Yes I did a bloody search :nutkick:

Thinking of upgrading my clutch just in case something goes wrong.

Does anyone have any feedback on these LS9 setups? I'm assuming the clutch and flywheel would fit.

It would be interesting to hear how they compare to our standard clutches....what the pedal effort is like, do they have a progressive action, etc.

Might be the way to go if they become available.....a factory hi-po clutch.

Tone, you're probably aware that Titanium had an LS7 clutch - I think it is now in Curtis' car and doing very well.

Otherwise, go for a TT-Tex or MalWood.

I wouldn't think that an LS9 clutch would be very easy to come by to be honest.

Cheers,

Macca

Tone the LS9 clutch is a twin disc set up (260mm plates) as opposed to the LS7 which is a single plate set up. Pedal feel is reported to be similar to an LS7.

As a guide,the LS9 engine is rated at 462 kw (823 NM) as opposed to LS7 @ 375 kw (640 NM).

Precisely why I thought that the LS9 clutch would be better suited to my application than the LS7 clutch.

Does anyone know if they are available as a spare part?

I would rather stick to a factory clutch than go aftermarket this time. I'm after a stock standard type of pedal feel, not a heavy pedal. I also want no hint of shudder and no noises.

The LS7 might be a bit light duty for my application, if I end up taking it down the strip occasionally.

Hi Tone,
long time reader, first time poster.

If you havent already jump onto fraser from speedinc, he quoted a ls7 pressure plate, clutch plate and fidanza lightended billet flywheel delivered for $970AU, was about half a year ago so might cost more since the dollar probally isnt as good, i never went through with it only because i plan to do circuit racing and head to the drags.

Also what tex did you have before a Z or X??

I had a Z grip Tex, a bit hardcore for me.

Titanium had that clutch setup I believe, felt very nice when I drove it. I'm hoing the LS9 feels the same as that.

Gday tone ,
Not much info but Curtis has got the ls7 clutch in his and with his rwkw's doesnt play up at all. I have driven it and it feels better than my stock clutch. His has no shudder or vibration through the pedal or stick at all. Really light feel too.Never slips either.
Cheers,

Andy.

i too am thinking of going an ls7 clutch because i drive my car in city traffic everyday and dont want noises, shudder or a heavy pedal feel and $1000 is a very good price for a 375+kw clutch, but if the ls9 clutch feels the same as the ls7 and isnt too much more expensive, ill go the ls9 clutch due to the fact that i want to turbo my car in a years time, cheers

Tone and Millsy just get a Mal Wood option 3+ clutch, they are slightly heavier but there is no noises or shuddering. They are good for 600rwkw as well which will more then suit both of your future applications.

You two are more then welcome to feel my clutch at the next bookclub

I had the pleasure of taking S2VYSSIHAVEANOPTION3MALWOOD :jester: for a drive on Sunday.. I must say the malwood feels very good, lots of grip.. very smooth yet not spongy and yes its a bit heavier than stock. But awsome manners for a daily driver.

I have also had the pleasure of driving Titanium's car with the ls7 clutch in it and at the drags it did very well.... the more runs I did the grippier it got. But the pedal feel was like stock.

I have also drive a Tex Z grip(Zozzas..not sure which Zozza though)... Very grippy clutch, slightly heavy pedal BUT it Shuddered if not given the right amount of revs on take off.

my 1c worth.

LS9 Flywheel is different and will not work, 9 bolt

perhaps someone could make a flywheel to allow LS9 clutch to work

however so many other clutch options I don't see this happening

Now everyone please be patient you can all feel my crutch! LOL

Tuffie has tried all the clutches mentioned and I think his advice is most likely the best advice of all.

I dont think you can have a strong clutch that will withstand any decent amount of power while still maintaining stock feel. On a daily basis the mal wood is not that heavy or bad and you get used to it

tone, have you tried a x grip, i cant remember if ive read they have bad manners or not, and can hold about the same ammount of power,
or are you steering clear from them fullstop?

I love my LS7 clutch. No noise, no shudder, light pedal and no slip. Much nicer than the stock unit and very driveable. I am not putting turbo grunt through it though! However it will be recieving a little bit more power in the next few weeks

That stuffs that idea then, eh? :(

I take it the LS9 clutch pack is significantly different to the LS7, and parts do not interchange?

I'd say it is the flywheel that is different - as he stated...

Get a MalWood UT - you know you want to!!!

Cheers for that Tuffie.

I don't want a heavier clutch at all if I can help it, so the Mal Wood is out. I've tried a Mal wood before, I thought it felt pretty heavy compared to what I'm used to.

The Tex I had did everything right for a race clutch. You can't expect a clutch to be able to handle that much abuse without some compromises.....but with this car I don't want to compromise.

Sounds like the LS7 may be the answer....but I still would like to see what happens with the aftermarket and the LS9 clutch.....and I still have some concerns with its longevity.

Surely I'm not the only one here that wants a light clutch with grip and no nasty side effects??

CheersYes, but I'm curious to know if the LS9 clutch assembly would bolt up to an LS7 type flywheel.

Mal Wood is too heavy for me, as I stated before.

Does anyone have any feedback regarding the new Xtreme clutch?

Like others have said, you get used to the clutch. I have a z grip and its not that heavy for me. (i do have the legs arnie  ) if its only slightly heavier but with a very positive feel i think it would be better than a stocker.

I put an LS7 clutch in mine a few weeks ago. It feels a touch lighter than the stock clutch but grips alot better. I've only got 220/220 cam so I feel it should last quite well even with a few trips to he drags.
The best part is I bought it a few months ago and it only cost around AU$740 from the states which included over US$200 delivery.
