:)

Hi all.

Thought I would post up another SEQ cruise EOI. Its fairly long distance but certainly has some wonderful roads, locations and scenery.

I thought 23rd November 2008 might allow people enough time to prepare - but am open to change if this doesn't suit. The next most preferrable dat for me would be 7th December...

0830 Depart Gales Maccas

Head toward Willowbank/Warwick

Turnoff the highway at Yomanto

Turn left at T and take the Ipswich Boonah Rd to Peak Crossing

Continue along this rd to Coulson. Then a right turn lollow the signs to Boonah.

From Boonah along the Boonah Rathdowney Rd to Maroon Dam

Maroon Dam (photoshoot)

Back track about 5 k and turn left at Carneys Creek Rd

Right onto Head Rd

Veer left to Spring Creek Rd

Continue through the mountain twisters to Queen Mary Falls

B.B.Q Lunch and yarn at Queen Mary Falls

Take the walk to the falls

Depart the Falls along Spring Creek Rd and heat toward Kilarney

Turn left at T and head along Border Rd

Continue to Legume and turn Left to head along the Mt Lindsay Highway through the mountains to Woodenbong.

Depart Woodenbong and into the tight and twisty stuff to Mt Lindsay; onto Palen Creek;

**** It may be worth taking a “short diversion” along Barney Rd to Barney View – for another photo shoot and to break the journey

Head back to Mt Lindsay Highway and turn left at T to continue the mountain cruise into Rathdowney

Take a break at Rathdowney

From Rathdowney, continue along the Mt Lindsay Highway to Beaudesert

With the stopovers and distance, by my previous experience at it, this is a pretty full day but certainly worth the effort.

.

Yeh or we can just chip in with various elements of the Barby. If enough end up being interested/going, I happy to buy a whole Rib Fillet, slice it and provide for the cause (pluse the salt, pepper and tomato sauce too). :)

I'm more than happy with the 7th but will seek a bit more feedback first

Yeh mate, there are few of em last time I was up that way. I'll bring some wood, firestarters and axe just in case the electric ones are taken.

Need rolls/bread and butter

*** Need some onions - gotta gave onions for a Barby.

*** Someone may be able to put up a Letuce/Tomatos on the day (not that I eat tomatos)

*** Do we want/need sausages as well?

Is there anything else we would need?:1peek:

Suppose just bring a plate and knife and fork too

If you dudes are doing nothing in particular tomorrow I'm going for a run to Morgan Park Sprints, (Bris to Gatton then onto the twisties route to Warwick). Then returning via the Queen Mary falls scenic route home.

I need to go this way to by-pass the Amberly Airshow traffic Jams

maybe for those a little opposed to the length Pete, is there anything in there can be taken out easily without detracting too much from what looks like a good run. I'm easy. Already given notice to the boss (read wife).

We might be the first cruise in the country with dual W427's. That will be cool.

Will definitely have to get the in car video holder I'm looking at now.

If this doesn't get 'em interested Pete.......

I have a car rig setup like they use on Top Gear etc for attaching Cameras to the outside of cars. Here are a few of a TRD Aurion I took last time I was out

Yeh its easy enought to shorten mate simply by heading right and going to Warwick and back down the highway to Brisbane. But to my mind that is so boring compared the original route proposed (which is a real drivers road almost throughout the entire distance).:eyes:

I am in for sure. Thanks to Adam for drawing my attention to this cruise. That's what you get when you aren't on the forum as often as I used to be in that you miss the vital information.

Have meeting up points and departure times been locked in as yet?

Hopefully I will have my new seats fitted by then and if everything goes according to plans I should have my new shipment of short aerials by then so I will bring a batch along for anyone who wants one at the discounted forum members price rather than the e-bay price.

As I have a memory like a sieve could Adam or Pete (or anyone else for that matter) please send me an e-mail reminding me the week before to aledger@bigpond.net.au

Looks like Pete is the driving force behind this cruise so is there anything I can do to help out with mate prior to the run. If there is, once again just send me an e-mail

Possibly 2 x W427’s on the run sounds pretty interesting as well. Guess us Queenslanders are leading the way yet again.

Does anyone know if our local forum sponsors have been advised of the run and invited along? It would be a good way for those newer members to get to know them and put a face to the names.

Is it advisable to pick up a cheap handheld CB radio when they are advertised on special. If so, is there a particular type that is needed?

Pete, could you please send me the proposed route, timings etc by e-mail so I can have a decent look at where we are off to.

Yep Radios would be good for chatter as much as anything

Now Pete has told me UHF and 5 watt would be best (right Pete?)

He also said 476 MHz.

