Time for serious comment : Black looks the toughest.

Black is my personal preference... Mine was red to start with... I also changed the side vents too.

It all comes down to personal preference. I don't think chrome on red looks good, but chrome on silver would. Go for whatever YOU want mate! :D

It's personal preferance mate, go with what you like, it's your car, black looks good on a red car, have seen it on a blue one and it was :spew:

Just got the parts from the dealer l bought the car from, no issues, no build number

I quote them often enough to not need to check them again. Chrome is far more common and a Holden part number. Black is far less common and a HSV part number.
Economies of scale and two different pricing structures at play here.

It's true! Varies a tad from dealer to dealer but all of them are at least $400. My local dealer told me $432!!! For a piece of damn plastic!!!

It's actually a lot more simple than that Davo. The black one's are for HSV GTS' only and the chrome ones are for Calais' and Calais Vs. It's to discourage people from immitating HSV looks... A far far cheaper option is to just have the bonnet strip painted. I did while my car was getting repaired, along with the side vents.

HSV only need dealers to confirm the car is "genuine HSV" to restrict people imitating them, as they are meant to do before selling an item.

Not all of them do though...

True, but they risk losing access to parts if they get caught. Like everything in life, it only takes a few to f*ck it up for everyone.

the easiest way to do a colour change is buy a infill trim any colour and use signwriting vinyl over the top of it for the colour change. being such a small area you can get it bubble free and nice smooth corners will let you wrap the vinyl around. You should pay about $8.00 p/m for good quality 5 year material and about $12 for 7 year material. You can get all colours including matt black, fluro, carbon fibre look, holographic solids, pastels etc. If you dont like it or want you can pull it off with a heat gun or hair dryer and change colour. You can also do other areas like guards, and exhaust infills this way.

1989mitty - have a look at my car as it is the same colour as yours
imo the chrome calais one goes very nicely, and i cannot justify the $410 fir the same thing in black! - i thought the 90 bucks was extortion...
i dont think the black looks as good on the silver cars, and with the blended colour, it just increases the chance of a paint mismatch (especially a prob in silver) so it would look out of place as it seems you tried to match it, but couldnt

but each to their own
just my 2c
cheers

I think the silver needs the silver piece as it is too much of a contrast for black.

however my 2c on fake HSV's is don't do it. if you want it to look like a HSV, buy a HSV
