Guys
Advice please. Have finally decided on my exhaust and happy with the decision I have made.
Now, I am trying to decide on the tips. I quite like the look of large tips but have been warned that going too big may mean that cutout in the back of the SS's rear valance may get over heated and melt. Can anyone comment.
I found these and am quite interested but these were an item that may be of the concerning type. ie too big. They are from a CV8Z and are The diameter of the back end of the tip that connects to the exhast pipe measures 7.5cm, with an internal diameter of 6.5 cm then flairs out to the external diameter of the tips (ie the diameter of the tip that faces out) measureing 9.4 cm.

I also really like the GTS ones as seen here (thanks Jai)

But at $400 from HSV, I think not (was quoted $100 a pop from my dealer)
I really like the double wall look and like 'em large but hate canons.
Ideas and pics would be greatly appreciated.

hmm go the Monaro ones ;) I could have given you my old HSV tips if you really wanted some, I just left the system at the exhaust shop and they would have dumped it (or scrapped it).
I'm quite partial to the ones on the Xforce I have, they work well but are a little small for the SS...

Yeah mate, they are the 80mm tips. The larger ones would be too big for the ovoid cutouts, but would look shmick on the SS!

bwhinnen, which tips do mean are 80mm? The CV8Z ones? I think they would look awesome but am still concerned about this heat problem and the possible melting of the rear valance. Any comments on this.

Mine are 3.5" (approx 89mm) and no signs of any melting issues. There is a fairly big gap but only the same as many others I have seen and it certainly doesn't look odd.
Must admit I've never tried touching the tips to feel how hot they get but I would be surprised if they had enough heat in them to melt the plastic even if they were close (but not touching). Put a gap of 10mm or so between the tips and the plastic and you should have no problems - also stops the tips rattling against the body under some circumstances.

No the Xforce ones I have are 80mm. The CV8Z ones are 3.5" so about 87 - 88mm which should fit in the SS cutout without a problem at all and look epic!

The 3.5 in Stainless Double Walled ones that are angle cut are the exact same ones that KPM put on the systems that are made for them. They sell them for about $380 for 4 or try here.....http://stores.ebay.com/Assured-Automotive-Company
I got some from this mob earlier this year for $180 delivered to my door. Yep, 4 of them, shipping included.
Theres plenty in here about tips too.http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=99090&highlight=exhaust+tips

Bonners the CV8 Monaro tips will be too big, I've tried that route already..... unless you want to butcher the plastic surround around the tips...
I just got a quote over the weekend from Scott's Rods in QLD for 4 tips the same as Wonky's - 2.5" to 3.5" double skinned slight angle cut for $240 delivered to Perth.

Good luck getting them from CSV. I've been waitin about 5 months, always an excuse why he hasn't got them. If you get an extra set in your hands there let me know and if I'm still lookin I'll buy them....

I wasn't actually looking to buy these so I guess I am lucky in that respect. I just like the 'dual skin look'

Hey Adam I will get a few examples over when I do your system and pic what will look and fit the best. Those tips on Evans Clubby did look great but are close to the bumper, hopefully on an SS we will have more room.
See you soon