My question is if you only got say 2 watt and the this 476MHz number was different would it still be alright. A cb that is 2watt is a lot cheaper than 5 watt that's all

A 2 watt will have a lesser range than the 5 watt, thats all, as long as you dont get to broken up it will do, but if you want to get serious go the 5 watt

My understanding is more watts more range so I will be going the cheaper option which should be fine in a convoy type cruise. After all, if you get seperated and out of CB range I figure you then revert to the mobile phone

Dick Smith has the 5 watt ones (Carindale). Not cheap though... But you get what you pay for like all things.

Yeh mate 2 watt is same as my spare two. They work fine but just a tad short on range if you add mountain terrain and long line of cars.

Its the 1 watt ones that are akin to two jamtins and string imho.

Just make sure its UHF - it will all be a goer once you charge the battery/s

Hey TonY I'm going to Lakeside tomorrow (Saturday 11th October); and also a Dyno Day at BEST Performance on Sunday. Come along to either or both and we can catch up, chew the fat and overview the cruise.

I have done this route 4 times now so it was nothing special to organise; but is a fantastic and challenging run.

Are these any good. I don't know what 500 mw of power equates to but they sure are cheap and supposed to have a range of 3 km and have duplex capability (don't remember what that is but was told it is good to have).

I'd be keen to work something out from here to go over with you. The first post said meeting at Gailes and I assumed that yiu just made your own way there. Southsiders, we could do a really quick meet at, say, Browns Plains Maccas. Or, even that shopping centre on the corner of Beaudesert Road and Nottingham (Calamvale Central I think) It's a 2 sec drive to the Logan motorway from either of these

Tone, no I'm sure (that area is a major cluster f... at the moment). Is that Shell still even there..... Would something at the Goodna exit be more appropriate for everyone to meet. Not sure where, just throwing out ideas.

Sorry re-looked at the start of the thread. Is it still Maccas because is therefore not Goodna Maccas? If that's the case, the exit is still fine. You come out of all the roadwork rubbish and then the exit is on the left.

Even if you don't make it mate I am prepared to meet up somewhere so you can come for a run. Best place would be at Mr Muffler so you can have a run with Brad driving and he can answer any questions you may have. Just let me know which suits you better mate

I might be able to meet Brad on Thursday 20th

Arif, I had originally told Pete I could get an awesome deal on meat for everyone so offered to do that. If we are still keen on a couple of people getting essentials and then everyone paying then it will be all good. If everyone would rather bring their own. That's cool also. I'll volunteer to be one of the meat flipprs on the barbie

Mate contact him and sort a time out. He knows my schedule pretty well. Normaly mid morning to just after lunch work best for me as I start work just before 1500. If you can't make it between those times Brad can always borrow my Ute on the way to work but as I said talk to him about it first and lock in a time

Is there anything else that needs to be bought for the BBQ. I am prepared to pick something up if needed. Also, how much per head do you think it will cost for the lunch.

I can't do any heavy lifting etc due to my back but am willing to cremate some tucker on the BBQ if required.

I can't believe that at my age I am actually excited about going for a cruise. It sounds like it will be a great day and it will be good to put faces to names. It will also a great opportunity for those who are not validated to do so.

I assume just about everyone will have their own digital camera along for the day but do we have a 'Gun' photographer coming to take some great group shots. I am in the 'put it in auto, point and shoot' category of photographer but I am sure there are some skilled camera drivers coming for the day. Anyone attending who wants to announce their claim to fame with the camera :)

For catering purposes I'd rekken so as some are aparently two and three up. Unlike me and my love for driving with no passengers to worry about or make conversation with.

I rekken if people bring their own salad and garnishing type food would be good, as its hard to carry that sorta stuff in bulk.

I know we are on an LS1 forum but to come along do you need a LS1, LS2, L76, L98, LS3, W427 etc etc.

The reason I ask is I have a mate with a V8 VL who may be interested in coming along if he is welcome. Think I know what your answer will be but as you are organising the cruise I see it as your baby and thought I would ask you.

Cheers mate

PS. Are we short on anything on the catering side of things. I'll bring a few BBQ tools but is there anything else that needs to be picked up

Nah Tony any and all Commodores and Variants are welcome. Its just a fun day... A few V6 cars are comin too which I rekken is great.

Bring your tools of cooking trade and all will be good. Wouldn't mind someone/anyone bringing some niblies such as chips, twisties, cornchips and a dip or two though.

I'm bringing enough wood for a bon fire, plus shitloads of bread and rolls and butter, plus onions. People really do need to bring their own drinks, salad stuff and garnished though. Knife and fork would probably be prudent too.

