Now, I know most will probably disagree with me here, but I think 22's look horrible on VE's. Actually, I think 22s look horrible on any car. They make a car look like something a child draws in primary school! Anyway I'll step off the :soap: now and wait the barrage.

Naah i agree mate,
Perhaps in time i'll like the look of 22's, but for now, i personally think 20's are as big as you wanna go.

Well,
Everybodys opinion is different some people like 22's where as you dont.
Some people will think your a moron for getting an SS V over an SS.
Some people will take offence to your thread...
Thread should of been a discussion opening rather than just a full on open rant.. putting people down who may have 22's on their VE.. personally i think it depends what style of the 22 they are.
Nomination for most useless thread of '08.

I agree. I haven't seen any VEs on 22s so I can't comment specifically, but there is such a thing as wheels that are too big...
...especially if they're playa bling chromies.

Who would say an SSV isn't worth buying over an SS?
I hope it's not the same people that spend bucketloads on V6s and then decide they want a V8? :o

Plenty,
Technically the SSV is slower than the SS, I know a few senior members on here who have the same opinion on the extra money spent :jester:
What does me spending my money on my v6 concern you??
Just because i can afford to do it, :goodjob: :lmao:
And, if your not currently aware the laws in Victoria prohibit me from having a V8 whilst on my P Plates..
Thing is buddy, you shouldnt open something up flat out putting people down because your opinion doesnt match.
Some 22's can look good on the VE's because the wheel wells are so damn massive.

I think I'd have trouble coming to terms with the cost of decent rubber before I worried about how they'd look. I've never really understood getting wheels of this size and then fitting some generic brand of tyre. All comes down to how much you're willing to throw at it I guess but once you get to this size, it's pretty much all about looks rather than performance.

I never intended to point the finger directly at you mate.
"Technically the SSV is slower than the SS" -- so that must mean the HSVs are even slower?
Besides, if you can get an SSV for less than what someone else pays for an SS then why not? :)
I'm actually surprised you bought the car you did, I was under the impression they weren't very safe..

The VE SV6 is very safe, twice the car that the VY S was. Just saying, shouldnt outright put someone down for no reason, there could be people on here with 22's that are very happy, *See above post*

I also agree they look like sh!t.
Besides putting up with a pounding ride and almost guaranteed rim damage, not to mention needing a loan for tyres, pretty much everyone bar much of the bling crowd or the doof doof crowd think you're trying to make up for a lack of size somewhere else!

C'mon, why shouldn't people be allowed to voice their opinion on something like this, just because a few people with prickly states of mind might get a wee bit upset? He has posted it in the correct General section, which invites discussion on subjects of a non-technical nature. He posted his thoughts up as he's entitled, and now all of you have the chance to either agree or disagree! It becomes a sh!tfight when people starting getting abusive.
Some people are sooooo obsessed with their cars, they just can't take any criticism of something they like themselves! Any at all.

Personally I like the 22's on the Ve's but wouldn't want the ride and some 20's look too small....21's would be just right.
I will more than likely stick with the 20's and preserve some of the ride.

I dont mind the 20s or 22's.
At the end of the day it depends if you are after more looks than ride quality or vice versa.
I think that some 22's looks great on the VE yet some look absolutley shithouse, all depends on the stlye.
For myself personally, a set of VE GTS 20's work well and no one can say that deans SSV needs bigger rims for it to look hot :goodjob:
20's with wide rears still looks awsome.
Wonky
01-09-2008, 02:26 AM
Personally I think most 22s look too big but to each his own. No doubt some people hate my rims but I like them and that's all that matters. With 20"x10" rims with 275 tyres on the back and 330mm from centre of rim to wheel arch mine fills out the guards very nicely! In fact, too nicely now that I've put the Monroe GT short shocks on it as it now keeps scraping the tyres on the rear even though the guards are rolled. Am going to have to lift it now...... :(

i think 22 look great on a ve, 20`s look a little small on the bigger ve. a friend of mine has 22 x 10`s with 295 rears, looks bloody awsome!!
i think on the newer commodores that bigger rims look better,iv got 20`s on my vx ss, it did rub and all that at first but with a bit of work to the guards they fit in no worrys now!, im also a oldskool fan and im running 15 inch rims on my hz tonner, i would never go any bigger, old cars with big rims look like crap, it just doesnt look right!!

I contemplated the 22s for the new ute for ages, but I just couldnt do it. Yes they fit, but they look very ordinary. I have 22 inch Kahns on my Range Rover, and they are perfect. 20s on it look small, 24s look too big.
Same with the ute. You have to get it just right. Thats why I ordered a set of Intro Showwheels:- 20 x 8.5 and 20 x 10s for the back. I get them in 4 weeks, and I think they will be the perfect blend of style, functionaity and looks. Plus, I wanted the car to look fat and low, not jacked up on 4WD sized rims.
Cheers.

