Looks bloody BRILLIANT Ken, especially with 356mm F & R rotors. These should keep the VE owners happy. Well done Harrop.

what size wheels/offsets would you need when going to the track running a full slick with front runners, will they fit over the old pursuit style steelie

Would you also recommend fitting braided lines?

I highly doubt it, the discs themselves are 356mm = 14" diameter.

I am going out on a limb here but ..... I reckon these would require 18" + rims.

At least that's what the brochure says:rofl::rofl:

Put it this way, the VT-VZ kit - Street Performer, I think, retails at $3950 with 343mm discs, so this is certainly a good buy.

has it been confirmed that these will fit behind the ssv 20" supersport rims at all?

Hmm I thought Ken was going to try to release this kit for under 4 grand?

Cheers,

I'll post this link for Ken and he might be able to compare it with the Harrop calipers, but these AP Racing Fronts dont fit by about 3-4mm When using the 20" Supersports. The stock 19" SSV rims fit without issue.

They will almost certainly not fit over the steel rims.

Would you also recommend fitting braided lines? Cheers, Andrew
You may get a slightly firmer feedback from braided lines, but unless you are doing some serious circuit work it is unlikely most drivers would feel any difference.

There were two rims that we could not get digital data or samples of ... I am unsure which two ... but we will be having samples test-fitted next week. We intend to have images on our web site of each model that has been confirmed to fit.

Not this kit ... as this kit has 2-piece rotors etc.:love::goodjob:
It is several features advanced over the old "Street Performers".

This is fantastic news Ken and team Harrop. We as performance shops are getting good horsepower gains from the L98 but standard brakes aren't up to it. I am sure these kits will fly out the door. Keep up the grouse work Harrop.:)

Is there any chance of a similar kit for VS's being closer to this price? :p

The current Monster kit that fits on a VS is almost $8K :(

In most cases, speculative market size & production volumes determine costs. As the demand for pre-VT2 product is now small, there is limited chance of producing a "lower price" VS Monster package ... but we still consider the VS product good value!

Do you have any performance data acquired during testing to give the average punter an idea of the difference between the standard brakes.

i.e 100-0 distances

How does the Harrop product compare say to the HSV VE equivalent,
? on a par or can out perform them.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying they aren't worth the price :)

It's just that the cheaper they are the sooner i can afford them!

Good question.
I've never upgraded the brakes on any of my cars but i'm looking to on the VE and this is the kind of thing that i'd like to know instead of people just saying "they are great".

Good question that. From having 3 type of brake set up on my VX the best I could say it
Stock harrop 4 piston HSV on the VX GTS with stock tyres: Pretty good and do the job fine for the odd race day and street.
Upgraded rotors and high temp pads but same calipers. Much better, consistent braking but semi slicks help
Brake package very similar to the VE upgraded ones mentioned in the thread: Face plant in windscreen good and easily override the grip on hot semi slicks.

Also could try the gforce pulling up and distance from 100 to 0 but so many variables between peoples cars, tyres, chosen brake pads, road surface etc etc people would be game to put results like that.
I have a small GForce meter that sits on my windscreen I use to get 0 to 100 and 100 to 0 times that I find fun and handy to help with my testing on mods and changes to the car. I can replicate conditions, tyres etc so useful to me

How much would a set of pads for these set you back?

macca33
21-01-2009, 12:29 PM
I would submit that these (indeed any) aftermarket big brakes would at least be equal to the oem type upon an initial brake to a stop - unless the pads are the type which need a little bit of heat in them to perform. With that being said, I can safely say that the second, third and following number of stops (after the initial one) will be much more efficient with these systems.

Not only are they constructed better, but they also have greater clamping power and larger surface areas to increase friction for braking.

How much larger than standard are the rotors?

Will the callipers be available in stealth black or would that be an owner upgrade option

I dare say that the oem rotors are around 300mm x 28mm. The Harrops are 356mm x 32mm - HUGE difference in heatsink and friction area there.

I believe red is the stock colour.

Are there any technical drawings of the Harrop Calipers available? Like AP drawings?
Got a little project that Im working on and they would be very handy.

Hey Ken
Are these brakes going to fit with the 20" Super sports wheels now ?

I have spoken to Damien at Harrop and there is now VE Harrop Performance brakes kits to suit the 20" Super Sports, of course available from Harrop or JHP :) www.jhp.com.au/holden_ve_performance_brake_kits.php