Thanks for the offer and support mate. I have never been on a cruise with so many cars - so bear with me on the day

Let me know if there is anything else you want from me.

I have got the meat ordered but the list seems to keep growing. So, I have 4kg, of beef but wondered if it was worth getting a thing of snags or do you reckon that's enough?

If anyone is looking for a UHF still, I picked this up for $76 delivered.

Awesome Callum. Canya just let me know when you know if your mate is bringing his car or not

My reason for emphasis on UHF radios is that of "safety" for all coming along on the day - things do break, and things do go wrong, and people do get lost.

I think there are different styles and manufacturers of the 'bee sting' around. I have sold over 150 of them through e-bay and the forum. I'll have some with me on the day so if anyone wants one you will be catered for. I import mine from Germany and have not had any negative feedback from customers re the reception.

I did a bit of a trial before I started testing them and when I drive from Brisbane to the Gold Coast I loose the Brisbane FM channel only a couple of km's sooner with the bee sting than I did with the OEM whip aerial and that is near Nerang. I also have no problems no the odd time I drive into the city.

Personally, I don't think the reception from the OEM aerial is that good in the first place. I think the bee stings I sell are on a par with the factory aerial but at least they look great.

Anyway, the choice is yours but they will be available on the day to anyone from the forum for $25 in either black chrome or aluminium type finish. If anyone wants to read my feedback from people who have bought them off me via e-bay do a search on e-bay for the user name of sinbad215

Looking forward to meeting those of you coming that I have not already met. Let's just hope for some decent weather and some good photo opportunities.

Also, a big thanks to Pete for making this day happen for us. Maybe we should take it in turns (those of us with a bit of spare time) and organise 1 cruise a month. What do you guys think about that? I am sure that most of us know of a favorite bit of road somewhere.

I was also thinking it would be a good idea to swap mobile numbers and e-mail addresses for future get togethers. If you don't want to pass those details on that would be no big issue. Will anyone have a laptop computer with them to create a list? I was thinking having headings like User name, real name, e-mail address, mobile number & suburb you live in. That would give us a data base which would make it easier to let people know of any upcoming events. I don't have a laptop but can bring along some paper & pen etc if no one has a laptop. Once again, what do you guys think of the idea?

Cheers

I think some bangers will probably go down a treat with everything else that is organised.

I think the guys who have spent money on bringing food for the rest of us should get together and work out the total spent. Then it is a simple matter of dividing the combined total by the number attending and we have so much per head.

I am dead set against guys having to put their hand in their own pocket for the benefit of the rest of us. You guys need to be reimbursed for the money you spent (same doesn't apply for your speeding fines Pete ).

Everyone else agree with that?

No probs mate, things often change close to time. There will be another coming along soon.

I'm surprised more haven't had other commitments arise as it often happens. Round figures atm it's 25 cars coming. Hope the weather stays good.

I have no idea what to charge for the food as abovementioned threads - any suggestions. My end I'm not that worried about. Just seeking some feedback.

Fawwk that's good of you!!!!:goodjob:

No dramas about the beer mate as long as folk realise everything on this day is at their own risk. This is just a social outing and whatever happens happens.

Just a reminder that 26 cars hooning is "not" what I want to see!!!

Police will probably have already identified this cruise, as people tell me they are on this forum. Dunno if its true or not though.

I won't have the $$ to get my tune re-done by the day, but even with all the head, springs and valve work undertaken recently, the ECU seems to be sorting itself out to be going ok now (gawd it was grumpy and lumpy when I first picked it up), hence it should be safe to run on the cruise.

Any need for a little gas/hotrocks BBQ for onion or such?

Sounds like a great idea, bring it along.:)

I was thinking today that the last thing we need is heavy downpour of rain like yesterday happening on, or even the day before the cruise.

There are a few culverts where the road crosses the creek/river a few times (no dramas to drive), but does go underwater in times of heavy rain. The water subsides reasonably quickly though, hence will just have to see what happens closer to time and on the day.

With the various cancellations and additions, the number going appears to be 28 cars. I will post the listing tonight around 7pm and everyone can check that I have it right.

TONY - I will write Brad up as a Passenger to you.

HI EVERYONE - THE LIST ABOVE WILL BE THE CUTOFF

As it is atm I'm not real sure how we are going to park all these cars at the Queen Mary Falls section.

There is an area of shop car parking adjoining and behind Goodna Maccas in William street, which may be more conducive to meeting/parking the cars at the meeting point. Maccas gets pretty crowded Sunday Mornings.

I will try and post a diagram of the area I mean.

