Hey all,

I had my car in to get the cruise control looked at, at my local dealer where I got the car. But there still seems to be an issue.

As you know the Cruise Control has 3 Modes,

Cruise Off (no display on centre screen)
Cruise On (System is on 'standby')
Cruise Active (Cruise Control is keeping the car at speed)

The problem I have is that some days the button at the end of the right indicator stalk does not turn the cruise controll on. When this happens (usually as im on the Freeway/Highway on-ramp) I push the button but get no respons from the cruise control module. The only way I can get the cruise control on is by turning the "Cruise Control Collar" downwards, then the cruise control turns on, and then straight into active.

If the cruise control is active if I push the button it will Change from "Active" to "On" (the same as if you hit the picks). so it doesnt seem to be a contact issue with the button. When I had it in to be looked at it had been working for 2-3 days leading up to (and the day) I dropped it off. When I picked it up they said they had re-programed the cruise control (can only belive them as they had it for the full day).

I want to get it looked at again when I get back from holiday, but was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if they got it repaired at all? Its pissing me off as the issue is only intermittent, and doing a "Self Test" via the Engineering mode doesnt seem to pick up any issues.

Cheers
Karl

Had a similar intermittent problem with my cruise and the dealer said it was the brake pedal switch that dissengages when you apply the brakes being out of adjustment, preventing it being turned on. :vpo:

Happened when vehicle was under 10,000k and once "adjusted" never did it again, so I suppose it could have been that. Vehicle sold at 85,000klm.:)
Not saying I don't believe the dealer but they could tell you anything and you'd be non the wiser unless you saw them fix it.

Yep, have to agree that it's likely to be the brake switch. Had an identical situation and a simple adjustment fixed it.

I had the same problem as you bombaman, i pressed the on button and it didnt show anything on the screen but when i pressed active it showed up on the screen and the same time this was going on the ESP was doing the same, when i pressed the button it wouldnt tell me it had been turned off when it was, it has done it twice now lasting a few weeks then it came right on its own.

Cheers guys,

any idea on how long it took them to re-adjust the brake switch? (ie is it a sit and wait, or leave for the day job)

Cheers

Had a complimentary coffee in the waiting room, all done in 15 minutes. If all problems were that easy and successfull.....

Booked in for Thursday morning, I will be the first job of the day so they better fix it. Mainly because the next morning I am heading off on holiday and dont want to drive 1,200 km without cruise control!

Cheers for the replies

Had it looked at today, all working now, it also seems that the issue with the brake switch was also causing the issues with ESC/TCS/ABC etc as they were not turning on or off.

Took about an hour, because they had to track down the bulletin, but it was also the first they have done.

All happy, now, time to drive to Exmouth tommorow morning at 3am

Hi ,

Had the same issue with my SSV checked this forum and found out about the brake pedal adjustment probable cause. I have been waiting for the 15K service to get it checked out, this happened today. When i dropped the car off I told the guy about the brake pedal issue and that I found out about it on the net. He said that it would be news to him if there was an issue with the brake pedal switch.Well he has just called to tell me the car is ready and said they did find a fault with the switch that had just come to light. Must have a short memory that guy.

Anyhow just verifiying that the issue does exist

Hi all. Just to follow up, mine still does it (SSV ute 6M Nov '07). 6 months ago CC not turning on with button, but enabling if button pressed & stalk collar turned at the same time. ESP button not working. Fixed, told it was brake sensor. Happened again today, while driving back to the Gong from Wakefield Park bike races. CC is very useful when driving on the Hume Hwy. Great car, just hate niggling issues associated with software, or minor hardware issues.

Hi all. Fixed again. Brake pedal sensor replaced-took two days though, but they did a fair job of washing it! (Wilson's, Albion Park)

Gettin' sick of this. Just had rear tyres replaced, and on way home found CC not working again-neither does trac control button. Happened last time I got tyres replaced too. Is there something very delicate that can be knocked when rear tyres are replaced, or wheel alignment done? Tyres done at Bridgestones, Wollongong-they don't look like idiots!

G'day all. Sorry this took a while, been in and out of town. As previously said, CC not responding to stalk button & trac control unresposive to button either after getting rear tyres changed. Tried turning ignition on while holding trac control button held down-lo and behold, problem solved! Been fine for 3 weeks. Must be a software issue in the BCM I guess. Anyone in the know have any clues as to why this should be so?
