Hi guys i currently own a WH statesman and i have been looking into this auto dimming rear view interior mirror that came out on the WH caprice model, or just by holden in general.
Can anyone advise me what is involved in installing one of these mirrors, i know that their are i think 2 cables but what are those cables? power? or something else, also has anyone installed one of these before on a wh statesman?

You may be able to purchase a self-dimming kit from Holden themselves, and the wiring loom required to run it. Otherwise, try nvu.com.au - they sometimes have the HSV self-dimming mirrors.
There is a thread on the HSV mirrors on here somewhere, where blokes sourced new mirrors from the US at very reasonable prices.
Search for 'Electrochromatic mirror'
EDIT - here it is: Australian LS1 and Holden Forums (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=95551)
Cheers,

You can pick up a caprice one form holden for around the $160 mark I think.
Has autodimming and that's about it. For the same price I got a autodimming, maplights, compas and temp sensor all in the one mirror that looks exactly like a OEM replacement.
My car already had all the wiring so it was a simple plug and play option for me(except for running the temp sensor)
It's pretty simple to wire up if you have the know how otherwise any auto sparky or audio installer type mob should be able to do it.

thanks very much for the replies guys, i have managed to read all post from LS1GRANGE and that mirror looks good. how is that temp sensor going? is it worth putting inside or outside, i think it may be pointless putting it outside my statesman has that feature already

the temp sensor is going pretty good. I've moved it a few times to see if it will give a more accurate cabin temp as well as keeping it hidden. It's pretty accurate to what you set the Climate control too. Others have suggest placing it in the engine bay. In the airbox or something or somewhere else where you'd like to see the temperature. Depends what floats ya boat I guess.
But yeah, mirror and temp sensor travelling very nicely atm.

oh ok cool, yea that isnt a bad idea in the engine bay, like that you can monitor anything out of the ordinary :)
you mentioned that they dont ship to australia :( is that true cause if it is then i cant get this product at all as i dont know anyone in the states.

Although an electric butt massager would be more useful.. :1peek:
just kidding, sort of. would be nice to have one of those 12volt chair type massage things for long trips. been thinking about one each time i see one in adds. rather spend the money on one of those.

I have the same mirror as LS1Grange. Let me tell you they are of alot higher quality than the OEM HSV/Caprice one. My OEM one decided to shit itself when it got a little hot in the cabin and left a pool of LCD fluid at the bottom (its very common). The new model won't do that as its a solid polymer film.
I actually bought 2 mirrors when I had my issue. 1 OEM style one from a guy in the US for $40 that looked brand new. And 1 of the new ones.. I actually sold the OEM style one for quite a bit more money than what I payed for it as you can't get them from Holden any more (lol it paid for the new one).
Here is a link to the install of my one. I use the temp sensor on the outside of the car and have proven that its more accurate that the Climate Control one as it doesn't get heat soaked as easily being that its in more direct airflow.
