Guys

I was in having my car serviced yesterday and was picking it up when I stumbled across a Phantom 60th Anniversary SS.

I will be in the market shortly and for the money and things on offer, this limited edition does seem like a good deal. I was going to buy a VE GTS but was possibly put off by one of Holden's own.

It was a 6 Spd manual which is what I would want.

Can people please give me their honest opinion on this car. I was thinking of waiting for the new engine with cylinder deactivation but would prefer to buy a new car prior to then.

I was also thinking of a Sportswagon but don't really need a wagon - it would be handy but not necessary.

So, please, all opions would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

What does it offer over an SS V and how much more does it cost?

From memory they are just over $55K + ORC and the big cost items above standard are Holden SatNav and the 20" Supersport rims. According to 95% of people who have it Holden's SatNav is crap and I would prefer to spend $300 or so on a touch screen portable satnav like TomTom. The rims are OK but previous experience tells me that the main reason for offering them is probably because they overestimated demand and now are overstocked. Most people on here would probably put aftermarket rims on anyway.

Given Holden are currently offering brand new SSVs (inc. free auto if required) for under $51,990 driveaway I don't think the Anniversary model justifies anything like the extra money!

exactly wonky. just like they put the SV6 spoiler and the ssv tailights on the current MY09 SS instead of the bigger SS spoiler. (allbe it a tad easier to see when reversing)

The car I looked at was $60,417 drive away. The vehicle(s) was/were initially supposed to come out with sat nav, but the sat nav was not ready in time to install in the cars, so they changed the specifications and added a sunroof. I already have a TomTom so that's fine with me

I quite like the rims but I do admit that I could find what ever I liked and then put them on. So then it would be finding an SSv with a sunroof.

I suspect I could end up with a car with sunroof and aftermarket rims for 55. Agree?

I guess my other concern (?) was if I should wait for the new engine or not.

I've just picked up a Nitrate SSV 60th anniversary.

Other differences also include the reverse sensors which also graphically display on the screen, different door handles, bigger spoiler (a good reason for the reverse sensors), the ability to upgrade to a 20" spare for just $250 rather than forking out for an aftermarket one. Mats and badging etc.

Hard to say if its worth the premium over a std SSV, possibly all depends if you want to change Rims and arn't too fused on the sunroof.

I was able to get an auto one with DVD, Towbar, Tint, Paint protection, Full size spare, locknuts etc for 57K, so shop around.

the one thing everybody is not saying is resale value the 60th will be worth a lot more to trade in 3-5 years or longer. the fact that there will only ever be 1 60th may make them a collector item judging from past knowledge BUT provided it is kept in mint condition and low ks and not thrashed

holden satnav is rubbish, it is not worth $25 , let alone the rrp

i think last time i had a renter in brisbane it took 6 mins to tell it I wanted airport dve, brisbane airport.....

plus once on the move, the sat nav locks you out of changes as a safety feature.

so glad i didnt spend the $$ on the Maloo for it.

Give me a Tomtom any day.

I don't think that's true based on what I have seen. You may get a fraction more for it than a standard model based on history and other anniversary cars but you're paying more up front in the first place.

I had a phonecall late Friday afternoon (while I was at the pub) from the salesman and he has said the pricing is now $55 driveaway and he said he would be probably be able to move on that. Rear DVD would be good only for the kids.

To be honest, I'd prefer the 60th Anniversary stuff not to be there but there are a couple of things that I do want. This then begs the question of buying a straight SS-V (last price I saw was $51 driveaway but if they have dropped the 60th....), getting the 20" Supersport wheels (sorry, I actually like them) and getting the other bits added.

You sound like a Holden New car salesman, Bullsh#t, Who the hell cares about a so called "anniversary" model (New car salesman quote).
I'm sure everybody in Australia is trying to hunt down a HJ 50 "anniversary" 202 model Holden, just like they'll be after a VE 60th in 10 years time NOT.
Anyway, sorry for being a prick, but I bet I can get more money for my 2008 Mazda 2 than a 60th commodore in 10 years times. You know I'm right! ( Sorry, but it may well happen... A sad day indeed!)
PS, I love fuel burning cars!

Cheers.

these are the exact figures I was quoted at a dealership here in Brissie.

I noticed in todays Motoring section that I can buy a SS-V for $51 driveaway.
So, does are 20" wheels, sunroof, bluetooth, rear park assist worth the $4000 premium?

Exclude Blue Tooth that is standard in both.

Roof retail is $1990
20" Is $2199 from memory.
Park Assist is $495

Just got to ask your self if you want those feature's?

The $495 price for the park assist doesn't include the option to have it come up on the SSV on the normal SSV. I had that done on my SSV when i had it. So they must be doing it as a part of the 60th when they build it.

I have a Sun Roof in my R8 and love it, but i miss the sun glass holder you have have when you don't have a sunroof.

At the end of the day if you happy with the dealer and the price go for it.

You know what?

Yes I do want all those features. But I could do without the 60th Anniversary badging and standard SS mats.

I am a little confused at the pricing for the Sat Nav

I am of the understanding the sat nav they are talking about is the full colour one that shows in the stereo display. I know the Turn by turn on that shows in between the instruments is rubbish (I had it in a hire car in Sydney and it drove me nuts). But how does $2300 pay for it. The stereo has the Nav button there so can someone please tell me what they have to do to the stereo

Nothing - they install the module into the glove box and plug it into the stereo.

The Holden sat nav units are a complete waste of money!
