Could someone just answer probably a simple question.

When you follow the pipe out of the airbox, there is a sensor just there. I thought this was the air sensor. So what is the sensor that is plugged into the air 'resonator' ?

The sensor in the pipe is the air temp sensor, and by 'resonator' a guess you mean the MAF or Mass Air Flow unit, which is the square component in the intake just after the airbox. As the name suggests, measures the amount of air being consumed by the motor :)

This was one post I read that referred to it as the resonator in order to quiten it down.

So I am confused. If you used a CAI box and put the first sensor back on and then put a new pipe into the engine, waht happesn to the next sensor connection (the one plugges into the rear of the resonator)

I'll see if I can explain it with a picture. It's on a Walkie improved car but the question is still relevant

'1' indicates the plug at the back of the resonator
'2' indicates roughly the air flow sensor.

So if the 'black box' was removed and replaced with a free flowing pipe from '2' up to the throttle, what happens to the '2' plug?

Number 1 isn't an air sensor it's a breather . No 2 is the maf wiring that is also where you air temp sensor is. Unless Walkinshaws have set it up a bit different.

The photo is similar to mine (without a blower :bawl:) but number 1 is definately the same and it is a plug with a flexible pipe on it that to me looks like it plugs onto right hand side fuel rail.

I'll take some photos when I get home to see if I can explain it more.

Ok, some photos to explain it

Plug just after airbox

Plug at rear of resonator and hose tailing off

Hose in red is the one from the resonator

This is a blow up of what the hose runs into (the grey connector is the one from the hose)

Does anyone have comment

The plug just after airbox = airflow meter with integrated intake air temp sensor.

The other line is part of the crank case ventilation (PCV) system feeding from the drivers side rocker cover to the intake pipe.

I think it's the "fresh air" feed for the throttle body.

Nothings changed since I answered this mate.

Number 1 is just a breather that goes into your rocker cover and #2 is still the maff plug and your IAT is incorporated into that.

Cheers

Sorry mate. Just wasn't sure if I had explained myself. I know that when you put on a OTR that the MAF is removed and therefore you need a tune. But what happens to the breather if you just used a CAI and retained the MAF but got rid of the resonator by replacing it with a pipe from the MAF?

Mate if u wanna know where that cable is suppose to be going?? then all u do is when u install the y pipe at the back there is a port to plug it into... u will need to replace that piece with the vaccum hose that comes with it, if u dont have one u can u get one from auto 1 or something repco etc.
the y pipe acts and functions exactly like that box thingy ur removing.

just remember u need to switch the hose to a vacuum hose the stock one won't fit hope this helps :)