LATEST UPDATE - Refresher

DATE = 7th December 2008

MAIN MEETING / DEPARTURE POINT
The Shopping Centre Car Park directly adjoining the rear/back car park of Goodna Maccas. Off William St Goodna

Approx 8am for 8.30 departures

See Photo Below – Green bordered area of the photo is now the the main meeting point rather than Maccas itself, due to size of group and space to accomodate all cars coming

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x5/CalaisRider/Goodna.jpg

DEPART GOODNA

8.30 am

I will leave it to others to organise any other pre-meeting point locations and times in order to “get to” Goodna by approx 8am.

Given such large attendance (which is fantastic), there will be 3-4 people who will be key contacts/coordinators to run front, middle and rear of the pack in order to ensure radio contact is maintained and ensure no-one gets lost, or that the cruise takes care of people who may have mechanical difficulty along the way.

Please bring a UHF radio if you have one, or can beg/borrow/steal same.

As long as the weather holds well, the Cruise Route remains the same as on Page One / Post One of this thread. If you use Google Map and follow the route notes on page one, you will find that it’s reasonably easy to navigate.

I am still endeavouring to create copies of the cruise route to handout to everyone at the Gales meeting point.

I look forward to seeing you all out and about on the day.:)

Is it too late to put my name down for the cruise? Damn work getting in the way of my forum surfing ....

I'm 80% certain I can come, and I'm happy to fill in the gaps for bread/drinks etc for the BBQ lunch if someone tells me what we need.

Andrew, the reason we put a cut off was there were starting to get too many cars (can't believe I'm saying that). More from a point of view of trying to keep people together but we were also putting on a feed.

I believe Vulture above you is pulling the pin and I would assume Pete would have no probs you filling his spot.

Sort of. No, Tony my F1 was going in, lowered and tuned. However, this seems unlikely as my dealer has decieded to keep hold of my car until they completely happy with everything they had to fix. Gearbox was taken out and the clutch is being inspected. I am led to believe it will be ready for Sunday but my mods now have to wait.:bawl:

Is there anyone coming on the cruise that has Walkinshaw springs fitted to their VE (preferably Ute). If so, I would love to catch up and if possible go for a short ride with you so I can judge how stiff they are.

I would love to lower my VE Ute slightly but the springs would need to be on the soft side for my back if you know what I mean. Go cart suspension is a no go for me these days.

I have experienced the Lovells in my last VE so anyone with different brands I would like to talk to. Just come up and say G'Day. Another benefit of going on a cruise with this many cars is there are a lot of different combinations of mods which you may have been considering but not seen in the flesh. I suppose on the other hand, the downside is you will probably come home at the end of the day with extra items on your to do mod list

One big week end coming up for me, my nephew gets married Friday afternoon at Kingscliff, I’m working Saturday night from 2400 to 0300 then the cruise. I am sure Brad will give me a strong elbow into the ribs if I start to nod off :eyes:

Yep, that's the one.

Tony, couldn't agree more. I'd rather this car be fully 100% and right than push them to get it done just so I can get my mods done. It's just unfortunate that they stuffed around for nearly a month before they booked me in and then there was the unfortuante issue at Mr Muffler.

It isn't completely stock. It's running a CAI which I love. Can't wait to see it on the dyno and a before and after.

Look at the end of the day I cant wait for the cruise and will have fun anyway.

Yeh and mine is running with two busted Cats and a fawked tune. IMHO as long as the sucker holds out for the day all will be good.

Given the high volume of cars coming will have a pre-requisite of lower speed to preclude incidents (nothing over 250 allowed lol).

Scattered showers and possible late afternoon thunderstorm Sunday (going by past guesses that could mean anything LOL).

I have my car sitting outside tonight getting a wash from the rain.

I'm all set and ready; bag of wood, fire, axe, fire starter stuff, cooking oil, butter, salt and pepper, bread rolls and two loaves of bread pluds a surprise desert (fruit), Sat Phone and three portable radios - fawk that chore of cutting up 4kg of onions though, I did manage it in the end.

Chair and slip, slop, slap stuff.

I am bringin a few extra knives and forks and plates - but not many in relation to the size of the cruise group

Anyone got some b.b.q utensils that they can bring along - my boot is getting pretty full??

I have a set given to me from finishing a CHPP. Never used (so almost matches the Wagon) and I will bring them.

I have:

Pack of plastic plates/knives/forks/napkins
1 kg Primo Middle bacon (stuff that basic shit-it looked like fat)
10 litres iced water
Remaining ice in chilly bin
Gas single burner hot plate
Frying pan for gas burner (use for onion?)
'Son of Hibachi' hot-rock grill
Blankie
Thinging about sun umbrella
