Thought I'd take some time to publicly thank the boys at Gerald Slaven Holden in Belconnen ACT...

Thankfully, I haven't had any serious issues with the Clubby but the issues I have had have been delt with exceptionally professionally and as quickly as possible without compromise to the quality of the workmanship.

In summary, I picked up the car in January 2008. No issues whatsoever. Couldn't be happier. Then one day a few weeks later I noticed a clicking noise coming from the steering wheel when turning it a fair way (90 degree corner or more). Not very loud and didn't seem to affect the steering in any way at all, just very annoying.

Dropped into the Service Department at Gerald Slaven one afternoon on my way home from work and discussed it with them. I wasn't worried, it was just annoying now that I knew it was there. So we agreed that out of convenience, they would look at it when I took it in for the 15,000km service.

Took it in for the 15,000km service which they did and to try and resolve the clicking in the steering, they replaced the intermediary shaft. Great! No more clicking noise - for about 2 weeks. Then one day it was back. So I swung back past the Service Department at Gerald Slaven one afternoon and took the Service Manager (Lou) for a drive. He was trying to work out where it could be coming from for a while and then just said "bugger it, I'll swap out the whole steering column". He had to check on parts availability but was going to get back to me and let me know. He called me a couple of days later and told me one of the major components they needed was on overseas back order and he'd get back to me when it came in.

About a month went past but I didn't think anything of it. Then got a call out of the blue. It was Lou - he was apologetic about taking so long to get back to me but let me know the parts had come in and they could do it whenever it suited me. By then I suggested I just wait until the intermediate service (aka oil change) was due at 22,500km. Lou was happy with that.

So the time came to take it in for the 22,500km service and get the steering column replaced. Meanwhile I'd started noticing the VE front end knock so I managed to get a copy of the engine mount techline, printed it off and took it with me. Talked to Lou about it and he was happy to explain they understand it can't always be replicated when it's in for service but know the VE front end knock can be the strut top, the suspension bushes or the engine mounts. So they'd start with replacing the engine mounts as that seems to be the most common cause.

Got a call later that day - they hadn't finished the replacement of the steering column so could they have the car overnight? Yup - fine by me. I'd rather it done properly than rushed. Loan VE SV6 auto was decent enough. Picked it up the next day, new steering column but the engine mounts had to be ordered. I'd also mentioned a larger than normal looking gap around the cup holders which they agreed the plastic surround had warped so that was ordered too and rebooked for a week later (yesterday). On the way home, I noticed the alignment Bob Jane had done (across the road from GS Holden) was OK but the wheel wasn't 100% straight. When I got home I also checked the steering, full lock to full lock. Surprisingly I had more lock to the right than to the left. Rang Lou and he told me to bring it straight back in the next day, apologising profusely. I don't mind - it's not overly inconvenient for me to go to and from my dealer and they're happy to give me a VE SV6 to drive while my car's there. I'd rather have everything sorted on the car properly. So they fixed the steering back to even lock left and right, had the Bob Jane boys redo the alignment and all was good. They didn't even mind that I supplied my own alignment specs from another steering/suspension workshop that adjusted the camber a bit for me. Just gave them the print out and they set it how I like it.

Dropped it off yesterday for the engine mounts and plastic surround for the cup holders to be fitted. Got the call they didn't get it all done and wanted it overnight (last night) to finish it today. Yup! Fine by me. Getting used to driving the purple SV6 auto although I don't miss owning a 195 Alloytec slusher :p

Got a call around lunch time today, went and picked it up, all sorted. All happy, both them and me. Smiles all round. It's so much easier when everyone's happy and it's easy to talk about everything that's getting done.

Oh, I should also mention they re-adjusted the front bumper to try and fix the sag (gap between grill and bumper). It's better, but they even acknowledge it's bigger than the new ones on the showroom floor. They're going to talk to HSV as they agree they shouldn't sag in a year! It's not a major drama for me - if anything it means the OTRCAI gets more air. :) Oh, they love the ORSSOM OTRCAI too. Recently I had the front bumper fully repaired and resprayed too, to fix gutter rash etc from the previous owner. When I notice some new scratches when picking the car up they promptly had one of the paint/panel shops in Belconnen fix it. Would have been on their driveway when they test drove it. It's not a big deal, I'll probably scratch it myself at some point but I'd just had it redone so they sorted that out too!

All up, one extremely satisfied customer. Sure, I've had to go to the dealer a few times but I would be anyway for regular servicing. And I get the VE SV6 loan car so I don't mind. It's more convenient that when the car's off the road for mods (exhaust, tune, window tint, etc).

So bottom line, Lou and Rob (and the techs that work on my car) at Gerald Slaven Holden in Belconnen ACT are great blokes, treat me well and treat my car well. I'll keep going back to them and would recommend them to ANYONE!

Sounds like you have the maturity of a 10 year old! They're not wankers... Why try and turn something possitive into a negative?

Thats very nasty.

