I have been told that the VE MAF does not add a large restriction to the intake (unlike Gen III), so there is probably not a great advantage to go MAFLESS. Check with your tuner though.

Normally the gearbox tune is extra. But can be done at the same time.

As far as price - it probably starts around the $500 mark. You need to visit the Sponsors section of the forum. Visit a few of there websites. Most of them will have tune options and pricing listed.

Good luck

No idea about Vic mate...

Are you sure that none of the Melb based sponsors don't do it?

I had my A6 done by Oztrack (sponsor) - and the car drives completely different now.

If you can't find anyone in Vic then check Oztracks' forum and website. He can do some cool stuff to your car remotely (over the internet). Providing you can find someone with EFI-Live and a Wireless Internet connection.

If you are just talking about the A6 Tune, then in the flesh will make no difference! The A6 tune is essentially just an "upgrade" to the software in the Auto Box and it is not necessary to "Log" your car or customise the tune to suit your car.

But the engine tune is almost certainly better "in the flesh".

Good luck with it mate.

Hopefully Chev's can help you out!

Yep, I agree with T2000. The MAF in the VE provides very little restriction so you won't pick up much if any more power with MAFless however I do believe you can get improved throttle response. MAFless on VE has far more to it than on previous models due to the way the E38 PCM is set up. Prices for a custom dyno tune (MAF) typically start at around $800 and MAFless are typically a few hundred more I believe.

A decent A6 tune can be as much as $400, although I think some tuners will throw in a base one for SFA when they tune the motor.

Have called VCM as referred by Chevs and they have advised me that they do not do a specific Auto tune rather do a full tune inc. Auto.....

Over the phone price was $1100

That sounds about right for full PCM and TCM tune. I believe going rates on a full custom dyno tune are around $800 and as I said above I believe the going rate for a good A6 tune is around $400 (shocked me too - I thought maybe $200 but apparently there is a huge amount of work in it), so $1,100 for both is reasonable.

Fully tuning an auto is alot more difficult than tuning an engine, and has been described to me by people who do it for a living and fitting aftermarket auto computers as "take a week off and drive the car every day, because thats how long you will need to get as good as the standard auto drove on the standard computer".

You have so much more in pressures and shifts etc etc to adjust and change, and one change can effect another, and on it goes.

A "quick" auto tune shortens the shift time, so it feels different.

Anybody can tweak the A6, but getting it right means knowing the right settings to put into the box and how the system works to get the best effect. The A6 needs a coherent set of calibrations and in Australia there are numerous versions of the A6 operating system and settings. So they arent all the same.

I have just been with Craig at Craig's Automatics today and he has some enhancements available now , but he also believes the stock tune settings are causing some of the problems that we are seeing with 4-5-6 clutch packs.
