Hi Guys,

I am seriously considering buying a new or ex-demo VE SV6 which would be my first Holden. I have had many other brands and ended up having a huge amount of problems with each so i'm trying to find a car that isn't a problem.

I would like to ask what your thoughts are on the build quality on the 2008 built VE's? Also, does your VE have a lot of annoying rattles and things falling apart?

I know that no car is perfect but i'd rather drive the car then have it at the dealer even more getting fixed!

Your comments much appreciated.

I've been a commodore man since the late 80s (vn onwards). My current VESS is the first commodore that I own that does not rattle! However, there are 2 problems sofar; noisy (clanking) front suspension and a leaky front crankshaft seal. Both fixed by Holden under warranty. No car is perfect though...

Abit off topic, if it's going to be a weekend car, I recommend getting a ve v8. It's so much more performance than the v6 and not bad mileage either! You can probably pick up a decent 1 yr old ve ss for about the same price as the ex-demo vesv6.

Had our VE SV6 for just under 2 years and I can honestly say it is a treat to drive and jumping form the V8 to the V6 a couple of times a week only reinforces what a great drive it is.

Our only issues have been HVAC control (was erratic) and a front suspension noise that was fixed up rather quickly.

Gets about 10.6L/100 k's (man.) in mostly urban traffic, and I reckon for any slow corner it will get around it quicker than the GTS - the SV6 is a very nicely balanced car. On a trip the only annoyance it has is that you have to change out of 6 gear at any hint of a hill - has Nil torque in 6th gear, however spinoff is that the fuel economy is probably better.

Mate the only problem with having a point of view such as yours, is that you sound fairly easily swayed. This could potentially put you off Holdens forever should you buy one and it be a lemon. You are probably better off to just test drive 4 or 5 and make up your mind from there, even test drive one from a private seller with say 60-70 000km on it, this should give you a fairly good indication of what it may be like in a few years time. Unfortunately though, as others and yourself have said, NO car is perfect, and the famed 'friday afternoon car' is as real as the screen you are reading this off now.

Good luck with your decision.
