GUYS how long do you think red walls painted on to your tyres would last on LOW profile tyres as the side wall would roll over to scuff off the red wall paint

how much to get them done ?

In Melbourne they charge about $40 a tyre.
Just make sure you don't have any silicone on your tyres as it will crack after about 3 months.

i dont understand the obsession with painting the rims black and red/whitwalls
i must be boring or something
just because something is unusual (not seen often) doesnt mean its a good thing

atomic maloo r8 - your car is sex on wheels as is - please, for the love of god, please do not tarnish this by a rash decision to follow what is a disturbingly growing trend on aussie 8's

rant over, haha

Interesting to see a younger bloke have the same opinion as myself, I was beginning to think that it was just because I was of the older generation that I thought black wheels and red/whitewalls were a backward step.
At the end of the day we are all individuals and beauty is in the eye of the beholder so if they float your boat go for them.

well guys thanks for your opinions :)
i really was just wondering how long the red/white wall would last being that it is so close to the road on a low profile tyre
i would think the first time you went around a corner a bit fast you would rip some of the paint of
i can remember having real white walls the ones you had to deflate the tyre to slip under the rim ,on my first new car and they used to fly to pieces at about 90 miles an hour so when the ones that were molded in to the tyre came out that was good ,
not really thinking of doing my ute though was just curious :)

I have red walls on 30 series tyres on 20 inch rims, but I've only had them just on a week

I put mine on brand new tyres so there is no problems with silcone coming out throught the tyre and pushing the red walls off

Your best bet is getting someone who has done red walls before and speak to some people amount how they have found them because everyone who does them has a different method

Ive had whitewalls on my VE for a while,

while i reckon they look great,

they dont last very long, they are expensive, hard to keep clean and looking bright..

and if you have a retard who does them (like i did - and lowered the car down ontop of the machine which made it spit up and belt the rim - which i only found last week.. now i need a new rim..) its just not worth it..

Once my tires run down and i need new ones or get new rims i will never ever bother with them ever again.

To answer the original question, the sidewall doesn't roll over and scuff the side of the tyre... I think everyone with low profile tyres would be in serious trouble if it did

Yep not much give in a low profile tyre, they look good but as a result give a sh%t ride, but looking good comes before ride to many.:)

i had red walls on my VY SS, they were just painted ones, they lasted for a couple of months looking okay, they were there for 6 months in total, but were cracked and faded, plus 1 had a big piece missing where i rubbed the tyre on a gutter.

i rubbed them off in the end, but if you were going to a car show etc, it was good for something different, people looked for sure

I have red walls and the quality is rubbish! They cracked after about a week and I know there is one guy who has had them done 3 times by this same muppet and they just keep cracking and flaking!

Has anyone else had this problem?

Does anyone have contact details for a decent red wall guy in melbourne?

Maybe some kind of residue from tyre black stuff or wash stuff thats effecting the walls?

Tyres were brand new before the red walls, so its not that

badnews
07-10-2008, 12:50 PM
mate how long they last will pretty much depends entirely on the paint used. most people who do them do a pretty good job, but if they cant get hold of some good paint it wont make a difference. ive had red walls last only a week till it rained, then again ive had white walls and red walls that held colour well for at least 6 months.

the only problem you might have in regards to scuffing is if you drive on a soft surface (eg. wet grass when your washing your car) and if the wheel sinks in a little bit and spins it can rub the red walls straight off. happened to me trying to reverse off the wet grass back onto my driveway after washing the car before qld powercruise.

if it is done properly it should last the life of the tyre
mine lasted 12 months then I sold the rims and they where still good
they do fade a bit but didnt crack or flake off
