Just a question on the Air Conditioning for the VE, had this same problem with a VT in the past.

Below is the scenario: -

Driving along with Air Conditioning on and the Recirc button on (the button with the car shape on it and the arrow circling around the inside), come up to an older diesel or oil burning car in front of me and the fumes still come into the car! What I wanted to know is, when the Recirc button is activated, are fumes still supposed to enter into the car? isn't that supposed to be only using the air from inside the car and cooling/heating it then blowing it back out into the cabin?

Same situation in my ford ute that i have for work and i dont get a sniff of smoking cars when the recirc button is activated, but this one lets the smells in.

Was wondering if this may be a common issue?

These systems are not completely air tight, and can still allow some external air into the cabin. The problem is the seals that are used on the air box is simple foam. The main duty of the air box is to recirculate most of the air from the cabin, It unfortunately will still allow foul odors in.

Cheers,
Steve

If you read your cars manual, it actually mentions that even on recirc it occassionally opens a valve to lets some fresh air inside the cabin

The system is set to always add some air from outside. This prevents you running out of oxygen in the air and going to sleep. Recirc simply adds less air than full flow.
