so off to the dealer then or would some smaller mechanics have a scanner, but would it be a issue if I left it

Dare say it would need the tech2 to reset it, which I doubt most smaller mechanics would have. I don't think it would cause any issues leaving it on, but when the airbag light is on it means the bag(s) are disabled, so technically not street legal (disabling a safety device and all) and could land you in the shit (financially and injury wise) if you were to be in an accident.

A mates VT has the same problem, he's left it for ages and it doesn't seem to have had any other consequences, but I wouldn't advise it.

Tech2 will need to be hooked up. If the reading comes as an "open circuit" the clockspring will need replacing as it was possibly damaged due to someone playing around with the steering rack/wheel alignment. Also the seatbelt pretensioners wiring have been moved when a book, etc falls down the side of the seat.

Dont bother disconnecting the globe as it will not pass rego as the airbag light has to come on and go off when the ignition is turned on. After that the tech2 can clear the light. You can get the tech2 to clear the light without fixing the problem, but the light will come back up either straight away or when youre driving along the road. The beeping sound the car makes on startup is also known as the Vt national anthem.

rang the dealer today they charge $85 bucks just to hook it up & see whats wrong, then what ever it costs to fix whats wrong, a bloke put me onto a small mechanic in town who does it cheaper so I might go check him out.
the sister inlaw did get a seat belt replaced 12 months ago maybe thats all the problem is, heres hoping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The price just to diagnose it is a bit rough. Also ask a few auto electricians in your area, some of those guys have a Tech2 and you might get away with a free or cheaper diagnosis. An auto electrician diagnosed my problem for nothing then gave me a quote to get it fixed. Good luck with it.

Our VX SS started throwing up the airbag light a week or so after we purchased it. Good timing hey? Took it to an auto elec who charged me $50 to hook up his Tech 2 unit and then came back and said its an airbag fault. Then he charged me about $150 just to take apart the centre console and to locate the airbag sensor which he said may or may not be faulty. $424 for a new one from Holden spare parts.

Take it to Holden I say. I haven't taken mine there yet as we just can't afford to spend $500+ on this car at the moment.

I doubt its the clockspring. Take your steering wheel off and see if its broken?

had the same thing, turned out to be the clockspring. Good to see you got it fixed at the right price
