One of our June 2008 R8 Clubbies was written off on Monday morning on a damp M7 in Sydneys west. The female driver got cut off as she went to overtake, and ended up in a power slide that ended in an over correction that slamed them into a concrete barrier on the side of the road at about 100 click's without braking. The car copped it hard, but the good news is the passangers made it out alive, but this was a big hit, with the engine almost pushed up through the fire wall.
I went to hospital to see that the occupants were ok, and then went and saw our friendly panel beater, where the car had been sent.

I've got a few pictures.... and you know what.... all four door still open, without any unusual force. Amazing really, because the roof is buckled and the chassis rails are well bent at the firewall. The VE shell is one strong , safe car, or the people in this car wouldn't have made it out!

I want the instrument cluster, front two seats, hsv gauge's and surround. Oh and if its a manual i'll take the shifter knob and boot. Also whatever else i can pry off that will swap into my ute.

Kidding aside its great news that everyone managed to walk away...................Hope it was insured tho

Out of curiosity and given the circumstances was the ESP active??

ESP would prevent power slides. Did she switch off the ESP???

Glad to see everyone is ok... thats the most important thing, metal can be repaired/replaced but people can't....

p.s can I have the brakes as you said they weren't used and they would be in good condition...:)

Whilst ESP is very, very good, it is not THE hand of God. It can only do so much to minimise yaw and other dynamic movement in a car and it does have a response delay, however short, meaning that if an uncontrollable yaw/slide commences, all the electronic trickery in the world will not save you.

Cheers,

Macca

was the ESP active??

ESP was active but the car was tuned and had OTR and making 280 rwkw, (about 500hp).
It just over overpowered the wet road, as she tried to correct and get out of the situation she was in.

I'm glad to hear everyone is ok. Full credit to Holden for making such a safe car.
In regards to ESP, I wish more people would realise it's just another AID, it's not a miracle switch.
I took a V6 Calais on a skid pan with ESP on and it IS still possible to completely lose control of the car with a couple of erratic movements. It makes a huge difference but it is not something to be relied on to save your ass.

In a nutshell the driver could probably do with some advanced driving classes in the near future to assist with incidents such as this.

good to see no one injured.

Yep.
Same thing happened when ABS brakes came out. People automatically "assumed" they wouldn't run into the back of people anymore. Same with airbags, particularly with Toyota advertising showing nice soft fluffy pillows protecting the occupants, where people couldn't understand why they got broken noses, broken ribs and so forth...Most misconceptions are due to the advertising of these products.
The laws of physics still apply. An 1800 plus kg car gripping the road by four small patches of rubber still has some pretty major limitations.

Gets cut off when about to overtake, so instead of braking and staying in her lane she boots it. Sounds like it had disaster written all over it.

Gad she is safe though, and hopefully learns a valuable lesson. not throwing stones, have done plenty of 'learning mistakes' myself over the years.

From what I have been told ESP in HSV's is different to the standard Holden Settings.
Its Programed to kick in later and be less intrusive to the driver.

It Is possibe to get one in a slide but not for very long just as Macca said above.

This is the first G series falcon front end coversion i have seen. Looks pretty convincing :jester:

375 rwhp = approx 500 fwhp
