Hi Peoples,
Thought I might post up a few photos of the truck my dad is restoring. It is a International KB-5 (1941). The attached photos only show the later parts of the build. The truck started as a typical farm relic (although the cab was in
'reasonable condition' )

A couple photos during the body work stage

Trial assembly to finish up bonnet and guard fit/alignment. The chassis and running gear have all been rebuilt( or refurbished), sandblasted and refinished and assembled with new hardware/fastners

Work then halted to construct a home spraybooth to provide a clean and well lit work area. Booth includes sealed fluro lighting, air inlet filters, paint arrestor filters and explosion proof fan/electrics

Cab in booth ready for final tack ragging and paint.

Me with gun in hand starting to shoot colour. I started by edging out all the panels with particular attention paid to the complex firewall sheetmeal (note proper supplied air respirator to keep 2k paint fumes out of my lungs)

The finished product (no runs or orange peel to ruin the job). Minor sanding and finishing will be required due to dust contamination but this is all part of the refinishing process.

One of the finished panels after colour sanding followed by cutting/compounding and glazing.

We will next be painting the dash and doors ready for glass installation and final assembly. Hope you enjoyed the photos will try to add some earlier build photos shortly.

Cheers,
Trav

looks absolutely beautiful !:goodjob:
good idea using a fresh air respirator though technically you should also use a full face mask as the isocyanate's can enter into your eyes .

Grandad (RIP) used to have one of those . I think it was a KB-1 and was used in Western Qld until the mid 60's. A REAL workhorse and was I think a 5 tonne truck that carried almost twice that much regularly. Can't remember if it was a Blue Diamond or the Green Diamond engine .

Yeah excellent preperation, to get those truck bodies to be smooth as
It certainly takes some elbow grease in the prep stage.

AWESOME !:)

Well done

There was a group of K5, I think at least one K7 and a big number of REO and Diamond 'T' yesterday in the South Australian Bay to Birdwood Rally.

Even one bloke tuned up in a bob-tail R190!!!

The International was a key transport vehicle in the 1945-1970 era in Australia.

Keep at it and we may see yours next year over here for the Bay to Birdwood!!!!

Sorry Tinmay5.7 I rarely do paying jobs. Basically there is not that much money in it and if someone was dissatisified with my work then it all becomes a bit of a hassle ( having to redo it etc). I think I can paint alright but I am not a trained/qualified painter. I am also working away at the moment so have only limited time back in Perth.

The booth was actually quite cheap to construct ( bit of time involved). Frame was stud wall track/channel with hardie flex (cement sheeting) so as to minimize the risk of explosion due to the flammable paints. H section joiners were used between sheets with clear acrylic infront of the fluros. The plenum frame was welded up with SHS/RHS and clad with second hand tin. We sourced a second hand (explosion proof) spray booth fan for extraction. Then it was just a matter of welding up the large barn doors which house the inlet filters. A little ingenuity was required to ensure adequate sealing around the barn doors.

Cheers,
Trav

Original Inter straight six (~230 ci). Cannot remember the exact engine details my dad is the project manager/technical director . I am there purely as exploited free labour/spraypainter.
