Well after getting back my sizeable tax return i decided to buy a bike. Unfortunately i'm still on restrictions for a while so i had to buy something legal. However, with the recent introduction of LAMS, i'v managed to get myself something with a little more poke then my old CBR250RR.

So, on Thursday i took the day off work and went into Peter Stevens, looked around, test road a few of their LAMS approved bikes and i'v ended up ordering a two tone (Silver/Black) Hyosung GT650R.

Now i know a lot of people trash their name, and say they have heaps of quality issues and they've had to wait for months for parts. But, after taking it for a 45 odd minute test ride, it's much better then i was expecting. Handles great, goes alot better then my little cibby (and still in restricted form too), the only thing i had an issue with was the braking. It really feels a bit sub-par, but i'm sure some braided lines and decent pads will fix it right up!

Anyway, just wanted to share, i'm absolutely STOKED! 5 year/unlimited km warranty, Peter Stevens assured me then have lots of spare parts in stock if anything should go wrong and, the best part...I PICK IT UP TOMORROW! :D

I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them up!

sounds good mate, looking forward to the pics, i just got my license 3 weeks ago and ended up buying a zzr250, pretty gutless but still good fun,as you said people trash talk hyosungs but honestly i think for the price there a very nice looking bike, and out of the couple people i know who own these bikes they couldn't be happier:goodjob:

At the end of the day if that's what you want and you liked the way it road then sweet go for it, by the sounds of it that's what you've done so well done hope you have a ball with it. How hard do they pull compared to something like a CBR 600 or R6 I've never ridden one that's why i ask.
I've always been a fan off the 900/1000's.
Actually just got of my brand new CBR 1000 about 15 mins ago for the 2nd ride today and had a blast I loooovvvveee da power of 1000's you just cant beet em. IMO

Cheers nath

They definitely look pretty good. How much is involved in 'un-restricting' them once your off your P's?

Nathan, i test rode both a restricted and unrestricted version, and the unrestricted version goes pretty decently.

I'v ridden a 600RR and a GSXR750, and i'd say the unrestricted Hyosung pulls better below 6k RPM, but after that, the other two leave it for dead. But it has very noticeably more torque low in the rev range - in other words, ideal for around town.

Olddicko, it a piss easy job to derestrict it. I'll be doing it in the next couple of months even though i'll be on restrictions. All you need to do is replace 2 carby slides - it's a 30 - 60 minute jobs depending on experience. And, unless someone pulls the bike apart, they cant tell it's derestricted! :D

Pics will be up shortly!

Ok, so here goes.

I went down to Peter Stevens Dandenong at about noon today to pick up my bike. Customer service was fantastic, and their business manager, Karen is an absolute legend - she jumped through hoops to end up saving me at least 2 grand off my insurance and bike price.

After all the paperwork, i picked up my gear (AGV Stealth helmet, A* GP gloves, A* SMX-4 boots), got my bike (They detailed it, serviced it and fitted a tinted screen already) and rode it home.

It's a pretty decent bike, although the lack of brake power does annoy me a little. It's adequate, but i prefer more. So braided lines and better pads will be going on shortly.

I'v already ordered an aftermarket pipe for it to let the v-twin sound like it should, and i'v already modified my own custom fender eliminator to remove the HUGE stock fender.

Anyway, heres one pick, i'll take some better ones tomorrow. Overall, absolutey stoked! :D

Well done cbwolf, nice bike. They're a top bike for the price, and with the 5yr/unlimited km warrany you can't go wrong. What type of rubber did it come with? I've heard a couple people say they chucked on a decent set of tyres and it made a huge difference to the handling. I've had a very brief ride on one of these but I never paid much attention to the tyres.
It should be a good bike to learn on, like you said because of the torquey engine.
All the best with it mate. :goodjob:

Very nice looking bike mate. I've been thinking about going for my bike liscense but after going for a ride on my mates CBR250....I'm abit frightened of how quick they pick up speed and of falling off...lol.

Stay safe!

They are a nice looking bike great value for money. I love CBR1000s, my choice of the 4 cylinders but we cannot use the power of one on our roads, nor a 600 for that matter, Plus they are very wristy. I own a 02 VTR1000. It is my daily rider. Not to bad on fuel. It has pipes, DNA filter and a jet kit. Goes pretty hard for a twin, some guys are in the 10s with them, dont think i could use more power.

Nice bike mate. Nice colour scheme.

very nice bike dude, for the price, looks, and warranty, i would be happy.

keep it for a yr or 2 and sell it with warrenty should get good money still, then get yaself a 1000, once you ride one you will never go back,

WELL for the right price i have a 99 R1 for sale, unhappily but i need to sell it, getting back into dirt bikes.
