Was a Top 5 runner in the NSW State Championship back when we regularly had 40 car grids a couple of years ago. Sold it now, miss the old girl... :bawl:

Only sold it as after spending a bomb and getting it where i wanted it we bought a business. Now looking to build a Commodore to suit Improved Production in the near future. Will be L98 powered either way. Possibly a VK "Bluey" lookalike, but probably a VX SS...

Gotta be happy with that!

Listy: Love the GTS mate, and the proposed graphics look great. However, if you're door to door racing they'll be an absolute pain to touch up I'd think? Or will you just remove the lot, and put them on again?

Thanks for the comments.
Have to way up the odds when I get to it about the bumper to bumper side of things. Promo vers practicability will come into that with sponsors.

A photo of my project car I finally got up here a few weeks ago. 84 model 300zx. Lots of work to go. Mission is 1200kg max, V8 (maybe C4B Ls1), cage, suspension and suitable for drift, motorkhana and circuit. Just a thrasher, no rego but a long term project. Couple of years as a guess.

Bending struts has been around a long time we used it in historic touring car racing to get camber as you are limited by adjustment done right it is fine as long as you heat the Material slowly. so as it not to crack

Wow mate! A VET, very jealous. Do you have any pics of this build or anything?

It was a pretty good find, I was looking for a GTiR motor for a customer when an importer I deal with told me he had a late model GTiR motor in stock that had a drive by wire throttle and top feed injectors but no computer and no gearbox... I had a genuine X-Trail GT at the time(personal import) so I got the importer to send me through some pics, sure enough it was the holy grail of SR20 motors. Picked it up for myself for $3500 with the intention of keeping it as a spare :) After a few weeks though, I chose to do something different after seeing the plans for this:
http://www.grabercars.com/gallery2/d/21718-1/GRABER.jpg
http://www.grabercars.com/

Sent the head off to Japan for some custom cams + porting work and the exhaust VVL gear added. Engine was rebuilt with forged internals using relatively high compression(9.7:1 rather than the stock 9.1:1), the SR16VE N1 eight injector manifold was fitted along with a GT42R on a custom manifold then mounted into a rear engine RWD chassis based on the Tommy Kaira ZZ. The gearbox from a FWD P12 Primera was even able to use a twin plate clutch :) Basically, I was aiming for a MR2/Ariel Atom/Tommy Kaira ZZ type of car and it has delivered the goods so far although it has been a bit unreliable, it has been a learning curve though. Sometimes, I wish I stuck with a Lotus 7 type chassis but hearing the turbo spooling just behind my ears is awesome :)

The engine runs on E85 since it was built and the variable valve timing & lift has no problems spooling up a relatively big turbo from low rpm with the custom cams. As soon as the manifold sees more than a certain amount of CFM, the cams switch and boost drops briefly with the wilder cams until it comes on like a banshee.

I stripped a car that had a similiar design and then made a few changes for ease of production, including using an S15 steering rack and 'drift rose jointed' S15/R34 suspension arms for ease of adjustability. After a few teething problems with the chassis cracking on the track + ripping the whole subframe out once on the dyno, the whole car was packed up late last year and sent to Europe where a new chassis has been hand made by people with better welding skills than myself and more accurate computer modelling of chassis design weak points. We had one bare chassis sent back a few months ago, which I have been building with a mate and is possibly even more insane...

Having a professional photoshoot on both kit cars done in 8 weeks.

Ok this is for
R DIRTY 3 on these forums

Vehicle is owned by Paul Cornes….however I spend more time racing this car than I do my own car J

1994 Nissan Skyline R33 GTS-t Vspec (RWD)

Engine is 2.5lt 6cyl with all forged internals. Currently runs GT3076R turbo which produces 470 at the wheels on a very conservative tune being controlled by GTR Apexi PowerFC ECU. (previously ran T04Z turbo producing over 600hp)

5 speed OS Gearset. Currently has Triple plate clutch but soon to be OS twin plate.

Diff is R32 GTR reshimmed and using GTR driveshafts. Rear Cradle is locked with aluminum lock rings.

Suspension Mods are Tein MonoFlex with revalved dampers. Whiteline front and rear adjustable swaybars. Adjustable castor rods, all steering links are spherical bearings. Front camber bushes, and full rear adjustable arms.

Wheels are lightweight Enkei RPF1 17x9 all round covering the Brembo Brake Calipers and DBA5000 rotors. Tyres depend on what event we are doing.

Body has been stripped of any unnecessary weight with a half cage installed. Front guards are widebody fiberglass, with Carbon fiber bonnet.

