calipers on the rear also.
this must be $10K easy.
and i believe the owner of itswar done all the work himself.

is not a cheap exercise let alone doing it to full show quality. The dollars add
up pretty quick when you only use the best gear.IMO it is an awsome vl and

As others have said
Tubs, cage, Dry Sump, Wilwood brakes,Jun cams,Half grout filled block,2 speed glide, fuel setup, every panel is new, interior, motor setup (believe was $60-70k RB26 head with the absolute best of everything the Japanese speed shops can offer. It has 306 degree JUN cams, and everything else has been made from unobtanium, and the thing revs to 11,000rpm), 19x14in Simmons would cost AT LEAST $15k+ to get them custom made as they only make 19x12in in there factory, so to extend it another 2in id say A LOT of dollars not to mention the rear tyres are from Lamborghini as they couldnt find any others to suit/fit.....
The photos don't show you the smoothed off strut tops, flat firewall or chubby style boxed engine bay behind the head lights..
Full floating rear end, 2000hp thumper and billet crank.
Quite easily u can see its $200k+ to build a car thats hunting for 8-9sec passes with full show quality..

G'day ladies and gents,
my name is Steve and im the owner of the black calais ITSWAR,
Just a few things i want to say, thank you to all the people that have supported the car your kind words are greatly appreciated, and to the people that the car doesnt quite do it for them or dislike the car thank you for your comments its a free world and everybody is entitled to an opinion.
It took me 6 years to get this car to where is today, a great amount of sacrafice, dedication and hard times but its finally done, this car was built for one reason my passion for my car, not to impress anybody or to show off because its not my thing. I took the car to autosalon for one reason really, its been in the build for so long that i just wanted to get it out there instead of posting pictures up to show everyone, people could see it in the flesh and make there own decision about the car. Ive noticed in this thread that figures of how much ive spent have been thrown around and to honest it doesnt really matter how much i have spent on it, people that have built cars ground up (full credit to all the beautiful cars out there) know how much money can be involved in big projects, all the mistakes, redoing stuff and all the expensive things along the way.
I built this car the way i wanted it and im happy with the way it turned out. At the end of the day i built my car for me nobody else so i have no one else to impress. Like i said earlier people are entitled to there opinon but if you want FACTS about the car please dont hesitate to contact me.
Just so you know the car was built to be driven and raced, after these next few shows thats what you will see.
Thanks,
Steve
im good mates wuth chubby (who won top street overall at nats 21) and he's taken a good look at it and confident it will clean up at every show it attends
