Hi all just after some opinion on which transmission to use as i want to replace the 6 speed manual in my VN.
The car is full weight and electrics VN, 9 inch , mini tubbed and LS1.
The engine has currently made a best of 327 RWKW's.
As i want to do some drag racing i will either chese to run a Powerglide or if i go the three speed option i will run a trimatic.
Any opinions ?
Also the gearbox and modified clutch will be for sale
T56 Tremec 6 speed out of a HSV GTS coupe, very low kays Excellent condition if anyone is interested.

you will just smash a traumatic. if going a 3 speed, defiantly go for a T400, much stronger box all round.

I ran a beefed up t400 in my vette behind a 468 big block making 450 rwkw no problems, I ran a 4000 stally an slicks when at the strip. I think you need 3 gears with the weight/power combo your got.

Cant see why a T700 couldnt handle 330rwkw. My T700 is built to 600hp. I am running about 280rwkw with no issues at all.
The T700 will use up a lot less power than a T400 as well.
Sure if your looking at more than 400rwkw than yeah go the T400.
Theres heaps of turbo/supercharged/n/a gen3s running 450rwkw through a 4L60E which is the same strength wise as a T700. Plus a vn being a heap lighter, the gearbox would find it easier again.
Email sent.

Thanks for all the input guys. The only reason i suggestes a trimatic as a three speed is the power loss would be less than the turbo boxes and as a i run a full manual trimatic in my HQ Monaro that runs 11.00 , if built right i thought would be up to the job.
What would be a fair price to ask for a complete HSV T56 Tremec conversion including 6 speed gearbox clutch , shifter, pedal box, crossmember and tailshaft if needed?

as you say with the Trimatics....had plenty run in the 10's in the old days. Just need the right parts and attention.
T56 VS etc....ask what you like. I would reckon $6k for the whole conversion. You have a lot of parts there that aren't available anymore.

Yeah true could ask what i like, wouldnt expect $6k tho, i was thinking of advertising around the $3-$4k mark fore the whole lot.
