Hi all,

An offer has come up that is becoming increasingly harder to refuse.

Just wondering if anyone here owns or has driven one of these cabrolets.

Pro's/Con's?
Do you think a convertable '03 could sell for near on $40k during summer?
On carsales they are around the 40k mark now with around 80kms.
Any common faults/issues?

Any info appreciated.

Thanks.

Personally I prefer the Coupe as the roadster to me doesn't have the same visual appeal. Even with the soft top up it looks more like a MX-5 than a 350Z...
As far as I know there aren't any major issues...
If I come across any major issues while I'm hunting for my own... I'll let you know...

In the US early models were scrubbing tyres and got revised suspension/settings - that might have been only there.

See if you can drive it for a week to see if you like - pretty hardcore cars by all reports, not necessarily comfortable or easy to drive but supposedly rewarding on the right day and the right road.

I'm with The Guardian - in soft top form I think they look very ordinary whereas the coupe looks smart. All I know about them is from the Mags and they always seem to get a good review.:)

I prefer the look of the coupes vs convert with roof up..

great handling cars with a chassis that begs for more power -

MY03 Issues:

tyre feathering issues fixed with a decent (read: non-nissan) alignment..
rear window washer nozzle leaked under hard acceleration etc..
click diff
leccy window motors burning out or not dropping correctly when openin the door..

apart from that not too many issues with the '03 model.. get a JWT Popcharger intake and hi-tech exhaust to make it growl and sound exotic like a lambo..
only power mods worth doing are a TT kit really.. everything else only adds < 5-10rwkw in total

Having just bought a coupe and gone through the decission making process between the coupe and roadster here is my 22c (inc GST) worth.

The early roadsters are all "touring" not "track" models which means they have the basic brakes, basic suspension and no VDC.
The early ones also have the DE engine not the HR so they are a bit down on performance.
The roadster also weighs 100kg more than the coupe.

Reasons why I did not buy one:

1) Ragtops are lots of fun until it rains, birds poo on you, you drive in a dust cloud, get sunburnt and die of skin cancer.
2) They are noisy with the top up.
3) You cannot have anything loose on the seats or floor as it will escape.
4) There is almost enough room in the boot for a slab of beer but your mates will have to carry the coolers for you. It is too small for a suitcase.
5) They are bloody hot driving in the city/traffic as the aircon has no hope and you will frizzle and sweat (see skin cancer comment)

350Zs do, however, have ridiculously good resale value retention which is the main reason I bought mine which was to be a stop gap until the GTR or GTHO arrive or I can afford something really silly with a horse or bull on it.

www.350z-tech.com has all the answers you seek.

Geez... thats good to know...
Had no idea the air conditioners weren't good?
is that just the Roadster or in both models?

No the aircon is great with the top up but with it down you are trying to aircondition the whole of Australia and it is a bit much for it :)

Ah yes hot chicks that are the wives or girlfriends of 350z owners. Yeh I have seen them too.
I suppose it makes nice change from all the pimply faced doof doof with a backward cap that is driving my old F6 now.
Did you buy your F6 grossly discounted during the runout or was it an ex highway patrol car from a government auction?

:stick: :stick:

hahahah your not getting a bit upset are you? You have owned it for a couple of months. Should be an expert by now. Or is it not run in yet?

Or maybe you might want to do over 100,000km in it. Possibly drive across NT at between 200 and 252km/h. How about play with Craig Lowndes on a track day at lakeside raceway. Mix it up with Porsche club nutcases, Elfins and M series BMWs on several other track days.

Do all that and then tell me what a F6 can and can't do because right now you are just guessing.......

Track Coupe FTW !! i was so glad i spent the extra coin and got the track.. the brembos are worth it alone, but the combo of 18's/rear lip spoiler/front spoiler really make it look a whole lot better... plus VDC and underbody diffusers doesnt hurt either!

haha no need for to me race all over the country to do that. I just listen to all the experts that TELL me how good it the F6 already is.

BTW - previous comment about the F6 toasting the old fart 350Z's was not quite correct. Old fart owners pacemakers would also have to be re -tuned to suit driving environment.

I personally think if the 2 platforms were equal then the 350Z would Shamozel all over the F6... I bet it'd corner better too... The 350Z (which in 2010 is soon to be a 370Z) is N/A 3.5... if its had even 1 turbo i'm sure it'd give you a bit of a run for your money around a track...

anyways... the Track version 350Z is a pure winner, its styling and in the VQ35HR having twin throttle bodies and intake, makes all the difference in response... I know all about responsiveness on twin throttle bodies...

I looked back over your 5 year history on here in it is OBVIOUS that although you like to talk the talk you cannot walk the walk.

If the best you can do is make childish remarks about age, something that you have kept hidden about yourself, then you have nothing to contribute here either.

So take your big green hammer and get back under you bridge, there are billygoats coming.......

haha now you’re the one getting a bit upset I think? Maybe you need to turn your pacemaker down a bit?

Isn’t the forum ALL about talking the talk?

Bring on the billygoats, fluffy toys or whatever……………….. :bawl:

SSASSC1, every time I have seen your forum name since being on
here it has caught my attention and I have wondered what it means,
but I think I just worked it out, is it meant to say SASSY1?
Very clever and cant believe it took me so long to work it out :)

Close mate

lemme explain - In an other life back in my Navy days, I joined LS1.com and I had to think of a username and I had no idea what to use.

Anyway, I was doing a training course at the time call Senior Sailors Advanced Staff Skills Course 1, abbreviated SSASSC1

Originally I planned to use SSASSC1 as a temporary measure, but after a while it stuck on me and the rest is history.

Although I do like SASSY1 – and if I eventually get banned off here you never know I might just used it ;)

lol, I would probably just ditch the Pussers explanation and go with
sassy1 :)
Cant see you getting banned for a little light hearted rivalry. Plenty
of people would be shown the door before you I reckon.

Hi

A friend of mine has a black convertible 350z with Brembos and I love driving it every now and then. I wouldn't have it as an everyday car but it is an awsesome fun spare car.

Come summer time on those days when its 35 degrees everyday in a row you will be cruising in it all hours of the night with the roof off having a ball. The sort of fun no ls1 could acheive in a commodore.

Bolt on supercharger kits are available in Melborune for $5grand if you want the extra power. Fuel economy is not crash hot though.

regards,

Richard
