Hey guys,
I have just bought an SS-V ute and am happy with it but do huge distances and like my music and would like to just add a simple sub to the stereo. i don't want to look like a doof doof wanker etc but would like a tiny bit more bass. The standard stereo is fine quality wise but yeah...
I was thinking of a single 8" or maybe 10" but not sure where to put it?
Has anyone else put subs into a VE ute without going over the top?
Also don't want to spend a fortune.
I am in Brisbane next week and maybe if possible could get it done there.
Open for ideas and pics too if possible

Focal make a great 10" in a box with amp that is a nice snug fit under the passenger seat, comes with remote control to adjust as well.
Its like 400mm long, 300mm wide, and 70mm deep, and though not quite as good the focal sub in box, its as good as you will get for the money, in the ute. The main thing is that the stereo doesnt really have a designated bass output to drive it as good as it could be, either.
I have one fitted in mine, and its a big improvement.

i have read that the stereo has cables for rear speakers but are not connected to anything, so even if you put some decent speakers behind the seats it should make a difference.

The factory speakers are the biggest failure of most mainstream models. You might find that a full upgrade to quality speakers alone gives you most of what you seek.

I should be picking my SSV ute up on monday and the following tuesday it is booked in for a stereo install. Getting a set of Focal Polyglass 165V1s with a focal solid 2 amp and i'll see how that goes. the doors will be have dynamat on them on the inner and some focal sound dispersion pads (i think that what they are called) on the outer of the door directly behind the speaker, its supposed to stop sound rebounding of the door and causing distortion in the cone.
was thinking about a little bazooka tube sub, they guy fired up a little 6" tube and no sh*t, i could believe how good it sounded in a massive store not to mention what it would be like in a ute. the focal speakers can go pretty low down to 60Hz and with the doors treated should be able to sound pretty close to a sub in the car as well.
try and find someone local to you with a focal install and have a listen and see what you think before putting just a sub it.

PCA Systems who do the WP Audio upgrade have engineered a Ute system that is ready in 2 weeks. Comes with 3way speakers, Amp, Sub – the Sub is mounted in a dedicated box that sits behind the centre console and is made to fit perfect- also comes trimmed in matching Holden Leatherette. All components are JBL and the kit is a plug in. They have used our Maloo as a Mule!

the sub fits in snug infront of the battery area, you miss out on about 3-4 notches to move the seat back.

OK, well first, Car Audio section. Especially for questions like this.
Second, I really don't recommend a subwoofer in your situation. Utes do VERY well with a good speaker upgrade.
Fully sound-deaden your doors, install a solid amplifier (100w/ch >) and a solid set of splits, and you will get the additional bass you are wanting, without going over the "doof doof" top, and with better all round clarity and definition. A good set of splits can often be deceiving and with proper tuning will surpass the cheaper subwoofers out there.