Drag strip = 11.4

Wanneroo short = high 55

Wanneroo Long = low 66 (about to go faster which many changes made)

Also went to U-PULLIT RACING and scored some brake calipers for the rear, single piston series 2 RX7 a bit nicer than the old heavy and sticky VN Commode caliper..... $44 for both calipers FTW, new seals next week and they will be good to go Couldnt find any close ratio gearboxes though

I am thinking of an LS1/L98/LS2 conversion and would like to hear from people who have used these engines on the track. With a decent sump and some good valve springs will it be reliable or will it need a lot more work to make it reliable?
I'm not chasing huge power, just more reliability.

It's an awesome little track, can't wait to drive it in something lighter. It is an AASA track, and the day was a WRX/SAU day. Really well organised, and not one incident.

The track is quite quic in the first half, and zero run off so it's pretty hairy, but the second half is pretty safe.

Well I think I have figured out how to put pics up so I'll give it a go.

Its not really a circuit car, I just use it as one and so far haven't broken to much stuff, touch wood.

VY SS

Engine - Standard at the moment, so to have Dart 225 Heads plus 242 250 Cam (not the most circuit friendly cam - but I'm sure it will be fun :burnout:

Gearbox - Standard

Clutch - A slowly dying standard clutch, soon to be NPC Custom item

Diff - Had 4.11s now back to standard 3.46 awaiting 4.11s or 3.9s with mini spool

Brakes - Slotted Rotors front and Rear with EBC Red Stuff on the front and Bendix Ultimate on the rear, may get a set of the Harrop 343 kit

Suspension - Kings Springs  I have whiteline swaybars sitting here just waiting to go on, but am still undecided on what to do about the rest

Interior - Standard - looking into a harness and cage soon

G'day all.
Thought I'd start contributing considering I'll shortly be asking a lot of dumb LS1 questions lol Also in the vain hope that the wankers I know on here (lookin' at you Fatboy and 10secrx7! :p ) will validate me haha

My car is a budget circuit pig which up until this weekend was a totally stock V6 and auto powered VN, except for bilstien suspension all round, coil overs and bigger slotted front rotors with skyline calipers. It's running EBC reds in the front and greens in the back. Back brakes are totally stock othert than pads. I really haven't paid any attention to visuals or asthetics (because I don't care - I just want to get out and drive it).

It managed a 1.28 at Oran Park GP and a 2.05 Eastern creek lap time on the stock motor and auto. Tyres are commodore cup control tyre Dunlop D01J 16in.

I'm about to fit up a stock LS1 and 5sp manual.

I recognise a number of cars here that have been at the same events which is cool! I got to do the Bathurst hillclimb the other weekend which was fun but the deciding factor that it was time for the V6 to go.

MY99 CS3 WRX

Running a VF28 STI turbo, Process West TMIC, Silicon Intake, 3" Pod, 3" TBE, GFB MBC, 500hp Walbro, Haltech Interceptor. Tuned to 187awkw.
I've gone for response rather than top end with these bolt ons.

Sits on 17s with very ordinary chinese Blue Streak tyres. Looking at getting a set of slicks soon.
Wheels are suspended by HKS Hiper-D coilovers. Adjustable height, damping, and front camber. Rear camber is not adjustable, but pretty aggressive. Hasn't had an alignment as yet, so not sure on camber specs.
Also sports a genuine Carbon STI strut brace on the front. Rear remains unbraced.

Standard calipers and discs, front and rear. Running Bendix ultimates in the front. Not sure of the pads in the rear.

Best time so far...
1.11.593 DRY
1.15.xxx WET at Wakefield

Currently the quickest Non-STI rex on street tyres, on the lap time registry.
I would like to take the outright quickest on street tyres before I try some slicks. This means knocking a little over 2secs off this time.

This time was run before I installed the coilovers. Had king springs on standard struts, shagged front brake pads, no strut brace.
Pretty keen to get back and see what improvements the suspension mods have made. Hopefully a little over 2 secs a lap improvement. :nyuk:

YouTube - Rex around Wakefield (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6l9XGJ8Oak&feature=channel_page)

This car is my wife's daily driver, so I can't go much further with it. (I already have to take the HKS struts and Strut brace out when not racing because they are too stiff for her comfort.)
I plan on getting another 99/00 rex, and transferring all the mods over to it. Then I'll be able to take it that little bit further.

Just wondering does anyone here run EBC Yellowstuffs on the track? Was looking at getting them for track days but wasn't sure if they are sutiable for street aswell and would require change over on the day. Oh also found Toyo 888's for 1300 for 235/45/17. Does anyone know where to get them any cheaper or is that quite a good price?

I run redstuff in the front of the VN and greens in the rear. I previously used greens on a road/track car.

The reds are a cow to stop the car when cold and it takes a while to warm them up. I would not use reds on the road. Greens were good, but cover everything in dust in no time.

In fact for supersprints even the reds take too long to properly warm up.

to be honest there is better stuff out there for the same money than EBC. I'll be trying some different brands soon.

