Guys,

Whats the avearge results for a tune these days on the VE's say with Exhaust, CAI & Tune. From observations of various posts It appears that figures from the L98's are somewhat higher than what they are getting on the LS1's. Is this the case?

Naturally they are going to be bigger numbers due to the larger more efficient and thus more powerful engine.
With those mod's I've seen anything from 250-280rwkw. One thing I've always been curious about but I don't think anyone has done it, is to bolt more efficient heads on an LS1 and see how they compare. We all know how great the L98 heads are so fitting something of equivalence while retaining the stock cam to an LS1 would be interesting. You could say that comparing an LS1 to an LS2 would be a good guide but the cam in the LS2 is alot more peaky than that or the L98.

A small variation to the thread if I could. Im out of the Holden loop at present and im trying to get back up to speed. The LS1 is the old 5.7l Gen3 and the LS2 is the Gen4 or L98 that is fitted to VE's? and LS3 is the new 6.2L in HSV's is this correct. Basically I was after a run down on what is LS1 LS2 LS3 etc what Gen they where and is L98 just another name for them like Ford have Boss 260 Boss 290 Boss 315 etc.

L76, L98, LS2, LS3, LS7, LS9 are all considered GEN IV engines. L98/L76 is basically an LS2 with a smaller cam but more efficient L92 Heads. Those same heads are also fitted to LS3.

Thanks for that so its the L98 that's fitted to VE's thats a GenIV and also referred to as an LS2?

no its not an LS2. But it is a GEN 4 and so is an LS2.

Confused Yet :D

Trying not to get confused hehe. So the current VE V8 holdens are L98 Gen 4's. So what Holdens got the LS2's? An a VE SS for example has an L98 so what LS series is it? or is it not a LS series full stop. The VT's had LS1's correct. There after I need alot of polishing up om my Holden's me thinks.:)

Here it is:

LS1 - GenIII up until VZ series 1 (HSV and Holden)
LS2 - HSV VZ II to VE (Just Superceded)
LS3 - HSV 6.2L (Current)
L76 - VZ Series II 6L (has DOD Hardware, but disabled)
L98 - VE 6L

That's exactly what I was after. Much clearer know so the first lot of VE's had LS2 and now they have L98's (when did they change from LS2 to LS98?) I assume L98 is a bit of an upgrade of sorts). My mate has a Oct 07 VE SS ute so that would have an LS2 or LS98? as they are both 6l.

Wonky

With those mods on an A6 I had low 230s on a known conservative dyno (that has seen a couple of stock M6s get in the same ballpark!!). Once I swapped the GTS extractors for Pacies and high flow cats and went from pod filter to Orssom OTR I ended up at my current 264rwkw. I wouldn't waste money on a pod filter now - OTRs are far better BFB. :yup:

Sorry but you've read it incorrectly. All Holden VE V8s are the L98. HSV VEs were LS2 but are now LS3 as of recently.

And to confuse things even more late model VZ UTES Sep 06+ (The ones that were made when VE was also being made are fitted with L98's too :D Only VZ Sedan and American G8's got L76.

And...
ALL VZ HSV's except the AWD verions came out with the LS2 from launch. It did not start later in VZ! The AWD VZ HSV's kept the LS1.

Ah well, if that's the worst thing I can mess up then I am not too concerned.
