Guys, the Monroe Shortened shocks have been out for awhile now, who has fitted them ? Are you happy with the handling? Other than Coilovers, has anyone else come up with shortened shocks?

Hi chook. Sorry, not trying to be an ar$e but am too tired to repeat what I've already put in Australian LS1 and Holden Forums (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=104020). Basically, to sum up - handles better but also bottoms out more readily. Can't remember bottoming with standard shocks but have once or twice (at the front) since the Monroes went in.

Have also had issues with scraping rear tyres but that's because I have 20x10 rmis on the rear with 275s on and the back is much lower than it should be with King SSLs (330mm centre of rim to wheel arch instead of 360mm). I complained through the place I bought them from and Kings are sending me some new ones. Will be interesting to see how they go if ever they get here (mistakenly went to WA and TNT the useless $&*@!s don't seem to have sent them back again yet in a week! :vpo:).

The valving of the GT shock seems to be similar to factory, with less up travel, meaning more bump stop hitting .

Thanks wonky, so it would seem that the monroes are not the answer then, has any other manufacturer decided to do a short shock?

Biltein,

with more than one circlip groove for spring seat height also.

We did, with Bilstein.

To make new they are dear, but they work extremely well, I am yet to try a set up which works better in VE, in my opinion. [and suspension is what we do]

The coils are lowered Eibachs, 20mm lower than HSV, the struts have 3 position circlip grooves, and internal bump stops in the shocks, to add a rising spring rate on compression, [sort of like they do for 888 falcons] to prevent the thing "thumping" onto the bump stops.

Mine are in the classifieds section at the moment. [page 2]

I havent realised till now that there's some short shocks out for the VE. Would be interested to hear more from you wonky. Have they made any difference to axel tramp? I'm fairly happy with the FE2 suspension on mine at the moment but it does suffer from axel tramp, im looking at getting a bush kit installed, but if these shocks are worth it i might look at doing it all at the same time. A future mod is 20x10's tho so it will be interesting to see how i go with scraping. Although i think the utes dont suffer as bad as the sedans. There are guys on here with 20x10's on utes without issue. The center to gaurd measurement on the rear is 370mm so it hasnt been lowered too much

Super pro bush kits go 90% of the way to curing it with k frame and diff mounts, but not completely.

Shocks on thier own will never prevent it.

Cheers mate. I understand that it can never be 100% cured on the VE but i've definatly gotta look at getting me some of those bushes. Its honestly not a big issue as frying tyres isnt really my thing but in wet conditions the rear has a tendancy to get a bit loose and the bouncing rear just amplifies it

I have heard that a lot of the axle tramp problems on VE can be cured by fixing the rose mount fitting. I'm not familar with the whole VE suspension but apparently there is a so called "rose mount" (sp) fitting somewhere (above the diff??) and the bolt through it is not a good fit. Making it a good fit apparently has a very positive effect on axle tramp.

Hopefully someone who actually knows what they're talking about can explain it better than me! :D
