hello
I've been offered an 01 model R6 for $750. It was stolen and they couldn't start it so they just pushed it in to the river. It was in the river for a few hours and i don't think it was cleaned up properly and the guy just said it's completely f*cked. Just wondering what sort of dollars i would be looking at to get it rebuilt etc and new wiring
cheers

If you where experienced in that model of bike and was very handy with a spanner, I would say yes. Just about all the electrics I would imagine would need replacing. If the guy tried to start the thing with sparkplugs in, I would imagine it would become hydraulically locked which is a bad thing. If you could get another wreck for a couple of thousand which does happen, and could mix and match or one whole bike again it may not be to bad.
If you have never owned one and have not had multiple years of experience with bikes I would not reccomend it.

it hasn't been started or attempted to be started so it's not hydraulically locked

I would be changing fluids and giving it a spray of start ya bastard and trying to get it running before laying down the money. chances are if it went in with the key off it would have half a chance of turning over, if it was in freshwater it would be better odds.
I did that to my YZ 125, it went into the drink luckily I shut it down and fired first go after doing the above

Hydro lock is no major drama anyway, i've lost count of how many times i drowned my WR450...Tip her upside down with the plug out and crank it over by rotating the back wheel...Might need 4 of ya's, R1's are kinda heavy.
If all the plastic's are fine, i'd buy it...
You can always part it out and make money if you've bitten off more than you can chew...
$750 would normally buy maybe a laced rim with no hoop on it.
$450 odd for an upper fairing.
Making a bit of profit shouldnt be an issue if you "wrecked" it.
