8.6L / 100 - Great Economy Post Tune - VE SS.

I finally got a chance to do my own little "relative" economy test on a recent trip from Canberra to Sydney and Back.

Prior to my tune the best I would get was around 9.3/9.4L/ 100 on the way to Sydney and back.

I'm happy to say that last week on the way up I managed to maintain 8.6L and even at one stage dipped to 8.5L/ 100. On the way home (uphill) I creeped up to 9.0L.

All this cruising at around 115.. and even givinig it some WOT using the freeway on ramp 0-110 test.

Mods are OTR CAI, mail order tune (MAFless) from Dan at Chipmaster. In both tests I was using a full tank of Caltex Vortex 98., myself in the car and a light load of luggage - majority of the way in 6th.

What better way to justify a tune and 6.0L V8 to the minister for War and Finance :)

Nicely done. Best I've ever seen on that trip was 8.8l/100km (my car is untuned) on the way to Sydney, but can only ever get into the mid-9s on the way back because of the uphill element.

I've had my cammed VE down to 9.0 l / 100km, damn good thing on long runs they love their legs stretched :bow:

I to reguarly see my VE SS M6 in the mid 8's going to sydney from Goulburn.
Best I've seen it was 8.3L/100km from memory. Mods are full exhaust, OTRCAI and Maf tuned.

I've also seen my Dads SSV ute A6 down as low as 7.9L/100km stock as a rock!!!


I was sitting on 112km/h in both cars when seeing the above figures. This also was straight after filling up and south Goulburn and getting straight on the freeway

My Dad recently drove my car from Yorkeys Knob (north of Cairns) in QLD to Whyalla in SA. Car is a WK Statesman, about a 23? grind cam (secret grind I'm unaware of) 3000rpm stallie, OTRCAI, full exhaust, 3.9 diff gears, 282rwkw.

Here's his calculations:

Just did a calc re litres/100km, from Innisfail (South) to Broken Hill.
(Using fill up to fill up) 2625km used 294.82 litres, my calc 11.23L/100km.

The whole trip was 3209km, Yorkeys to Whyalla.


Seeing as I was paying for it that's not too bad.:nyuk:
