View Full Version : Wheel Upgrade
Hi all,
About to upgrade to either 18" VESS or 19" VE SSV wheels, currently have stock VZ SV6 17" rims. Previous car had 17" as well. Just wondering is there much difference in ride quality between the 18 & 19. I imagine with less rubber you feel more of the road?
I'm leaning towards 19's but would like to hear if you guys have any comments. Any advice would be great. Thnx!

I can't comment on ride quality as my VZs both stayed at 18" but one thing you may need to factor in if you go for VE SS or SSV rims is that you may be restricted to 225 profile tyres, not the original 245s. That's the case on earlier models eg. VX so I assume is the case with VZ still. If you do a search there are a number of fairly recent threads in here discussing that.
Thanks for that, will have a search & check it out!!

Just an update....... got some new 18" VE SS with Nexen rubber put on yesterday, took a while to decide whether to go 18 or 19" but all in all very happy with how it looks & handles. Had Kings super low springs put in prior to the wheels. You feel a bit more of the road, but just the look & feel it gives you is well worth it!! Can't stop looking at it!!!

ive got a vyss, had the standard 18s when i brought it, rode great, ive put 19s on it now with low profile rubber and she still rides just as good, really depends on what tyre u go with, mines even dumped now and it still rides well, a little stiffer but thats to be expected

20's it looks sweet, bumpy though
just thinking about those bumpy roads to Pt Leo and Phillip Island made me stick to 18's.
I agree 20 do look sweet!

245/35/19 fit fine on a VX? If you were to go 20's need to run either 225/35/20 or 245/30/20 on the front unless you have coil-overs or modified struts.

I was under the impression that VE wheels wouldnt fit on previous models because they had a larger stud size, obviously I must be wrong, can anyone shed some light on this as I was thinking some 20"GTS wheels would look nice on my VU ute.

No, youre not wrong.
You can get 20" GTS's replicas that will fit. With the original ones though, you need the centre stud machined out by about 2mm from what Ive heard. I think the 5 studs need doing as well. IMO just get the copies.

to put ve rims on earlier models the centre hub on the rim has to be machined out then they will fit.

ive ve ss 18's on my vy storm the tyres that came on them are 245/45/18 these were about 1 mm of hitting the strut, i just put on 235/40/18s and works fine

Your probably right VESS60, just get the copies and check the load ratings.
Yep my rims were machined, and the tyres are Nexen N3000 235/40/R18.
The look bigger on the VZ than the VE due to the lower profile tyre!!
I'd stick with the original version, they are reasonably priced!

What change in price?
I bought 4 SSV wheels for $950 (brand new from Holdens) and 4 tyres for $300 each which totals $2150.
I sold my scratched SS wheels for $1150ish on eBay.
So I upgraded from 18" to 19" and also got new tyres for $1000.:)
Im going to upgrade to 20inch soon and will do the same with my mint SSV wheels.
