anyone bent their tie down points yet?

my middle one is now parralel with the ground, after my first trip with my dirtbike in the back, and i cant believe how little pressure was on.... maybe 1cm of compression in my forks...

could it be faulty? or have i just pulled it a funny angle? cos the other one i had the bike attached to is fine....???

also, would love to know how you guys are strapping your bikes in, so to avoid the front tyre scratching the painted panel at the front of the tray?

cheers, adam

I have the factory added tie down rails, which would pull down to the floor of the tray. good option but around 350 from memory. I wouldn't trust the factory ones

Yep mine lasted about five minutes, IMO the brackets should be upside down so the angle of the tie down matches the angle of the strap, or holden should realise that a ute needs strong tie down points.

yeh ok, ill get a pic up tommorow when its light... upside down is a good idea i wonder if i cant turn em around.... ill have a go at that too.

i had my bike in on the diagonal like that, front tyre in left front of tray, but had one tie down on the front right hook, and one on the middle left, its the middle left that bent.

At least you VE guys have semi-decent tie downs, I reckon a 6 year old on valium could bend the tie downs in my VZ! Whatever engineer at Holden designed tie downs that face DOWN needs their pay grade halved.

These are mine. She aint no VE but you get the idea. They sit adjacent to the wheel arches. Work an absolute treat with decent tie downs.

Got the same problem. I found if you pull down less on the front and use a set on the rear of the bike they work fine. Although only good for one bike in the ute.

you can get hooks that lay down flush and swing up when you want to use them

had a look, today, they are secured in place with a single multypoint star head bolt, if that makes sense, so i cant change em around ot point upwards... im thinking they are designed to bend, as with only one bolt holding them on there weak as F*** and really not up to the job at all....

will ring my dealer i reckon and ask them to change them upside down for me.... see how i go with that.

The bolt is a T50 (Torx) bolt, the brackets cant be turned upside down as they have a locator pin stopping the bracket turning, this would have to be ground off

maybe get some after-market tie downs and bolt them into the existing holes?
