Hi all,

I have to remove the lower plasic cover on the steering column (the one where the ignition is) to replace it.

There is on screw holding it at the end closest to the firewall. At the top (towards the steering wheel) there are 2 (one each side) plastic lugs the hold this end up. These plasic lugs are part of the internal housing for wiper/indicator arms etc..

When you undo the screw the housing needs to slide forward to enable the front of the housing to drop away, thus allowing me to change over the part.
The problem is there is not enough forward (towards the steering wheel) movement due to back of the steering wheel being in the way.

I have seen some photos where people have removed the top and bottom housings around the steering column with the steering wheel still in place.

Does anyone know how to remove this part?. If so could you tell me please.

Cheers
Phil

Thanks for your reply Ben,

I did do a search for this and came up with I think the same thread. I can not access the link you provided (I get: you do not have permission to access this page message!!).

I thing that thread covered VT-VZ. Maybe I should have put VE in the title to avoid any confussion. As VU_V6 mentioned..

If you don't want to damage the lower column surround, yes you have remove the steering wheel

In the past i've loosened the steering wheel attaching bolt, left it in there and just slid the steering wheel back a bit giving you enough space

You can leave the steering wheel on but position it upside down. It gives you more room to pull the bottom cover back to remove it. The correct way is to remove the steering wheel but you dont have to. can email pics if you want.

Pics would be great. Is this process for a VE?
