Hey guys I would like your opinion based on the following.
I am still in a dilemma with buying an SS. I do not know which is going to be better. I love driving manual, but autos are cruisy.
I am getting the DUS OTRCAI, Full exhaust with extractors, and EFILive tune, which will yield in the vicinity of 220-240rwkw.
I have been told that the autos are storng, and will take this powere on a daily basis (even with more power).
I have also been told that the clutches will not handle this power (or the gearbox without doing some mods). A few guys seem to be using the Tex? clutches.
I don't drive hard all the time anymore, those days are gone, just crusiing with a squirt here and there.
The thing is I dont want to go and fork out another 3k on top of the above mods to get a new clutch, nor to rebuild a manual gearbox. If I got manual, I cannot have the clutch to heavy as my wife has to drive it as well.
What are peoples experiences with the auto V manual debate. I basically just need a daily driver, that isn't a bi%$# to drive.
You comments are appreciated. :)

I'm all for the manual but I'm sure one day I might get sick of changing gears. The clutch is fine with the power as long as you don't do hard launches, shifts all the time. Factory is never the best, but mine's just started to slip at 165,000km :)

I'd back the T56 over the 4l60e any day, as far as power handling goes. As for clutches - as Evman says, treat it right and it will be fine for those power outputs. I ran the oem clutch for 35000k's with 260+rwkw - it only died after the heads and a larger cam went in.
It all comes down to YOUR preference. If you think a manual may be a pain as a daily for you or the missus, then get an auto - simple as that.
Cheers,
Macca

Manual I'd say, Auto's as you say are cruisy but I'd soon get bored with it.

:yup: the manual is far stronger than the auto but for the price of a clutch, you could buy another entire auto gearbox.

Hahaha - depends which clutch you buy Simon! It is great to see plenty of cheap boxes and motors getting about nowadays - it provides for plenty of options.
Cheers

Asking that is a bit like asking people whether you should vote Liberal or Labor, or barrack for Collingwood or Carlton.......

at least with VY auto you can go from 4th to 3rd without having to press lockout button on VX and earlier, makes for a better drive than say a VX auto I think.

get the auto mate, get it tuned, the shift points and pressures changed and you'll be laughing, will lay rubber into second, and plus if your concerned about durability of auto, 4l65e's are pretty cheap these days
also cant you go to 2nd with out lockout gate on vy's, my dads vy exec work car did, thrived on it lol

some ya do.. my first VY Exec ya didnt have to, my second VY was an S and ya had to press it now on my VY SS ya dont have to. to the OP i wanted manual but the missus cant drive manual (as if she ever will drive it ) so i went auto cause all the manuals had 130+ ks when i was looking & the autos had 60-70ks so i went auto but i figured out i was sick of manual in the lancer i drove for 10 months before i got the SS.
If you haven't purchased an VY II SS yet, I have a clean M6 one for sale....

Why have a performance car in auto? Either get a manual or if you really want an auto buy a v6 executive.

I agree, a v8 berlina/calais would be the go in a auto but each to there own.

By the sounds of it, youre at an age where you are getting over the hoon element. If I was single and had no kids Id have a manual, but having a young child and a wife that isnt as much as an enthusiast for gear changing like I am, then an auto is the better option. Mine goes fast enough with an auto. My VX was a manual and eventhough it was great, it was really no big deal going to an auto.

just trick up the auto with a shift kit and stall convertor in saying that have a vy ss series 2 with auto box quicksilver in colour, brand new 20inch wheels and lowered immaculate condition if your interested mate..not in a hurry to sell but should be in the cars for sale section at some point of time

That's right I messed up when I wrote that - should have written 3rd to 2nd without pressing lockout button on VY but only 4th to 3rd on VX and older.