Cost quite a bit to buy but costs less than a packet of ciggies a week to maintain + do 6 trackdays a year.

I use second hand Formula Ford semi-slicks @ $40ea and just regular BP98 fuel.

It will run perfectly all day long lap after lap with only needing to pit for fuel about every 35 laps (20L fuel cell).

It is for sale as im in the process of upgrading to a Radical SR3.

Went to Phillip Island on Saturday with the WRX club and they usually have a few EVOs at their motorsport days.
And Ronie I think Dale was out there on the weekend with his VY. Love what you have done to an original Clubby.:goodjob:

gidday all, new to the forum but know a couple of the guys on here.
i hail from melbourne, of course, the best part of our blessed country lol. i have been punting my vk around victorian tracks now in sprints since 2003. the car originally came from beautiful Tamworth, and was secured with the help of allan barnes from barnes smash repairs. built at dandenong as a 6cyl exec manual, she runs a sweet little old 308, and my god do i love listening to her purr at 6500rpm down conrod straight(oh, been there a couple of tmes too-good country australia)
anyway, she is formula blue as yo can see from the pic(oops, cant do that yet) with corvette aeros. t5 manual gearbox, floating 10 bolt rear end with full spool. 308.1 ratio, a 10 bolt looks better than those lob sided borgies do.
wiring is custom made and installed by steve crupi at sms automotive in bayswater in vic. he also built my engine, and three years on, its still a pearler. she makes 211rwkw, so not massive power, but she fast enough to get around bathurst with me(squidgy bit)behind the wheel.
brakes are 4 pot up front from an un-named manufacturer(japanese) while rear is commodore cup set up.
roll cage is a bond cage, off the shelf, and welded in. doors have everything taken out.
she weighs 1250 kg wet, 3250 with me in it, lol.
she is good for
1. sandown 1.26.22
2. winton 1.39.59
3. phillip island 1.56.22
4. mt panorama 2.42.58
5. oran park, i forgot, but we went up for our last hoorah so no times.
video can be seen of the old shitter(my baby) both from inside and external by hand held.

well, after what seemed like an endless list of things going(seems worse than it is) i got the oldgirl out on sunday october 2 nd for phillip island. it was a very successful day, with the car performing beautifully and with me doing the thinking and judgement bit behind the wheel, i managed to improve my best time from 1.56.22 to 1.53.09. i think we only had 4 dry sessions, and one wet, so maybe 15 laps total, with 90 odd cars fronting up with the kruger rand to actually run.
the 3 second improvement did show an interesting side effect. you cant expect to pick up a big chunk of time and not see some consequences. on bluemeanie, its the oiling system. when really moving abouut the tracks we visit, oil will actually splash out of catch can holes, just a little bit. it happens at winton because everything is 90 degree corners. yesterday at p.i. there was a lot of oil. so i need to investigate the cause(suspect extra speed through turns) but feel a better catch can design is required.
temp never got above 90 deg c, and oil pressure very good. the engine not making anymore power for the 3 seconds, just me pushing its and my own limits further.
if you race or sprint and have never been to the island, you gotta have a go.

gidday all, new to the forum but know a couple of the guys on here.
i hail from melbourne, of course, the best part of our blessed country lol. i have been punting my vk around victorian tracks now in sprints since 2003. the car originally came from beautiful Tamworth, and was secured with the help of allan barnes from barnes smash repairs. built at dandenong as a 6cyl exec manual, she runs a sweet little old 308, and my god do i love listening to her purr at 6500rpm down conrod straight(oh, been there a couple of tmes too-good country australia)
anyway, she is formula blue as yo can see from the pic(oops, cant do that yet) with corvette aeros. t5 manual gearbox, floating 10 bolt rear end with full spool.
5. oran park, i forgot, but we went up for our last hoorah so no times.
video can be seen of the old shitter(my baby) both from inside and external by hand held.

gidday Wayno :)

good to see you here :goodjob:

so the problem with the catch can filling up appears to be the breather pipe placement in the rocker covers. they are situated at the front of the engine, and internally they are baffled. however, after a high engine and road speed run down the straights, then hard on the brakes, the oil runs to the front of the engine, under the baffles, and up into the breather pipes, thence into the catch can. so the fix is to move the breathers, one on each cover, to the middle of the covers, on the vertical surface. there are no baffles required there, as oil would never get any where near the pipe unless the overs litterally filled with oil at high engine speed. so that will be a cheap fix, and needs to be done before we go to sandown for the cup day brighton holden ffcc-hsccv sprint series. cant wait, aiming to get into the 25's, anything else would be a bonus.

