I currently own a vy ss ute. which i am preparing for sale.
I just wanted to know what peoples general impressions were of the vz senator?
Is it worth the the money over a clubsport?
I know the little extras you get in the senator. (ie interior).
What other benifits are there.
I have been doing a little reseach in to them but i know there are certain spec's i don't know.
So if any one can shed some light it would be great. cause it is a bit of a financial adventure.
I am plannig to bring all the mods on my ute over to the vz. plus building a bullet proof A4.
Any help and advice is welcome
Thanks.

The extras are the opulence and the fact that compared to the Clubby, they are very understated and not too common. Well worth the $$$ I reckon.

Agree with Macca on this.. Surprise Surprise. A Senator is well worth the extra over a clubby. Basically mate you will get all the Calais equipment and quite a few HSV only extra's too.

I don't know about earlier models, but my Clubby has Calais equipment. I'd guess because it's based on the Calais :D
Like I said though, don't know about earlier models.

Yeah it was different in the older models mate. You can pick it in the early ones because the VIN had the X for Calais spec in it. Back in VT-VZ I know for a fact that only Senator's rolled into HSV as X spec cars.
For VE its going to be a different story as a Calais is more of a Berlina these days and a Calais V would be the old Calais if you get my drift.

WTF? Calais is still a Calais. There's just a higher spec'd one, the Calais V. There aren't a lot of differences between the two.

senators are auto-only so that may or may not be a show stopper for ya mate.
i like the senators though. more understated than a clubby but have plenty of features.

Not really, If that was the case you would think that a VE calais would loose no equipment to that of a VZ. Old Calais' had 8 way seats as an example and now you have to go up to Calais V to get that. Put it this way. Even my 1999 Model Senator has equipment that a new Calais/Clubby doesn't. Things like Auto Level Suspension, dual 8 way seats, electromicronic rear view mirror. Its all stuff that only a Calais in the old days and a Calais V would get now.
[edit]Actually I don't even think Calais' ever got the mirror or the suspension.. But the seats are a good example none the less.

i say go for it very understated not as look at me as a clubsport good sleeper cars and you get looots of different interior options. Put it this way if i didn't find my gto then thats what i was gunna get. Just remember it your cash your car ure decision

I more of a GTS man but if its between a Senator and a clubby, i think the higher spec senator is the way to go. They can be real sleepers or pimp mobiles haha

I went from a vx ss to a vx belina 5.7 wagon and now own a vz senator. This is the best car i have ever owned. For a stocker it shit all over my other cars that had bolt ons to make them go hard and handle the windy stuff. As for the senator only being an auto i quite like this one over the auto in the wagon which had been played with. The only thing is it reavs a bit hi on the open road, im am looking into changing the 4 speed to the 6 speed auto. Have been told it is a straight swap, just need to check out if the computer can been changed to suit. But when i did a trip to melbourne she dropped down to 9 ltr-100 average with a bit of WOT. All in all the next car will now be a new senator just love them.

Computer is no problem mate. VZ LS2's run two comps. An E40 for the engine and a T42 for the trans.. You just ditch the T42 for a conversion and remap the E40 to suit.

The only thing I see that is better in a calais V compared to a normal calais are the seats.. flip down screens suck(IMO)..Would prefer headrest screens like the caprice/grange.. you would get aftermarket wheels or option the supersports so the 18's over the 17's are not that great.. you get a badge couple of extra bits of chrome and Umm.. Heated mirrors? oh and front parking sensors.. Standard Calais only has year.
I see the value and luxury of a Senator.. Its worth the Extra over a clubsport for sure.. and im guessing would have better resale.. Clubbys are dime a dozen.. Senators are something abit more special..

If you want an auto then there is no contest: Senator all the way.

yeah i wouldnt mind a VZ senator. the VZ senator looks completely different to the VZ clubsport whereas the older ones where just a different kit and a bit of chrome (in essence). in canberra you rarely see VZ senators getting around, i might even go as far to say "they are as rare as rocking horse shit"

Huh??????? Have you actually looked inside, or studied the specs of an 'older' one?

i meant asthetically, my brother has a series II vy signature so i understand the differences. should have been a bit clearer with my initial post. I actually wanted a senator in the first place but couldnt afford it :(
