A couple of weeks ago after ¾ filling my tank, about 5 k’s up the road, the car spluttered a couple of times and then came good with no further issues. Did not really give it further thought.
A week later after ¾ filling again, same thing happened, about the same spot, but cleared and was all good again for a couple of tanks of fuel. Then coming home from work the other day, ½ tank of fuel, did a fairly hard break and turned into a tight corner and the car cutout, dropped her into Neutral while coasting and restarted and all good.
Time to have a look as we had to take a trip to Melbourne Sunday, found a loose battery terminal so thought problem most likely solved. So, next day off to Melbourne, purred like a kitten all the way down, had to do a trip to South Yarra, then St Kilda, Manor Lakes and back to Warandyte. Driving home and thinks to myself, yep, battery terminal, how well is this going….. wrong, get to Cowra (NSW bout 180k’s from home) this afternoon, take a quick pit stop, get back in and 100 meters u the road at a main intersection, she stops, cranks over no prob, but that’s all. So push back into a garage (thanks to a couple of young blokes) do the bleeding obvious things, check fuses, check for loose connections etc but could find nothing wrong and ¾ tank of fuel.
The misses panic’s and rings the NRMA while I am madly pulling fuses etc out for a visual, after re-seating all fuses etc, I tell her to try it, it started!! For 3 seconds only but it was enough for her to see a message “no fuel” it flashed up and went just a quick. So while waiting for the NRMA dude, I think back to the days of a VN I owned, it did a similar thing so, jump under the rear of the VY, give the fuel tank a couple of uppercuts and bingo!! Sits there and idles, revs and behaves nicely. Give old NRMA mate a call and tell him she’s going, he was dissapointed though as he is a Ford fan and wanted to bag out a broken Holden…
So drive off, and for about 5-6 k’s, it intermittently nearly stalled at any rev and speed but finally comes good for the rest of the trip home. Just like turning the ignition off.
There is no check engine light coming on
The 3 questions I have are
1) Sound like the fuel pump?
2) Is the Fuel sender part of the pump assembly?
3) Any idea of a price of sender/fuel pump? if indeed it is the issue.
Thanks in advance
Dave.
