Hi fellas, just wondering from people experience if ceramic coating headers are a must? What are the advantages compared to not having them coated and if it's just being used on the street will there be any NOTICEABLE benefits?
Thanks guys, Open to any comments.

The advantage is less heatsoak, as the heat from the exhaust gases is transferred out the exhaust, with a much reduced amount of radiation from the extractors and thus, there is lower heat transfer into the engine bay. It does work.

also the ceramic coated ones will last longer as they do not rust.
and they look 5 times better

Ah, it's only money mate - trust me, we've all spent too much on these things, but the smiles every time you drive are well worth it!

for N/A its sort of pointless unless its serious track car i reakon,
but turbo manifolds are worth the extra $400, those things glow red from being so thin, there have been cases of the pipes melting things close to the pipes, and causing fires
me and my dad have pacies 1 3/4 mild steels and my mum has the ceramic coated pair, all about the same age and from daily driving the ceramic ones look horrible from under the car where the stones ect have chipped it of and showing little rust spots and from the engine bay they dont look to flash, where as the blue pacies damage dont stand out and look as good as the day i got them
unsure of and gains from either of the two...... her steering rack boots havent burnt through like mine though....

last set of blue pacies i saw up on the hoist at home were destroyed... every set i've seen have paint burnt off all over the place and look like dogs balls...
my coated pacies are great... the under side just before the cats is starting to lose its 'chrome' looking shine but its only dulling off... up in the engine bay they still look fantastic...
but, you don't buy just for the look...
the advantages are there, and proven, and worth the extra coin i'd say...
easier to on-sell too when you want to upgrade to bigger pipes...

Thanks for all the help guys

definately money well spent. if looked after properly they stay nice for a long time.
they work really well at cutting engine bay heat. when i got mine fitted i drove home (300km) and went straight to a mates place to show it off and within 10 min you could grab the pipes!!! try that with non coated ones and see how you go.
the only draw back is that you will want them to stay shiny all the time

ceramic coat worth the money
got mine done and engine bay heat greatly reduced like all said..and can touch pipes not long after car shutdown...
also look great
i just gotta figure out how to keep them shiny all the time

Ive got ceramic coating and heat wrap.
Would it be worth taking off the wrap?
Dont have any heat shields for the power steering n what not which is the main reasoning for leaving them on but if others reckon they wont damage anything I would be keen to cut it off so I can see the lovelyness more:)

Ceramic coating all the way.. Only issue is when plastic or oil gets burnt into it!! It shows up big time..
Especially on good turbo engines, hardly any need for heat shields..

One of the best things ive done to my car is get the headers coated.. its cooler under there now with all the mods than what it was when it was standard.. Good thing to have done for summer to :D

Yep have to agree... work great.
I can sit in the car with the window down at say traffic lights, and feel waves of heat emitting out the side of the car (which is where the ceramic meets the CATS etc and escapes)

I've sent some of my pipes away to be HPC - coated, results will be interesting, I will be posting more photos once I get them back.

Ceramic coating your headers is a must. The heat reduction is huge, and as stated heaps already, it looks excellent once done. I have had a few sets done by HPC over the last 5-6 years and have never had any issues. You'll be glad you did.

I'm sending my paccies off to get done now, just seeing those shots Luke can understand the benefits. The internals are as smooth as also allowing better scavenging of exhaust gas.

I had my pacemaker tri-y's done awhile ago. http://web.aanet.com.au/~sirnemesis/Statesman/DSC02979.JPG
Came out great! Well worth the money for looks alone. The reduction in engine bay temps is a bonus aswell.

Its pretty amazing stuff. Highmount VL's its almost mandatory with the small rears they run on largish turbos. Ive seen paint on bonnets catch on fire after being silly for extended periods of time.
Usually coat the rear of the turbo, the dump pipe to cat. Works wonders nothing melts and its easy to work on a hottish car.

Hey guys,
Just curious about ceramic coating stainless steel? coz one of my mates is selling his full xforce stainless steel exhaust off his vz ss ute and i was thinking bout chucking it on my vx ss since he only wants it for 100 bucks being only 6months old but anyways he said i should get them coated because the heat transfer from the headers is huge and something about having heat problems etc. has anyone got there stainless steel coated to prevent the heat?
Cheers chris

Wont fit on your VX SS unless you get it shortened.
Stainless works fine.

Jase, when I bought my D/F 4-1s, they charged $240 for the HPC coating. I would imagine that $300 tops would do it.

Paid $380 at Competition Coatings at Guildford in Sydney March 2008 for my Pacemaker Try-ys for the pair to be ceramic coated & well worth it, the reduced temp under the bonnet in the long run is going to keep a lot of the wiring & plastic fittings looking like new & every time I open the bonnet the coating on the extractors looks like polished alloy instead of rust.

I had manifolds, extensions, heat sheilds, and dump pipes all coated at competition coatings for $550, looks great. Even after giving car a flogging pipes can be touched pratically straight away !

Apart from the under bonnet temp gains, is there any noticeable performance gains in rwhp?

There would be gains to be made in the tune as the intake temps would be reduced somewhat. Timing could be increased a knotch.
Also I have just received a price from Pacemaker and they will coat my extractors for $330, I thought that was quite reasonable, has anyone got better?

Well you cant do the cats or the mufflers so I would'nt think doing anything other than manifolds/headers/extractors/intakes beneficial.
I was contemplating getting the Xforce 4-1's in stainless... can I still get them coated? Or should i just get the Pacemakers that are CC from Pacemaker and be done with it?

If you are going to get them coated it probably dont matter so much what material they are constructed from, so I'd go the low cost option.