I was getting sick of having to take my car to an Adelaide dealership and things not fixed properly etc etc. My bro-in-law has a VE R8 and has gone back a couple of times for things and they bend over backwards for him and even give him a free loan car when he leaves it ther. I am wondering if dealerships look after their HSV customers more than the pov SS owners or not. I get along with most of the staff there, its just that they seem to inconvenience me more often than not.
Surely they treat all of their customers as equals and dont favour the ones with the big $$$. Maybe they do.

Good to see your problems got sorted with a minimum of fuss, or no fuss at all.

Oh, they love the ORSSOM OTRCAI too.

Until you take a stuffed motor into them and claim warranty.

All of the things you described, would and should have been covered by warranty because none of them can be attributed to modifications that you have made to the vehicle , so that the dealer has not done anything extraordinary..they have just done their job.

What is extraordinary, is that many folk are used to less than acceptable service from some dealers and so when we strike a dealer who is 'doing their job' it seems as over the top customer service.

I haven't removed the MAF sensor so the intake still has nothing to do with the motor.

When my mate Aaron was warranty manager at GSH I didn't mind taking the wagon there for claims. I haven't even taken it back for recalls since as I don't want them touching my car. It's ridiculous that you can't book in for a specific time to do a 5 minute job. Rather you have to drop your car off at 8am and pickup at 5pm. In the meantime it's parked in a carpark that's overflowing with cars parked so close together it's not funny and whenever it has been there all the apprentices come out drooling all over it. Whilst it's nice to have your ride appreciated, I don't like the idea of what's going on with it whilst it's out of my view. I'd rather pay for minor things to get fixed by my preferred mechanic that claim under warranty - major things of course I'd go to the dealer.

A lot of the staff at GSH have changed over the last 6 months. The new guys that have been brough in are cleaning it up. If it's a 5 minute job, I just go in and wait first thing in the morning. Needed the new mirror fitted when a truck clipped mine and ripped the glass out of it.

Got there at 7:30am and was leaving by 8am. If you know it's a small job, wait around. If it's not a small job, they send an SMS to you when your car is ready to be picked up.

I know how shit the service used to be at GSH, but they're definitely digging themselves out of the whole at the moment. Well, that's my experience anyway. Best thing they did was get rid of Joe (the old service manager). He didn't give a rats arse about ANYTHING!

its not what you know, its who you know.

Seems the people getting their cars fixed properly know the manager on some level.

the rest of us get a half arsed job for the same price.

Geeze I have the same clicking problem with the steering wheel, when you rotate it through a certain point it clicks. Can only notice it at low speed.

It only started recently and is intermittent.

The whole steering column needs to be replaced? - Great! Look forward to that adventure.

Cheers
Deacs.

That's good to hear CSP, but seeing as I no longer need Holden for anything (car out of warranty) I won't be going back unti if/when I buy another new car. Hopefully they keep up the good service and provide the same level to everyone.

Hey guys,

I thought I'd add my 2 cents worth as well on their good service.

I have been dealing with GSH for over 8 years now. In the beginning I have run into some 'I am not interested' service advisors but they generally didn't last to long. For the majority of the time (especially now) I have received nothing but top service.

No issue is ever to big or a hassel. I am probably more paitent than most people, I will always where I can ask them to book me in when it's convieniant for them. If its a busy week I'll wait (probably a good thing). I have even gone in off the street un anounced (no booking) and said I have a problem and they have looked at it right then, sometimes even completed the fix and sent me on my way. I am a big believer in giving service areas a chance to get it right (unless its a major F UP) even then I'll reserve judgement until I know the final outcome. If it doesnt cost me than all the better.

My last SS was bought at GSH and had always been serviced by them till I traded it. The old girl have a few issues over the years but they were always prepared to assist in satisfying my needs. My wife tells me I am to fussy about cars and was supprised they actually went to the extremes they did at times. But I beleive that if you are polite, calm and treat people with respect then people will respond.

I was told when you have your car serviced by the dealer you buy your car from you will receive better service. This maybe true with some car dealers. When I bought my wife a VY sedan a few years ago from NSW I mentioned that I wanted to bring the car to GHS for service and it was not an issue, infact they did the safty inspection for change of rego and found a few things that required fixing. All was completed and charged as 'warrenty work' can't complain about that. Top service.

When I bought my SSV I when to Sydney as I couldnt get what I wanted here. I asked them how they would feel about providing me with the same level of service? there was not an issue and said that they even said when you find one you like give us the details and we'll check it out for you before you buy it. They said I would continue to be serviced just the same. To date I have and continue to receive top service on the new car.

I have heaps of stories to tell about the positives but I thought it was worth mentioning my support and recommendation.

I know there are alot of people out there that have received some ordinary customer service from Holden and other dealerships (I know as I have been on the receiving end). Wait till you get called a lier to you face (another Holden Dealer in Canberra) when trying to resolve a mechanical issue that shouldnt be there. That will test anyones paitents.

Anyway thats enough from me, I probably put in 2 dollars worth....

Cheers
Phil

P.S. sorry for any typos....
