there ok.. couple of my mates had the trial sss ones fitted to there cars for testing...

Still its basically wank factor.. you would have to be making alot of power/heat to warrant using one.. the standard units are very good in my opinion.

thanks

was thinking it could be helpful when running a lower temp stat with the extra cooling available to keep the fans off longer. a lot cheaper than PWR too

Mate have a look where I live and I don't have any problems with the stock radiator. I will admit that at about 40c ambient it struggles to maintain 80c ECT. But even then the highest I've seen it get is 88c and that was 45c ambient. When I lived in Newcastle I never had a problem and maintaining 80c was easy all year round.

What's plastic got to do with it. For a mild LS1 to maintain 90c you will never have a problem with the stock system.. Its actually a very good system.

doesnt affect the cooling
but gets brittle with age and that is why there is so many split side tanks
you arent going to have that problem with alloy

and the auto fitting on the STD suck with the 2 pces on each. replaced the end tanks on this one before cracked...

i think mine needs cleaning out again. temp have been creeping up over time and taking longer to go down. traffic goes up quicker..used to run 80c now struggling to hold 88C, not much up but it held 80 easy ages ago. another 80c new stat in when it was apart. no change, pump is good and no leaks. lack of capacity to hold down temps if have some blockages.

a bigger one can hold temps down in traffic longer without fans being on as long

so if i'm going to pull it out may, as well put a better one in if not much more.

i thought may as well get a new one, std is cheap $200. was going to get a std one then i saw those.

these are $300

that looks pretty good for $300

my old man just changed his in his WH
and it was brittle as
it was just falling apart when you touched it

why not get a vz style at the same time and tidy up your engine bay? :)

thought of that. but i want to keep the low coolant level warning setup. Which i believe the VZ doesn't have? I don't trust temp gauges alone...

i've seen those radiators as well and was thinking of getting one. but seeing as i went to a vz style setup just over 12 months ago dont really want to buy another radiator.

if you get one let us know as i think my dad's wh is about to loose it's radiator.

vy is the same radiator as the vx.

vz was different.

they also changed the fan setup between each model. but vy fans will fit in vz shroud but you have to put in a couple of washers to space the fan out.

atleast i had to do that on mine.

I have one of these radiators I had to do a bit of trimming of the top LH/RH brackets also beveled off the rubber support on the drivers side as it was fouling on the tank, all of this is not hard to do. In my opinion the alloy radiators are better but still may suffer from cracks but not before plastic radiators would. There 52mm wide compared to 30mm plastic ones , 2mm tank wall thickness.

well actually yes the VY must be different because they do, i saw it yesterday when looking

Thats the good news.... the bad new is it was a lot more expensive.. i'll be back with a link, if i find it.

here it is VY http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Holden-VY-HSV-Commodore-V8-Radiator-Aluminium-Alloy-NEW_W0QQitemZ220299317836QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item2 20299317836&_trkparms=39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A1|240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

looks a bit weird, only a cooler on one side?

So does it cool better in traffic etc or no difference? depend if you trying to run cooler or not i guess. question maybe should be will it hold 80deg easy.

you can buy these direct as well, for less than Ebay.

mine seemed to run a little cooler today (still hot over 30 again day). with the front bar mod i did, plus another one i won't mention that lets in a little more air. everything points to a under performing radiator still extra airflow helps. the exterior core is clean, i air-gunned that out 2 weeks ago
