hey guys , about to change water pump on my vy and thought since the weather is starting to warm up i will pull the radiator out for a cleanout as well , any tips or tricks when fitting a new pump ? , a new aftermarket or genuine thermostat ?, best coolant ?, i am also wondering what others have used to clean out their header tanks and try and get the stains out , and finally the best way to avoid air locks in the system i was going to let it run with the heater on and leave the cap off while it is idling until it stops taking anymore coolant, is this a good way to get all the air out of the system? ,....... cheers in advance

make sure you grab some new water pump gaskets too :)

Just watch for some of the aftermarket thermostats. Some of the cheaper ones aren't quite aligned - when they open they stick on the shroud & don't close properly. Terrible in winter as the car then runs too cool & chews the juice.

Best coolant is the Genuine Holden stuff apparently... I just had my radiator replaced in my VYSS and the old fella fixing it has been doing them for 40 years. He said that the other brands showed too much variance in the glycol levels... so he will use nothing else except the Genuine Holden gear... and he has no connection to Holden whatsoever.
