Hi all, Have a almost 12 month old VE-SSV. It is going great but now is the time to crank it up a bit.

The pre-tax cost of my vehicle is turning out to be considerably less due to fuel as I do a lot of highway work. So I would like to get a CAI OTR, Exhaust and Tune under lease using the excess money I have in the kitty.

Has anyone had any experience with this and how they went about it? I am with Lease Plan.

Thanks in advance

Finney

About 9 years a go when i worked for Dasfleet (now Leaseplan), no mods where allowed on cars, as they needed to return to auction in their original factory form once the lease was up, only police cars where exempt due to police packs that where installed back in those days... i.e Comm Exec with V8, power windows etc etc..

Might be different now...

My previous lease cars from general motors, I couldn't do anything to them! The furthest mod I did to my AH Astra was put an apple window sticker on it =) otherwise you can't really touch a car that ain't yours..

Yeah my current company lease car from GMH I cant do anything to. A friend even enquired if he would be allowed to tint the windows atleast, they said he'd have to pay the excess to have it removed before it goes to auction.
But considering nowadays i only really keep them for 6 months before swapping, its not big deal. Window tint WOULD be nice though...

Mine is on Chattel MOrtgage...
has 3.9 diff gears - full exhaust and ceramic headers - POD filter - Mafless tune - Lowered.

If I do return it (and not buy it outright in feb 09) it will be given back exactly as I bought it - except 5 years older :) What will they know?

I'm the same. Not as many mods yet, but the intention is there and I will just remove it to sell to someone who really wants them rather than leave them to somebody who doesn't really care

Depends on what you plan to do at the end of the lease. I have done mods on previous lease vehicles however getting the mods done under the lease was difficult as they had to be put through as repairs. In addition I always planned on buying the car at the end & bought the car out of lease so the in that scenario it didn't matter with regards to going back to the lease company standard.

when i had the Monaro few years back with Esanda Finance
i was able to put Exhaust etc..
but when i put cam using the "kitty" money.
It did not go down well.

perhaps the kitty money could be used for newer rubber?

I have one through mcmillan shakespeare. It has exhaust cam tune. The receipts go back to the lease company and I am refunded with the cost of repairs to engine:) I may be under a different agreement though than some other guys. There are a lot of lease companies out there. And as long as u keep paying the lease payment...for cost of running servicing and finance you dont here from them. A mate of mine has modified his car...He recently transfered jobs and had to transfer the lease to the other company. While waiting for a start he had to pay the base lease payment whilst paying for fuel with his own funds until it was all transfered. Just dont go to overboard with ur mods. Keep it stelth(unless u plan on keeping it)

Depends on the type of lease. I think some people here are assuming the vehicle is a company lease which means the car is registered to your company and you just have use of it. In this case mods will be very difficult if not impossible because the car goes back to the lease company and auctioned at the end of the lease.

The other and the one I have is a novated lease which is salary packaged through work. The car is registered and insured in my name and in essence is my car just the same as if I'd gotten a personal loan from the bank and bought it myself. The lease company is just there to facilitate and manage the salary package.

The way funds are allocated within the lease is quite confusing. Funds are divided for different purposes ie fuel, tyres, maintanence, rego, insurance etc. If you under spend in one of those areas over the term of the lease you'll get the difference back, if you over spend then they take the money from another area where the funds are available. Another area within the package is called 'other provisions' which is to cover expenses which aren't really covered under anything else, but be warned the fund allocation to this area is not much so you'll over spend quickly. I bought my 2003 VY SS second hand in 2005, the wheel allignment was out and I could never get it quite right. I took it to the local Holden to check why and found that the rear control arm was slightly bent. Turned out the previous owner had probably gone sideways into a gutter or something. Funds to repair the damage came from the 'other provisions' allocation. 3 years later the funds allocated to this area still haven't caught up will the expense.

At the end of the day you'll need your tuner to be a little creative with the explanation for the work being done because if you want the money to come from your lease funds then they'll need to approve the work being carried out.

The terms lease, hire purchase, finance and chattel mortgage etc tend to be blurred a bit.

Simple rules.

If YOU own the car then you can do what you like.
If SOMEONE ELSE owns the car, e.g. your employer, a financial institution or whatever then you must get their permission to do anything with it.

If you mod their car and they are unhappy about it you will be unhappy too.

Hi all,

Sorry for my tardy response but work has been terrible! I am with Lease Plan, salary sacrifice and have a heap of money in the Fuel (2.5K). I was panning on a OTR CAI, Exhaust (Haven't decided on catback or right through yet $$?) and Tune.

Sounds like it is a goer, so will have a chat to the person I plan to do the work and see what happens!

Will keep you posted.

Cheers
