Greetings everybody,

The wife's got a CDX Astra hatch which we bought new in early 07. Brilliant car, very pleased with it, even though I don't drive it much at all. However, there's an issue with the car on take-off that's been plaguing it since we got it and it's gotten to the point where the wife wants to replace the car with something else because it's uncomfortable to drive - especially in stop start traffic where you're constantly being propelled into someone's rear bumper.

Basically, off the line, you press the accelerator just slightly and the engine jumps - so it doesn't accelerate smoothly. It just puts too much power down with such little throttle (not the the Astra has all that much power, but still). It also has this terrible loud vibration as it takes off, which goes away after the initial acceleration.

She doesn't recall the problem with the car that she test drove. It just seems quite odd. You need to be so careful with it in stop-start traffic, because if you're not paying attention you'll end up in someone's boot.

So does anyone know if this is the norm with Astras? Is this something we should be concerned about?

Thanks.

Just picked up a new '08 CD for my girlfriend mate - never had that problem so i doubt that it'd be normal ? Get it checked out for sure...

we had an 05 cdx wagon, auto - with the same issue. Apparently its the electronic throttle control. It takes a fair bit of practise to get used to it and not jerk the takeoffs (I never could be bothered trying - car was too heavy for its engine and gearbox)