Pretty happy with 20's on mine for now.I did look at 22's, exactly the same ones that are on the other black ute but decided against it. Kinda happy I did now, they aren't a bad looking wheel but seems like every man and his dog has them now and I still have an issue with the whole fewly schick chromies thing. I think that if your walking out to your car in the morning and it makes you smile just looking at it who gives a s##t what anyone else thinks?

I think it depends on the style of the wheel for the VE. (all those Verdes look a little bling but still suit the style of the vehicle)
I really dislike the 4WD's getting around with chrome 24"-26" rims. There is a black Hummer H3 down the road from work with 26" rims and he even put a 26" chrome badge on the guard !! (just to let everyone know that didn't see the big oversized wheels in the first place - very HotWheels looking IMO)

To some people, those big chrome blingey 22's look PHAT (to quote).
To others, they show a total lack of class from an owner screaming out for any attention they can get.

mate im well under 25 and a fan of 15 inch rims!!!!
i personaly think it depends on the style of car that they are on. 22`s look the goods on the ve, but are too much for the vz and down. 20`z are more than enough for the older commodores. vb to vp look good with 19`s, any earlyer and its 15`s or some kind of custom billet rim!!!
i know a lot of younger blokes arnt into the oldskool but i personaly try to get into all areas of the car scene, old skool it the best, but only with big cubes and small rims!!!
there is nothing tuffer than a set of convos, or prostars with 3 inch wide fronts and 10 or more inches wide on the rear of any car. i think a lancer with that rim/tyre como could look tuff!!!

VEGTS- They look hot!!
I was putting on 22's on my maloo but the ones i had orderd in didnt fit over the callipers...
Thats the biggest problem with the VE's finding decent rims that you like to fit over.
Heres my maloo with 24's on front and 20's on back. The ones on the front were what i had ordered in.

Hmmm not a fan of that red clubby, got a bot going on that one. 24" wheels on a maloo eh? Really going the whole look at me deal, still going with the sticker?
I think 22s can look great in the right application and type of wheel. Thats why this R8 looks tuff.

That Clubby is dead set sex on wheels. :6bow::6bow::6bow: Makes me want to sell up my Monaro and grab a VE HSV. Noooooooooo!
Does anyone know the brand of the wheels. I wouldn't mind checking out some 20 inch variants on the Mrs' next car - Calais V Sportwagon.

IMHO the red GTS looks terrible with those wheels, the original rims would suit its look better. 1 vote for 20"rims.
But then you look at the black clubby with 22's, and its looks farken hot as, more pics of that ride please!!!!

Yep, I agree Jim. I think that Clubsport was for sale on carsales at some point, from the Goldcoast I think. I was interested in buying it I loved it that much.
But in saying that, I think 20s are the best compromise between looks and comfort for the VEs. A really tasteful set of 22s would be great but for me driving on country roads I am sure it would end in tears.

Im glad you dont like them, means less people will want to put them on there car, i for one hate driving around having the same rims as everyone else, hence why i hate having the GTS rims on it!
However if you read above they are not going on as they do not fit.

I think it all comes down to ride height. If your driving on 22s, then u have to have it tucking (or bloody close to it).... If its looking like a 4x4 then the wheels just dont fit right.
Perfect example. Tucking looks hot, looks like wrong offset on the rear and too high equals - Fail.

I think 22"s look good in their own way weirdly enough, provided its not a crap wheel to start with :) Verde madonnas look terrific in 22"s, i rekon 21"s even though they are rare as would be the right size for the commodores. I think 20" tyres are too expensive at 800 + for a DECENT tyre even though i got them, but id hate to imagine what people pay for 22"!!! Theyd have to be more than what most people earn a week hahaha, ahh the pain.
Hrt8 your ute looks insanely nice :) If i hadnt got green i would have got silver with the red dash, seats n mats, n put a set of black centre chrome lip wheels too.

I think those rims are nice... BUT I would prefer to see the chrome ring as a solid circle, I like the tall star.
Personally, I really do not like the rims on the black clubby, or a lot of the 20+ rims. In saying that, HSV and Holden really do design some nice wheels now, and to top that is hard, so instead of imitating, wheel companies are actually innovating to save their lives.
IMHO I reckon that a large car like the VE needs a nice light, tall rim to break up the look, but not as solid as most of these 20+ rims seem to be. Personally I think the SuperSports are great, and I'd love them on my Monaro

I must have misread your post. It sounded like you were saying you had ordered in 24's like your pic because the 22's didn't fit. Personally I think they look like total Dub City or Hotwheels model car wheels. I'm a fan of rims on performance Holdens looking like they belong on an exotic supercar or race car; not your sister's Hyundai or her boyfriend's Silvia. I'm glad you're happy :eeew:

That black Clubby is pure sex. I just want one.
20+ inch wheels tend to suit late model Commodore better IMO due to being much bigger cars. It's when they're put on VB-VLs they look kind of stupid.
Personally I would never go any more than 19s on my VL. Although I was looking into VE GTS 20s for it.

Well,
Everybodys opinion is different some people like 22's where as you dont.
:goodjob:
Dave
The above post is my nomination for most pathetic post of 2008.
Donning flame suit....
