Hi guys

regretably I might have to sell my beloved VE SV6 and I just thought I will ask this question here on forums, as I would love to hear from people who have recently either traded or sold their VEs lately.

So basically I have a VE SV6, Phantom color, 15.000kms, auto, leather seats, sports steering wheel, reverse parking sensors and it is exactly one year old. Its been well looked after (eg washed every weekend etc). It also has an upgraded exhaust to the one used in VE SS (not noisy).

My personal situation has changed and I am exploring an option of selling / trading in this car and get something smaller / cheaper (around $10K).

Question is, how much would I get for this car? There appears to be decreasing demand for these awesome cars due to high fuel prices.

My payout figure is around $38K so that means I will have to take a hit and refinance the difference between that and what I get for the car PLUS the $10K for the 2nd hand car.

I would rather do this the easy way - walk in to a dealer , pick a shit box for $10K, give them keys to mine and let them do the finance etc etc. But most likely this is not the smartest thing to do in a sense of how much would they give me (I will try to negotiate the interest rate though).

Any thoughts on how much would dealer give me and how much can I sell it for through online advertising (eg carsales, drive) ?

Cheers!

Looking at that mate, At a guess i think you would be Walking out with a heap of shit and still owing the same sorta dollars,
I cant see you getting much more than 25k for the sv6, Which leaves you owing 14k, plus you 10k and add a few for all the refinancing and changeover costs, I would say you would be around the 32k mark., All a guess, But i have changed my cars over 9 times in the last few years, You just cant win,
If you sold it private, I think you could get High 20s maybe 30 on a good day,

I was in a similar situation a few months ago but mine was a 1-yr old auto vess with leather. I tried selling it online but only got a couple of not serious responses. So I traded it in for a smaller car. I got 34k for the vess. Not sure about the market price for vesv6. Good luck.

thanks .... yeah thats what I was worried about....

I am prol better off just keeping the car and keep paying the repayments ... :bawl:

I cant believe how much value these cars loose... its ridiculous ... $20K in one year ... almost half the price .... far out ...

It's sure better to be buying a car that's one or two years old rather than try and sell one that's for sure.

Sometimes its better buying 2-3 year old technology, which isnt suddenly inferior (it was perfect only a short time ago) than to buy new :soap:

But saying that I feel for you and good luck, hope it works out

yeha I saw those Redbook valuation guides ....

not sure what it means when you have extra accessories ... as thats where it can add up ...

if I could get $30K for the car, I would sell it right away ... hmm ... im going for a service (15K) this saturday so I will pop in to the shop and have a chat with the sales guys and suss out bit more info ....

thing is .. I LOVE this car.... but ... it costs me like $1500 a month (repayments, fuel, rego, insurance, service etc) which is a lot of cash atm :(

Is it on a novated lease atm? If not, consider putting it on one if the tax savings work out in your favour

What does that tell us about how over priced these new cars are?

its financed through GMAC as hire purchase and yes, I do get tax benefits ...

problem is that I just bought a CBR600RR which I will ride to work etc ... so I wont clock up many KMs on the SV6 anymore ... :(

mate your timing is so bad....a friend of mine just traded there 1 year old sv6 with 28000 km on it and got $18000 trade in on a VE SS wagon & there sv6 is on the lot for $23990....so if you are not prepared to loose the $ looks like you have to own it till the wheels fall off...if a new model comes soon you can just imagine what it will be worth then...VE SS's that have been traded in caryards are going for $28990 on carsales.com.au right now....so you can guess what the owners got for them...

$25K trade in tops--if you can find anyone that would take it--and not much more, if any, for a private sale.
It's just the current "state of the nation"!
Cheers, Pickles.

If you get on carsales and look for 2007 SV6 I only find 3 private sales - all $33K, if you flick across to dealer cars there are many more starting about $28K, these ones aren't 15,000Km. Hey values might not be fantastic, but realistically you have an almost new SV6 with only 15,000Km on it. I would agree with sixlta that as a private sale high 20's perhaps 30 is possible. You need to be prepared to advertise it yourself and wait, you won't be trampled in the rush, but if your happy with around $30K and can't cop some of BS prices the dealers will offer then have a go, worst case you'll loose a $100 or so for a few ads if no interest at price you are happy with, of course the less you are happy to accept, the quicker it would probably sell - I would think if you were to advertise at $28K firm I would think you should get a taker, if you hold out for more it will probably take a bit longer and perhaps not sell at all. If you look at VZ SV6 in yards most want say $25K. Don't forget you have VE one year old and only 15,000Km auto and leather, I don't think you should have to give it away. Just think if you had $30K in your pocket could get a car as good as yours and get some change - probably not. Good luck.

I was at a car Auction 2 weeks ago. A VE SV6 with 25,000 km sold for $25K. Trading you car will deliver the lowest value.

I saw a BA Falcon with around 75,000km at Auction go for $7,500, not sure if it was referred or sold.

There are people on this Forum who may be able to pickup a car from a Dealer Auction for you. They work in the trade buying and selling cars.

If you can sell private and buy at Auction you will be thousands ahead compared to trading and buying at a Dealer.

De register it. Get basic fire/theft insurance and park it in your garage. You wont have to put petrol in it. Some good savings there.. In time you will win the lottery and things will change for you.
In the meantime - Enjoy your new ride.