bluemeanie had her last run for 2011 at sandown on cup day, and set a new pb of 1.26.400, only slightly better than previous pb. the car ran faultlessly with the updated oil retention system in the rocker covers.
she has done approximately 2000klms for the year at pretty much full speed, no holding back. had a change to a t5 along the way, a full floater along the way, one cracked cyl head, two new bridgestones for last bathurst etc etc.
in the off season, the engine will come out for new welsh plugs all round, and then back in for one event before we head off to bathurst at easter 2012. afetr that, if money allows, i want a stroker and about 50 rwkw extra. :driving:

as the engine in blue meanie will be out before winton next feb, i will also do a clutch and flywheel upgrade, quick shift for the t5, rebuild rear shocks(they are bilstiens and rooted), go for yet another exhaust system, something side exit and megaphone style. so there's another lazy $2000.00, and thats before i go to bathurst. bugger.

ok, so 2012 is well and truly underway.
the bluemeanie race car has had two race meets this year, the sandown 6 hour relay and the bathurst motor festival over easter.
before those two however, the engine did come out for some tlc, of the reliablility type. new welsh plugs in brass, a lighter flywheel, and a new shifter for the t5. new pads in the rear, a full spanner check, a new tacho and all was ready.
the 6 hour at sandown was conducted over a 38 degree celcius weekend in february, and as a result of the heat, we all took it very easy on our cars. no reving past 6000 rpm. car made it through, and i was satisfied all was ready for bathurst.
at bathurst, we had 5 sessions on track, starting on good friday and concluding sunday. i must say, the old girl did not disappoint, completing every session without a hitch, save for the saturday morning session where i spun out in the chase on the left overs of a porsche 944's oil. at around 170klms/h, so nothing too exciting.
i managed to destroy a tyre through a lockup into turn 1, and kept her off the walls in the sunday afternoon session when trying really bloody harrd to stay in front of the van wyk express, a fast ex cup vh with a beautiful 308 in it.
anyway, i had a ball, and should anyone be interested in seeing the vids, they can be found on you tube, just look up vk4987's channel.
i cant upload pics of the car yet, but hopefully soon.

there pretty good times. My old boy got down to a 1.57 at Philip island this year in his group C Torana.
Can't recall the other 2 track times though

anyone new to the circuit doing a 57 at the island and a 27 at sandown is doing a hell of a job, especially in a hairy chested group c torana. took me a while to get used to my car going fast, well some call it fast. there are club commo's much faster than this one as you would well know.
i have the island down to 1.53.098 since october last year, and cant wait for another crack in hopefully may this year. aim for this year is to get sandown down to 25's, island down to 52's and winton to 38's. no stroker, just the little ol 308.

I know its from the darkside but I still love it nonetheless. This is my dads latest purchase. He has had it for about 9 months now and has entered the historic touring car series this year. The plan is that hopefully I will be racing it in the future.

For those of you Perth memebers going to the V8 round next month he will be running it there in the historics so feel free to come and say gday to us in the pits if you want.

1964 Mustang. 420HP 289ci, 4 IDA webers, 4-speed toploader, ford 9" with goldtrack centre.

Will try and get some better pics when im at the warehouse next.

hmm not this one i dont think, dad has had it for about 9 months and before that it was in a shed at Barbagallo raceway for a few years... It might have been Pete Geoghegan's original car. This one wasn't his actual car but was driven by him on 3 occasions one of which was at Bathurst in 1991 (can see on the plaque in the last pic)

Haven't posted for a long time on here. Thought i might post up my circuit car.

Currently running in the QV8S series in Qld. Been doing it up for about 2 years. Got in running for the Shannon’s
meet at QR in 2011. Only been out to a handful of events but will run the series in the QV8S this year. Lot to learn in driving it but slowly
getting better in the times i am running.

Specs

VH with VK Group C kit, Rear bar and group C spoiler still to do but not far away.
RacePak Dash and sensors
LS1 motor and 6 speed making around 440rwhp
6 piston v8 supercar front brakes and Mazda RX7 4 piston rear brakes
Willwood pedal box
Borgwarner full floater Diff with Kazz LSD and 3.9 gears
Watts Link rear end
Front springs 600lb and rears 350lb adjustable height. Run the little front coil over springs in rear.
MCA 3 way adjustable rear shocks and Bilstein coilovers front, soon to get MCA fronts.
V8 supercar 17 x 11 wheels

The car has plenty of power, just got to learn lines of the tracks and more experience and should see my times fall.

Current Times
Lakeside - 1:02.20 only been there twice and had car issues once so hopefully better times next time out.
QR National - 1:22.66
QR Clubman - 1:02.28
QR Sprint - 0:58.50

Thanks to people who have helped along the way and still help out. Chris, Chris NZshaker, Garry and Dan.

Big help from Western Suburbs Mechanical who have helped a heap and let me use the workshop. Chris is the owner there and if you need anything done give them a call.
