"Holden has plans to build a new small car at its Elizabeth plant, in Adelaide, but workers do not yet not know if it would be manufactured there or assembled from overseas-made parts".

Grrrrr...they already have the Viva, Astra and Barina.

Do something useful Holden....drop a V8 into a few Colorados,
Bring out an SV6 Turbo, Bring back the 1 tonner...

What about a decent commercial vehicle range like the Chev/GMC vans and trucks - the mines alone would underwrite the development costs

Most likely holden will just build an exisiting model here in australia rather than import it like they did with the vectra in the late 90's.

It is unlikely they will biuld something completely unique.

The goal here is to increase the long term security of the Elizabeth plant. Importing more/ diferent model from overseas won't do that nor releasing models which will cannabilise exisiting sales Re: SV6 turbo.

Instead of turbocharging the SV6 I say bring back the Torana as a turbo 6. Give the XR6T a run for it's money.

Problem is fellas, less costs more... I think Holden's going to find it hard to go significantly downwards in weight in their current platform without huge QC troubles.

And sadly, a turbo/super 6 would cost too much for them to implement compared to the "drop-in" corvette engines. Trust me, I want to see it too, but in a smaller platform, the best we will see is a front-wheel drive 3.2v6, and more focus on the four cylinders. HSV might be a different story, but check this post once they release it and tell me if I'm right...

Should also mention that Holden would have access to this aswell:

It's amazing how close is appearance the Torana concept car was to the VE considering it was shown back in 2004.

Especially when you consider how close Holden kept their cards to their chest during the development of the VE.

Yep. One of the best examples I've seen so far for "publicly" testing a future brand new model's design language.

Its the blatantly obvious things that sometimes dont stand out :p That concept car was yeah just a concept smaller ve wasnt it? To get public reaction, and that same digital gauge in the concept appeared in the latest coupe concept aswell didnt it? Also the hatch mechanism in the torana concept is now in the wagon right?

I hope this 'testing the waters' principle by Holden doesn't catch on to much otherwisw the VF Commie could end up based on the EFIJY :jester:

LOL the VF ill have a lot of the styling from the coupe60 minus the door styling.

Holden will not biuld anything that will eat into the commodore sales, so anything which is performance based.

My money is on a locally biult version of the astra or the new cruze.
