This might sound stupid but try using the steel wool thats impregnated with soap. Dip the steel wool in water and rub your life away on the alloy.
You will be supprised. Then you can finish off with some alloy polish or
something similar.
works good on bull bars etc.
Thanks LS2, i was worried the steel wool would leave scratches. Buit i will give it a go and finish off with an Alloy polish like you suggested. Cheers.

I reckon get yourself a "Mothers powerball" and Mothers alloy polish. I just bought one and found it amazing. It just goes into your drill and saves alot of time and effort. Great for wheels as well. You can buy large and small ones. And easy to clean. Hope this helps.

floor moutned buff with lots of different wheels and a few different grades of polishing compound has always worked for me. . .
polished alloy will always fade though...

Mothers and Autosol are the only products to use, comes down to personal preference :)

California custom - purple is good if its already been buffed i find.
my attack would be.
get some steelo's from woolies (the little steel wool sponge things that come with soap already in them and come in a box)
put them in a bucket of warm water to bring the soap out and make it easier,
scrub the shit out of it till its all nice and smooth
get some autosol and a start polishing, it should go black then nice and shiny

Best way to go. Bench grinder with spindal attachment for sizal mops and some compound blocks.
Thanks everyone. I certainly have a good variety of ways to polish the Alloy. Thanks to all who took the time to give advice.
