Just thought I would post a biiiig thank you to Chipmaster and their VE air con belt fix
By way of background:
I have thrown the A/C belt on mine about 20 times since the power mods and 25% UD went in. Actually broke/shredded eight AC belts (plus lost three as they fell to the road somehow and lost) and also broke two Main Drive belts (occurs as the AC flipped the main off due to the forces - one was at high speed - oh sheit factor of 9.5 lol).
It was costing me a fortune in replacement belts and downright dangerous at times
I got the Chipmaster fix sent over to BEST Performance in Brisbane to be fitted. Unfortunately the day after I had it fitted, I totally blew the A6 in the Calais, and has been off road and out of action for three weeks in total hence couldn't provide feedback on its success or otherwise at the time.
:)
Well the fix has been in for quite a whilse now and I have run the car hard under track and street conditions as well as daily driver. The Verdict imho is:
Hellealulia, it works. Not one bit of problem with AC belt whatsoever since fitting.
Ha, I don't even carry the 3 x spare air con belts in the boot that I used to lol.
Thanks Delco/Chipmaster :) :goodjob:

Is it ok to ask what the fix is and how much it costs etc?
Thanks,
Alex

good to hear CalaisRider
i was one of the earlier ones with NA running this fix after my UDP, Cam, etc install and its flawless after 15,000km of daily duties, track duties, etc
had belts come off, go missing etc...not fun putting one on with a hot engine

As you know Macca I'm no mechanic of any sort but the fix is an additional pulley. There are even dummy bolt holes on the engine where I reken the previous models had a similar pulley located.
I'm assuming it not only adds tension, alters the angles of the belt and creates an additional guide; but also prevents the harmonics occuring with the belt as you get on and off the throttle. Sure as eggs works a treat though.
The fitting is a real simple job.

Well no pics will be forthcoming on my part mate - too hard basket and why would I bother. I spied Delco's thread on this topic way back when and was where I followed through; hence DO A SEARCH of the forum if ya want pics (as they are there).
If your not happy with this response go find another "Thread" that "is useful" to you as there are plenty to choose from on the forum.
I'm a happy and totally satisfied customer on this particular topic and don't care what others do as this ain't some competition between the performance shop groupies thing!!!! Its in the main, its positive feedback to Delco and thats all it is.
Simple fact is that I source around lotsa shops for whats out there to do the job I want done. That way its "my" car / my project; and not a specific performance shop car advertisement.

I fixed mine and I didn't have to change the idler setup.. I threw off about 5 belts.. ended up leaving the aircon off for awhile untill we worked out the fix.

Haven't powerbond built an new and improved U/D pulley that rectifies this. I remember mentioning it in a previous thread and a number of people reckoned there was no problems!!!!!!!! I thought Powerbond would be right!!!!!!!!!

I've got a SLP UDP and it actually has more groves than the belt has, so its easy to misalign the belt when installing.
I have ordered the new idler to be on the safe side.

Powerbond have released a new improved UDP for the VE recently.
I had my old one replaced with the new version last month after a few AC belts came off.

Ditto...
I had the Powerbond 25% UD pulley fitted at Chevs at the end of last year. It threw the AC belt about five times in the first two weeks.
After speaking to a few people in the trade we found Powerbond had a manufacturing issue with the pulleys and that the lip was not high enough to keep the belts on.
Luckily the replacement one was already available so it was only a couple of days till we could fix it.

that's BS. The new powerbond balancer was a collaboration to try and slow the compressor down and try and stop some of the over run that flips the belt off...works a treat. In recent time Holden in all their wisdom, has finally done a recall and fitted double idler brackets to those that are having issues...why they eliminated the dual idler set up in the beginning when all the pre VE cars had them beats me....

They put the new setup on a customers VE TT GTS, but that is the only case myself and another workshop here have ever seen with VE's throwing belts including mine and I turn it to 8000rpm with a powerbond underdrive on it.

Thats correct they slow the compressor down more for those who love to rev there engine lol, definately works to also reduce the speed of the compressor.

makes you wonder why Holden would bother to engineer a fix and put out a service bulletin if the problem was so isolated.............
