GUYS
i know big cams use more fuel then little ones
but trying to get some context so can you put up your cam size and avg fuel usage ? dont want to get in to the 30lt per 100k zone like my 355 stroker:bawl:

I'm curious also, but it does depend a lot on manual/auto, diff gears/stall etc.

But from what i'v read on the forums in the past, for a decent sized stick (ie. 23x/23x 112LSA) generally fuel consumption seems to be around the 10 - 12L/100k highway and 20 - 24l/100k in the city.

16lt's per 100 if i dont give it any wot. i.e city driving.

often lucky to get 400km to a tank in the ute so that's 65ish litres.

however i can get over 600km's to a tank if it's all highway.

I have cubes on my side to take some of the nastiness out of the cam and rarely see more then half throttle or revs over 3500rpm driving around.

I'm currently in the process of getting a new cam specced up for my needs. i.e good vacuum at idle and cruising manners and to work well with the vortech.

too give you an indication, the car idles at 900rpm @ 80kpa.

what do you think you would get from a 224x228x110 with 637 lift with a6 stocks stall and 3.27 gears
round town ?

These days I think it would take a very big cam and a big heavy right foot to get near the 30lt/100k region.

That size cam is not really that big if its going into a ls3 (just assuming from your ride description). Many people have run similar in a 5.7 and the highest fuel consumption I have heard about is 22lt/100km so with a bigger capacity engine giving you more low down power I would assume you should remain under the 20lt/100km figure.

Lift is pretty aggressive on it though:bow: going dual springs? Should make some very nice power with that.

Im talking to the extremes here too but I think its best to work in a worst case scenario when it comes to fuel consumption...

Well i would disagree very very much with you.... i get 180 to 200ks around town out of a tank of fuel...60 odd liters is normall fill.

232/234 112lsa,
Dart 225 head,
exhuast 2.5 dual,
otr,
udp,
4200 stall,
auto,
3.9 gears
standard rear 17" ss rims...

Highway is awsome pulls 11.5 l average consistantly...

And it does not get driven hard around town... or highway for that mater...

I'm fairly sure this subject has been done to death - :google: is good!!!

I have a 224/228 @112+2 on the LSK lobes you speak of Atomic and I do mostly country highway/freeway and light urban, ie NOT city bumper to bumper driving.

Freeway/highway - 10-11lt/100

Urban - 11.5-13.5lt/100

Worst has been 18+, but that was fairly being fairly keen on the pedal for that tank.

Just another thing, I'd definitely be checking piston to valve clearance if I was putting that cam (on 110lsa) into an LS3.

Cheers,

Macca

My old 224/228 .581 112 cammed LS1 gave around 300-320 per tank and my VE with 232/234 .596 112 does 300-320 per tank with a bigger cam heavier car bigger motor. Its in the tune and in the average speed you do. Mine sits on about 9-11 L/100 on city runs and 20 L/100 in my short sharp suburb blasts.

233/237@110LSA.. 330-350 per tank.. now with the turbo first tank was pretty much the same, second tank.. much more of a hard time.. conciderably less!

Car:

Monaro CV8-R 5.7L M6 with 3.9 diff gears

Cam:

Custom Russo baby cam. Somewhere around the 220/220 mark.

Fuel Usage:

Highway - 9-10L/100 (Avg speed between 70-90km/h)

City with some freeway work - 12-14L/100 (Avg speed around 40-50km/h)

Straight City with a bit of stick - 16-17L/100 (Avg speed around 25-30km/h)

This car has improved greatly over its standard and bolt on fuel usage when I added the cam. I used to average in the low 20s for the city run and never less than 15L/100 on a trip!

City, well Mt Isa so no traffic : Approx 14L/100km ( being a very good boy on the street :) )

Alot of it is in the tune, make sure you get a tuner who will tune all load points and not just WOT as I found some QLD workshops do.
